La grande diversité des délimitations, dénominations, leçons, interprétations, que l'on ne peut en aucune manière considérer comme une progressive venue au jour de la véritable forme d'un texte, engage à contester l'économie de la textualité, à faire voir comment la série des éditions et des commentaires produit, dans un mouvement de répétitions, ce qu'elle représente comme sa propre origine, et institue ains ce qu'elle désigne comme un texte et un auteur This study shows how four manuscript pages happened to become through the ages what is nowadays most usually known as the "Pari de Pascal" ("Pascal's wager"), one of the famous pieces of the so called "Pensées de Pascal". A critical analysis of publication editing procedures and commentary circulation demonstrates that they were established and perpetuated as a text by a tradition through many operations of transcription which greatly reduce their supposed authenticity. As we explore the wide range of delimitations, denominations, philological lectures, and interpretations, which these pages underwent and which can in no way be considered as a progressive bringing to light of the text true form, we are led to contest the economy of textuality, and to show how the series of publications and commentaries produces, in a process of repetitions, the very object that it depicts as its own origin, and how this series constructs and institutes what it represents as a text and an author

    La question que je pose dans ce travail est de savoir si l'on doit rendre compte de la présentation romanesque de la "vie intérieure" dans les termes fournis par une tradition qui prône la dissociation conceptuelle des "événements mentaux" des événements du monde extérieur. L'oeuvre de Conrad met au contraire en oeuvre un critère qui relie et oppose les descriptions de soi du héros et les descriptions objectives de sa conduite de manière à corriger la "perspective subjective" de l'argent non pas à la lumière du comportement visible mais d'après l'articulation de noeuds et de liens entre son vocabulaire moral et ses sources refoulées. Les termes initiaux dans lesquels le personnage vit ses dilemmes et ses allégeances conflictuelles peuvent se modifier aux yeux du lecteur. La vraissemblance romanesque gît désormais dans la possibilité de transformer, au cours de l'intrigue, le sens initial des termes dont on dispose pour juger de la qualité de l'action et de la personne. Il se dégage ainsi un concept de tragique moderne, où la chute du héros est montrée comme le produit d'une défaillance intérieure conçue comme l'incohérence entre plusieurs idéaux qui commandent allégeance : dépasser cette incohérence sans nier sa réalité dramatique et vécue, c'est la fonction de la fiction dans la recherche rationnelle d'un bien architectonique The present work asls the question wether we should comprehend the novel's presentation of inner life in the terms provided by a philosophical traditions whose basis is the conceptual dissociation of "mental events" from the events of the external world. I studied Conrad's novel Lord Jim, which, instead of following the traditional criteria of poetic plausibility, associating causally character and action in a univocal manner, forges a new criterion which connects the agent's practical perspective to her/his visible behaviour, by retrieving and articulating the ties between the moral vocabulary that underlies this perspective and its hidden moral sources. The initial terms which the character in the novel comes to grips with moral dilemmas and conflictual loyalities can be modified, throughout the experience of reading. The novel' specific criterion of vraisemblance lies in the possibility to transform, through the unfolding of the plot, the initial meaning of the moral concepts which enter in the assessment of character and action

    Tous les éléments, textuels et visuels, de DDD de Paul Valéry participent à une mise en scène de l'instabilité, déjouant les attentes du lecteur. Pour ce faire Valéry fait usage d'une rhétorique, souvent classique, qui sait s'adjoindre les ressources du figural. Confronté à leurs effets, le lecteur doit accepter la déroute comme principe de lecture. Cet effet d'égarement est renforcé par une matière textuelle et visuelle dynamique. DDD, échappant à la clôture et à l'inertie, exige une perpétuelle circulation du regard. Des temporalités coexistent. La capacité de transformation de DDD suscite une interrogation sur la ligne mimique, en relation avec la "formule pathique" warburgienne. Altérant la figure humaine, la mimique entraîne une réflexion sur l'informe, dont Degas et Valéry jouent selon les moyens de leur art Degas, Danse, Dessin by Paul Valéry can't fail to surprise the reader : all the elemnts, both textual and visual, actually take part in a production of instability. That is why everything works towards presenting a text which is very far from the most conventional formal and hermeneutic expectations. Valéry is writing here for the reader to choose his own rhythm, even if i/he is subtly led according to the author's design. The taste of polymorphism -structural, narrative but also using the text-picture relations- is quite effective. to rich is aim, Valéry sets up a singular rhetoric, knowing how to take advantage of the material means of the book, confirming its suspensive function. The ressources of the figural, bursting in the order of the discourse, have to be associated with the rhetorical means. Between rhetoric and figural, the reader has to accept to be disconcerted. Moreover, some formal flexibility - structural, thematic and metaphorical - holds one's attention : the animal reference, for instance, conveys the energy of the movement, embodied by the figure of a dancer. DDD favours a visual reading, like a polyptych. The look has to circulate, letting different coexisting temporalities, which give to the form a real power of transformation. The latter conveys a questionning about the virtues of gesture. From the "gesture line" of Degas as the "movement of life found in the Greeks time" to the pathic formula, after the warburgian terminology, a relation of closeness has to be considered. Distorting the human figure, the gesture leads to a reflexion on the undefined, interval between two forms, that Degas and Valéry use according to the means of their art

    Les manuscrits du groupe Farrar – appelés aussi famille 13 – comptent parmi les témoins de premier ordre du Nouveau Testament grec. Pour l’Evangile de Marc, onze manuscrits – tous copiés en écriture minuscule – sont actuellement reconnus : neuf tétraévengiles, un lectionnaire et un Nouveau Testament complet. De par leurs caractéristiques textuelles spécifiques ils appartiennent au type de texte dit « césareen ». La première partie de ce travail porte sur la mise en perspective des quatre premiers manuscrits de ce groupe, dans des éditions imprimées : Nouveau Testament grec, répertoires catalographiques, de 1670 à la fin du dix-neuvième siècle. Cette histoire des éditions souligne le rôle essentiel joué par ces quatre témoins dans l’histoire de la critique textuelle néotestamentaire. L’élaboration d’un nouveau stemma pour le groupe Farrar dans l’Evangile de Marc prend appui sur l’édition intégrale du texte publié ici pour la première fois. L’ensemble de la collation, basée sur l’édition de Legg de 1935, représente 4631 lieux variants. L’édition de ce texte conduit à une enquête minutieuse de critique verbale, de critique interne et de critique externe. Elle montre que l’archétype du groupe, nommé x, s’est divisé en trois branches : a, qui regroupe cinq manuscrits dont un fortement contaminé par le texte byzantin ; c, qui rassemble trois manuscrits, et b, qui ne compte que deux descendants ; l’un de ceux-ci est le témoin le plus proche de l’archétype. L’étude s’attache à définir, pour chacun des groupes et pour l’archétype x, des ensembles de cariantes caractéristiques. L’enquête se termine par une bibliographie de 873 notices représentant 382 auteurs Manuscripts of the Farrar Group – also called Family 13 – are first class witnesses of the Greek New Testament. Concerning Mark’s Gospel, eleven manuscripts – all copied in minuscule writing – are officially accepted: nine contain the four Gospels, one is a lectionary, the last one a complete New Testament. Because of their textual peculiar readings, they both belong to the so-called text-type “caesarean”. The first part of the thesis gives a wide outlook on the four first manuscripts of this group in the printed editions of Greek New Testament and manuscript catalogues, from 1670 to the end of the 19th century. The history of these editions points out the leading role of theses codices in the New Testament textual criticism. The edition of the text of the Ferrar manuscripts for the Gospel of Mark is given here for the very first time. The collations of the manuscripts, based on the Legg edition (1935), represent 4631 readings. The stemma codicum takes place on these collations. All kinds of textual criticism are meticulously detailed on the survey as internal and external evidence. It states that the archetype of the group, called x, is divided into three branches: a, which consists in five manuscripts whom one is strongly byzantine contaminated; c, which represents three manuscripts and b, which only has two manuscripts. One manuscript of this b-group certainly is the nearest to the archetype of Family 13. The study finally points out some peculiar reading for all these branches. The survey makes an end with a bibliography composed by 873 files divides in 382 authors

    Comme son titre l'indique, ce travail porte sur l'ironie et l'absurde dans le récit bref de Augusto Monterroso, Juan José Arreola et Julio Cortázar. Le corpus sur lequel nous nous sommes basés se compose de « La Oveja negra y demás fábulas » de Monterroso, « Bestiario » de Arreola (précisément les deux parties intitulées "Prosodia" et "Cantos de mal dolor") et « Historias de cronopios y de famas » de Cortázar. Cette étude contient trois parties : la première porte sur les formes brèves (comme la greguería et le poème en prose) et le récit bref hispano-américain (les précurseurs et les caractéristiques). La deuxième commence par la définition de l'ironie, suivie d'une analyse de ce concept dans le récit bref de chacun des trois auteurs cités plus haut.     Ces recherches déploient leurs analyses et arguments en six sections, car elles estiment que le topos de l’amour pur n’est pas réductible à une forme. A la première section est confiée la tâche de cerner la notion d’amour pur et d’établir son échelle, ensuite de marquer le mouvement d’excédence vers l’hyperbolique, et à nouveau d’en dresser la gradation. La deuxième section, bien que consacrée à la seule figure de Majnün, accueille quasiment tous les thèmes que la première section a pu mettre en relief. Dans la troisième section, une deuxième grande figure fait son apparition, celle de Hallâj dont la sentence d’identification est comparée à celle du poète arabe. La quatrième lui est entièrement consacrée suite à un déplacement thématique. C’est à l’amour de l’ennemi que l’on confie à présent la diction de ce qui doit se manifester. La cinquième section porte l’amour pur hyperbolique aux extrêmes, on pourra même dire à un si haut point qu’il ne peut que s’exténuer dans sa propre fulgurance. Le thème de l’amour damné a trouvé en l’Iblîs de Hallâj son champion. L’ultime section traite de l’amour pur comme substitution. Elle change de méthode pour donner la parole à la narration de l’évènement. Son choix est fixé sur l’œuvre romanesque de Yachar Kemal dont la tonalité rejoint les couches les plus profondes du peuple et de l’âme où se lignent l’angoisse extrême et la disponibilité à autrui pour produire une figure messianique These researches’ analysis and evidences are developed in six sections, for they suppose that the topos of love cannot be reduced to a form. The first section’s role is to identify the notion of pure love and to establish his scale, then to mark the movement of excess toward the hyperbolic, until, finally, its gradation is determined again. The second section, though dedicated to the sole figure of Majnûn, takes in practically all the themes that were revealed in the first section. In the third section appears a second great figure, that of Hallâj, whose sentence of identification is compared to the Arab poet’s. The fourth is entirely dedicated to him, according to a thematic shift. The diction of what should manifest itself is imparted to the love of the enemy. The fifth section carries the pure hyperbolic love to extremes; one might even say to such a high point that it can only be extenuated in its own fulgurance. The them of damned love has found in Hallâj’s Iblîs its champion. The ultimate section treats of pure love as substitution. It changes methods, allowing the narration of the event to take over. Its choice was fixed on Yachar Kemal’s novels. The author’s tonality meets the deepest layers of the people and the soul where extreme anguish and availability to others are allied in order to produce a messianic figure

    Comme son titre l'indique, ce travail porte sur l'ironie et l'absurde dans le récit bref de Augusto Monterroso, Juan José Arreola et Julio Cortázar. Le corpus sur lequel nous nous sommes basés se compose de « La Oveja negra y demás fábulas » de Monterroso, « Bestiario » de Arreola (précisément les deux parties intitulées "Prosodia" et "Cantos de mal dolor") et « Historias de cronopios y de famas » de Cortázar. Cette étude contient trois parties : la première porte sur les formes brèves (comme la greguería et le poème en prose) et le récit bref hispano-américain (les précurseurs et les caractéristiques). La deuxième commence par la définition de l'ironie, suivie d'une analyse de ce concept dans le récit bref de chacun des trois auteurs cités plus haut.
