This panel examines scenes of aesthetic-political contact between Latin America and other regions of the Global South during the 20th and 21st centuries. We are interested in considering texts where the circulation of bodies, objects, and ideas operates as a form of knowledge production that does not exclusively pass through traditional centers of power. Such contacts can be traced through displacement—physical or imaginary, by one's own will or that of others—between these regions, and which is reflected in cultural productions such as fiction and nonfiction narratives, poetry, film, photography, etc. Analyzing different historical and cultural contexts and drawing from distinct interpretive coordinates (post- or decolonial theories, cosmopolitanisms, new materialisms, ecocriticism, to name a few), this panel proposes the following questions as a starting point: How do these texts contest or reproduce orientalist and exoticist perspectives on the Other? What forms of solidarity or conflict (ideological, ethnic and racial, gender, environmental, etc.) do they articulate, and how do they correspond to their historical moment of production? What subjectivities, individual or collective, emerge in these spaces of contact? How do these texts engage with logics of globalization? Do they give rise new aesthetic-political assemblages emerge that help us interpret moments of crisis, both present and past? These and related questions are welcome to foster conversations about South-South cultural contacts and exchanges. Presentations can be submitted in Spanish, English, or Portuguese.

Este panel examina escenas de contacto estético-político entre Latinoamérica y otras regiones del sur global durante los siglos XX y XXI. Nos interesa pensar en textos donde la circulación de cuerpos, objetos e ideas opera como forma de producción de conocimientos que no pasa exclusivamente por los centros de poder tradicionales. Dichos contactos pueden trazarse a partir del desplazamiento, físico o imaginario, por voluntad propia o ajena, entre estas regiones, y que se plasma en producciones culturales como la narrativa de ficción y no ficción, la poesía, el cine y la fotografía. Analizando diferentes coyunturas históricas y culturales y partiendo de distintas coordenadas interpretativas (las teorías post- o des-coloniales, los cosmopolitismos, los nuevos materialismos y la ecocrítica, por nombrar algunas), este panel propone las siguientes preguntas como punto de inicio: ¿Cómo disputan o reproducen estos textos miradas orientalistas y exotistas sobre el Otro? ¿Qué formas de solidaridad o conflicto (ideológico, étnico y racial, de género, medioambiental, etc.) articulan, y cómo corresponden a su momento histórico de producción? ¿Qué subjetividades, individuales o colectivas, surgen en estos espacios de contacto? ¿Cómo dialogan en estos textos modelos de nación con las lógicas de la globalización? ¿Emergen, en estos, nuevos ensamblajes estético-políticos que nos ayuden a interpretar momentos de crisis, del presente y el pasado? Estas y otras preguntas afines son bienvenidas para entablar una conversación sobre los contactos e intercambios culturales sur-sur. Ponencias pueden ser en español, inglés o portugués.
