    Die Studie stellt den Abschlussbericht eines Projekts zur Förderung der Selbsthilfe im Sinne des § 20h SGB XI im ländlichen Raum in den Jahren 2016 bis 2019 in der Region Lausitz/Kreis Görlitz dar, finanziert von der AOK PLUS in Sachsen und Thüringen. Das Projekt wurde durchgeführt von der KISS, getragen von „Soziales Netzwerk Lausitz“ in Weißwasser. Die Evaluation bediente sich Methoden der qualitativen Sozialforschung bzw. der Ethnographie und diskutiert die Ergebnisse politisch auf der gewährleistungsstaatlichen Grundlage der Idee der Sozialraumbildung im Kontext der rechtlichen Vorgaben kommunaler Daseinsvorsorge, hier im prekärem ländlichen Raum, dabei die Kooperationsfragen mit den Aufgaben der Sozialversicherung betonend. This study contains the final evaluation of the project ‘promoting self-help activity in a rural area’, which was conducted in 2016–2019 in the region of Lausitz/public administrative region of Görlitz and was financed by AOK PLUS in Saxony and Thuringia. The regional agency promoting health-related self-help groups according to § 20h of the German Social Code, Book V is incorporated into the institution ‘Soziales Netzwerk Lausitz’ in Weißwasser. The evaluation is organised according to methods of qualitative social research and ethnography. The results of the project are discussed politically in the light of the legal framework within which municipal social services operate in German constitutional law in relation to the role of the public administration body in the region and the tasks of social services.

Der 2017 verstorbene Tankred Dorst gehört zu den wichtigsten Dramatikern der Nachkriegsliteratur. Die Spannweite des Dramatikers reicht von revuehaften Stücken über Politisches und autobiographisch imprägnierte Stücke bis zu albtraumhaften Grotesken und Stoffen aus der mittelalterlichen Literatur. Mit Beiträgen von Norbert Abels, Ingrid Bennewitz, Albert Gier, Iris Hermann, Ernst August Klötzke, Friedhelm Marx, Oswald Panagl, Frank Piontek, Siegrid Schmidt, Wulf Segebrecht. The book contains the lectures of a Tankred- Dorst-colloquium that took place in 2018 at the University of Bamberg in cooperation with the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. Tankred Dorst, who died in 2017, is one of the most important dramatists of post-war literature. The playwrights work ranges from revue-like plays, political and autobiographically inspired plays to nightmarish grotesques and medieval adaptations. With contributions by Norbert Abels, Ingrid Bennewitz, Albert Gier, Iris Hermann, Ernst August Klötzke, Friedhelm Marx, Oswald Panagl, Frank Piontek, Siegrid Schmidt, Wulf Segebrecht.

    "In the past 30 years, discourses on queerness and the central political issues of LGBT life that originate in the United States-- like same-sex marriage-- have been exported and used to identify the presence of queer community in other parts of the world. QUEER KOREA brings together historical, ethnographic, and literary essays that establish a queer historiography of Korea. Editor Todd Henry asserts that Western forms of queerness, and the reading practices used to identify queerness in the American academy, are insufficient to describe the range of queer life on the Korean peninsula. He argues that particular developments in Korean modernity-- including its histories of colonialism, nationalism, and authoritarianism from the turn of the century to the Cold War-- have informed the language and politics of queerness in Korea and the Korean diaspora. In addition to compiling the first volume focused on queerness in Korea, including work from the South Korean academy, this volume asserts that placing queerness at the center of Korean studies, rather than at the margins, produces new analytic possibilities for the field. The chapters are divided into three parts. The chapters in Part I, "Unruly Subjects and Colonial Modernity," trace the origins of queer subjectivity in modern Korea through political struggles against Japanese colonial rule, and anti-communist/anti-capitalist conflict during the Korean War. In one chapter John Treat reads scenes of migration between a colonized satellite city in Korea to the center of Japanese imperialism in Tokyo in modernist writer Yi Sang's short story "Wings." Drawing on José Esteban Muñoz's concepts of utopia and disidentification, Treat argues that Yi's characters and prose both move between Japanese colonial and Korean nationalist forms of power in ways that assert the queerness of the colonial subject. Part II, "Gender, Kinship, and Nation Under Cold War," includes chapters that link geopolitical shifts during the Cold War to emergent forms of gender and sexual variance in Korean popular culture. Kim Chung-kang's essay looks at how the trope of male cross-dressing in South Korean B-movies developed as a critical response to a resurgence of family-centered, patriarchal politics under Park Chung Hee's authoritarian government. She argues that this form of non-binary representation constituted critical refusal of hegemonic politics in a moment when Korea's mass culture was highly regulated. Hegels Phänomenologie des Geistes stellt bis heute den umfassendsten Versuch dar, einen für die Moderne gültigen Begriff der Erfahrung zu begründen. Unter dem Stichwort ›Narben des Geistes‹ greift die Untersuchung Hegels Ansatz auf, um ihn zunächst mit literarischen Texten von Sophokles, Diderot und Goethe und in einem zweiten Schritt mit alternativen philosophischen Modellen von Benjamin bis zu Foucault zu konfrontieren. Den Abschluss bildet die Frage nach Erfahrungsbegriffen vor (Montaigne), parallel zu (Hölderlin) und nach Hegels Zeit (Nietzsche). Das Ziel der Untersuchung besteht in einer Kritik des Hegelschen Erfahrungsbegriffs im Blick auf den ästhetischen Diskurs der Moderne.

This Open Access book, Crisis and Legitimacy in Atlantic American Narratives of Piracy: 1678-1865, examines literary and visual representations of piracy beginning with A.O. Exquemelin’s 1678 Buccaneers of America and ending at the onset of the US-American Civil War. Examining both canonical and understudied texts—from Puritan sermons, James Fenimore Cooper’s The Red Rover, and Herman Melville’s “Benito Cereno” to the popular cross-dressing female pirate novelette Fanny Campbell, and satirical decorated Union envelopes, this book argues that piracy acted as a trope to negotiate ideas of legitimacy in the contexts of U.S. colonialism, nationalism, and expansionism. The readings demonstrate how pirates were invoked in transatlantic literary production at times when dominant conceptions of legitimacy, built upon categorizations of race, class, and gender, had come into crisis. As popular and mobile maritime outlaw figures, it is suggested, pirates asked questions about might and right at critical moments of Atlantic history.

Taking its point of departure in the commonplace claim that the Romantics invented childhood, the book traces that engagement across national boundaries, in the visual arts, in works of educational theory and natural philosophy, and in both fiction and non-fiction written for children. Essays authored by scholars from a range of national and disciplinary backgrounds reveal how Romantic-period representations of and for children constitute sites of complex discursive interaction, where ostensibly unrelated areas of enquiry are brought together through common tropes and topoi associated with infancy. Broadly new-historicist in approach, but drawing also on influential theoretical descriptions of genre, discipline, mediation, cultural exchange, and comparative methodologies, the collection also seeks to rethink the idea of a clear-cut dichotomy between Enlightenment and Romantic conceptions of infancy.

This book not only discloses and examines different functions and concepts of authorship in fiction and theory from the 1950s and 1960s to the present but it also reveals, at least implicitly, a trajectory of some of the modes and functions of the novel as a genre in the last few decades. It argues that the explicit terms of much of the theoretical and philosophical debate surrounding the concept of authorship in the moment of High Theory in the 1980s had already been engaged, albeit often more implicitly, in literary fictions by writers themselves. This book examines the fortunes of the authorship debate and the conceptualisations and functions of authorship before, during, and after the Death of the Author came to prominence as one of the key foci for the moment of High Theory in the 1980s.

This book is a timely study of young women’s life writing as a form of human rights activism. It focuses on six young women who suffered human rights violations when they were girls and have gone on to become activists through life writing: Malala Yousafzai, Hyeonseo Lee, Yeonmi Park, Bana Alabed, Nujeen Mustafa, and Nadia Murad. Their ongoing life-writing projects diverge to some extent, but all share several notable features: they claim a testimonial collective voice, they deploy rights discourse, they excite humanitarian emotions, they link up their context-bound plight with bigger social justice causes, and they use English as their vehicle of self-expression and self-construction. This strategic use of English is of vital importance, as it has brought them together as icons in the public sphere within the last six years. New Forms of Self-Narration is the first ever attempt to explore all these activists’ life-writing texts side by side, encompassing both the written and the audiovisual material, online and offline, and taking all texts as belonging to a unique, single, though multifaceted, project.
