    Abstract ; En las primeras dos décadas del siglo XXI, los estudios en torno al género y la sexualidad han proliferado de manera notable en toda América Latina. En el caso específico de México, grandes aportes han surgido en los últimos quince años y en diversas disciplinas con respecto al estudio de la sexualidad, la orientación sexual, la elección de género y las políticas sexuales con respecto a una multiplicidad de comportamientos que se salen de la norma o la rutina y lo politicamente correcto. Para este número especial de iMex. Mexico Interdisciplinario / Interdisciplinary Mexico buscamos artículos críticos que analicen diversas representaciones de género y sexualidad en obras literarias publicadas en México a partir del año 2000. Nos interesan las contribuciones que aborden la literatura mexicana más reciente con un sólido marco teórico, interdisciplinario. De particular interés serán los trabajos que se centren en la representación del feminismo y la masculinidad, la bisexualidad, la transexualidad, el lesbianismo, el sexismo, la discriminación de género, las sexualidades alternativas y los comportamientos sexuales disidentes. Se puede abordar un conjunto de obras literarias o una sola obra (de cualquier género), pero en ambos casos será imprescindible la contextualización de dichas obras dentro del panorama de la literatura mexicana actual, tomando en cuenta una serie de aportes críticos y teóricos producidos dentro y fuera de México.

Specifically, Estrada examines recent fictionalizations of Malinche, Hernán Cortés's indigenous translator during the Conquest of Mexico; Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the famous baroque intellectual of New Spain; Leona Vicario, a supporter of the Mexican War of Independence; the soldaderas (women soldiers) of the Mexican Revolution, popularly known as Adelitas; and Frida Kahlo, the tormented painter of the twentieth century. Long associated with gendered archetypes and symbols, these women have achieved mythical status in Mexican culture and continue to play a complex role in Mexican literature. Focusing on contemporary novels, plays, and chronicles, Estrada interrogates how and why authors repeatedly recreate the lives of these historical women from contemporary perspectives, often generating hybrid narratives that fuse history, memory, and fiction. In so doing, he reveals the innovative and, sometimes, troublesome ways in which authors can challenge or perpetuate gendered conventions of writing women's lives. Consequently, this study highlights not only the central place of historical women in contemporary Mexican culture, but also the malleability of cultural memory, the role of affect in commercializing iconic figures, and the persistence of gender norms and violence in Mexico"-- INTRODUCTION: Iconic Mexican Women at the Threshold of a New Century -- CHAPTER I.     "In Troubled Memories, Oswaldo Estrada traces the literary representations of several iconic Mexican women in the midst of neoliberalism, gender debates, and the widespread commodification of cultural memory. Specifically, Estrada examines recent fictionalizations of Malinche, Hernán Cortés's indigenous translator during the Conquest of Mexico; Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the famous baroque intellectual of New Spain; Leona Vicario, a supporter of the Mexican War of Independence; the soldaderas (women soldiers) of the Mexican Revolution, popularly known as Adelitas; and Frida Kahlo, the tormented painter of the twentieth century. Long associated with gendered archetypes and symbols, these women have achieved mythical status in Mexican culture and continue to play a complex role in Mexican literature. Focusing on contemporary novels, plays, and chronicles, Estrada interrogates how and why authors repeatedly recreate the lives of these historical women from contemporary perspectives, often generating hybrid narratives that fuse history, memory, and fiction. In so doing, he reveals the innovative and, sometimes, troublesome ways in which authors can challenge or perpetuate gendered conventions of writing women's lives. Consequently, this study highlights not only the central place of historical women in contemporary Mexican culture, but also the malleability of cultural memory, the role of affect in commercializing iconic figures, and the persistence of gender norms and violence in Mexico"...     La antología de cuentos iberoamericanos McOndo, editada por los chilenos Sergio Gómez y Alberto Fuguet, en 1996, y el "Manifiesto del Crack," producido ese mismo año por un grupo de escritores mexicanos -Ricardo Chávez Castañeda, Ignacio Padilla, Pedro Ángel Palou, Jorge Volpi y Eloy Urroz- dejaron una huella significativa en la producción literaria latinoamericana de fines del siglo XX y contribuyeron decisivamente a lineamientos estéticos y editoriales en el campo cultural. McCrack: McOndo, el Crack y los destinos de la literatura latinoamericana estudia ambos fenómenos en conjunto y reúnetanto a críticos especialistas en el tema como a escritores participantes de estos agrupamientos literarios (Edmundo Paz Soldán para McOndo, Pedro Ángel Palou para el Crack), y otros escritores que, a pesar de no pertenecer a estos grupos, como Naief Yehya y Cristina Rivera Garza, son contemporáneos de aquellos y participaron en el mismo campo literario de manera influyente. El objetivo de los autores es reflexionar de manera crítica sobre lo que ha quedado de estas intervenciones literarias -diversas estéticas, poéticas, discusiones y debates, amén de la evidencia literaria concreta presente en cuentos y novelas- y cómo han sido estudiadas. Dado que en los últimos veinte años la llamada "nueva" literatura latinoamericana ha adquirido un renovado vigor y se ha sumado al debate sobre el significado y alcance de las literaturas mundiales, este volumen aspira a tomarle el pulso a las dinámicas actuales de la literatura latinoamericana, prestando especial atención a las redes tejidas en torno a las literaturas globales, al establecimiento de conexiones transatlánticas y sus correspondientes intercambios, a las migraciones culturales y a las nuevas formas de comunicación y formación de identidades

There are in incurable physical and soul diseases, impossible to trace. Childhood traumas, family conflicts that mark us forever. Ailments of the body and mind. Illnesses of a certain age. The problem of being different and leaving the patterns of normality. Surgical procedures, forced treatments. Birth defects. Amputations. And also deterioration, wear, disorders and singularities that do not fit easily in the same label. This volume does not lack love sickness with its flaws and open wounds. Nor are there any missing prostheses, real or metaphorical, with which some of us learn to face life. If emigrating always produces some kind of injury, these twenty stories show not only a varied set of ailments and ills recreated by a group of Latin American immigrants that oscillate between belonging and uprooting in the United States, but also the capacity of literature to portray symbolic violence, long-lasting trauma, non-healing wounds.
