In the early modern period, numerous texts deal with professions by presenting the knowledge required in each case, detailing individual fields of activity, purpose, origin and prestige. The course of argumentation was humanistic, insofar as it mostly started from the human being. The ancient idea of the primacy of mental work over manual work was influential. This work illuminates how Spanish representations of knowledge, professions and outstanding professional representatives are shown. Mechanical arts and artes liberales are presented on the basis of individual professions and the higher faculties of medicine, theology and jurisprudence with their representatives follow. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. The author (with the support of colleagues) has subsequently revised the text further in an endeavour to refine the work stylistically.

Los capítulos que lo integran se centran no solo en los miembros del clero católico, sino también en los seguidores de corrientes religiosas como el recogimiento, el dejamiento, el alumbradismo y la devotio moderna. La figura del teólogo se aborda desde las perspectivas de los estudios literarios y culturales, la teología y la filosofía. Son objeto de atención la concepción que el teólogo tenía de sí mismo, su actitud, conocimiento, formación, influencias y actividades, que atestiguan los tratados, los textos ficcionales y la literatura religiosa del Siglo de Oro.     The 17 contributions in this volume pursue a positioning of the philologies, which - based on the 'Volksgeist' (popular spirit) of the 19th century and the cultural studies of the 20th century - must reposition themselves in the 21st century. The contributions address questions such as: What changes are occurring with increasing globalization? Are national literatures increasingly being absorbed into the so-called "world literature"? The authors come from the fields of Romance studies, German studies and English studies. They deal with topics of literary historiography, canonization, comparative literature, and also questions of the future. This book is a translation of an original German edition.     In the early modern period, numerous texts deal with professions by presenting the knowledge required in each case, detailing individual fields of activity, purpose, origin and prestige. The course of argumentation was humanistic, insofar as it mostly started from the human being. The ancient idea of the primacy of mental work over manual work was influential. This work illuminates how Spanish representations of knowledge, professions and outstanding professional representatives are shown. Mechanical arts and artes liberales are presented on the basis of individual professions and the higher faculties of medicine, theology and jurisprudence with their representatives follow. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. The author (with the support of colleagues) has subsequently revised the text further in an endeavour to refine the work stylistically
