Das Verstehen medizinischer Fachtermini oder des literarischen Erbes in den neuen Philologien, die Fähigkeit des exakten Formulierens und genauen Lesens, die Erweiterung des Kanons durch viele - noch unedierte - neulateinische Texte und die Stärkung des nationalen Selbstbewusstseins durch die Wiederbelebung der alten Sprachen im Bildungssystem - dies sind nur einige Themen, die in 23 Beiträgen als Zweifel, Erwartungen oder Hoffnungen an die Klassische Philologie herangetragen werden. Aus einem Studientag zu den sogenannten Kleinen Fächern entstanden, vereint der Band Perspektiven aus außeruniversitären Arbeitsbereichen, Nachbarfächern und Instituten für Klassische Philologie aus 8 europäischen Ländern.
