Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, fr. 12576 (T), but is moderately interventionist in its attempt to approximate more closely to the ipsissima verba of Chrétien; the critical text is accompanied by complete variants from the other manuscripts. The critical apparatus includes full descriptions of all the manuscripts of "Perceval", an examination of the manuscript transmission of the text, and of the language of the scribe of T and of Chrétien; the notes contain a running commentary on the manuscript tradition and a justification of every emendation made to the text of T. The edition concludes with a full glossary

This collection of essays deals with the rise and development of early Christian poetry, discussing its techniques and its theoretical foundation. The individual papers concern specimina of Hebrew, Syriac, Greek and Latin poetry and study the various and partly conflicting traditions from which it originated. The biblical examples, e.g. of the Psalms, held great authority, but on the other hand it was impossible to break away from the models of classical Greco-Roman poetry, although these were deemed dangerous because of the pagan content and excessive cult of literary art. The book shows how the problems involved were solved in different ways, which justified the use of pagan literary accomplishments for singing the praises of the Lord

The author uses an extensive study of the five Greek novels preserved by tradition since Roman times (Chariton, Chaireas and Callirhoe , Longus, Daphnis and Chloe , Xenophon of Ephesus, Ephesiaca , Achilles Tatius, Leucippe and Clitophon , Heliodorus, Ethiopica ) to show how the novel form, from its origins, has been based upon the repetition of commonplaces, τόποι, which allows an interplay with the reader. The commonest of these commonplaces, love-Eros, provides the plot of the five novels, in an order which is itself topical: meeting and love at first sight, wounds of love and lovesickness, lovers separated, lovers put to the test by the sea and by pirates, lovers reunited. The heroes of Greek novels, always young, good-looking and well-born (even if their identities are left unclear), allow for easy reader identification. From Xenophon of Ephesus (the most primitive form of the novel) to the Ethiopica (a true work of art), the Greek novel had already explored all the main narrative possibilities of the genre

    Entre le début du treizième siècle et la fin du quinzième, on a pu recenser pour le moins dix traductions françaises de la "Consolatio philosophiae" de Boèce. De ces traductions, deux seulement ont été publiées à ce jour. La publication de la présente édition offre donc un certain intérêt en soi, mais en plus, elle s'inscrit dans un vaste projet d'études portant sur des questions linguistiques, littéraires et culturelles. La présente édition est basée sur un manuscrit de Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, fr. 1096. Le texte originale date de la décennie 1320-1330 et a éte composé au sud da la Lorraine. C'est une traduction fidèle à sa source latine, avec peu d'ommissions ou d'additions. Son influence s'est exercée de façon plutôt indirecte: elle a servi de base partielle à deux traductions subséquentes au moins. - Etant donné l'importance du vocabulaire philosophique et dialectal, l'édition est dotée de deux glossaires, l'un basé sur l'édition, et l'autre repérant les vocables des Variantes. This is a critical edition of one of the many medieval French translations of Boethius' "Consolatio philosophiae". The base manuscript is Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, fr. 1096. The original text dates from ca. 1330 and was composed in the south of Lorraine. The Introduction examines the original dialect and that of each manuscript as well as some of the translation techniques adopted. It is a quite clear and accurate translation, with few omissions or additions. It was consulted by at least two subsequent translators of the "Consolatio". The philosophical and dialectal vocabulary presents a certain interest. The edition includes two glossaries, one relating to the edited text, the other to the vocabulary of the variants (three other manuscripts).

    This is the first truely critical edition of Chrétien de Troyes's "Perceval" and will replace the often inaccurate text of Hilka (1932). This new edition is based on ms. Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, fr. 12576 (T), but is moderately interventionist in its attempt to approximate more closely to the ipsissima verba of Chrétien; the critical text is accompanied by complete variants from the other manuscripts. The critical apparatus includes full descriptions of all the manuscripts of "Perceval", an examination of the manuscript transmission of the text, and of the language of the scribe of T and of Chrétien; the notes contain a running commentary on the manuscript tradition and a justification of every emendation made to the text of T. The edition concludes with a full glossary.
