Whereas it is resolved by the General Assembly ... that an embargo be laid upon the exportation out of this colony by water, the following articles of provision, viz. wheat, rye, Indian corn, pork, beef, live cattle, peas, beans, butter, cheese, bread, flour, and every kind of meal (except necessary stores for vessels bound to sea ; ) and that such embargo continue and remain until the first day of June next ... I do hereby strictly prohibit and forbid all persons from transporting ... any of the aforesaid articles ... Given under my hand in the Council chamber in New-Haven, this 19th day of October ... 1775 -
