4 pages, talk at the International Nuclear Physics Conference (INPC 2013) ; International audience ; We investigate the properties of the QCD matter across the deconfinement phase transition. In the scope of the parton-hadron string dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, we study the strongly interacting matter in equilibrium as well as the out-of equilibrium dynamics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We present here in particular the results on the electromagnetic radiation, i.e. photon and dilepton production, in relativistic heavy-ion collisions and the relevant correlator in equilibrium, i.e. the electric conductivity. By comparing our calculations for the heavy-ion collisions to the available data, we determine the relative importance of the various production sources and address the possible origin of the observed strong elliptic flow $v_2$ of direct photons.

4 pages, 5 figures, International Conference on Strangeness in Quark Matter 2013 (SQM 2013) ; International audience ; Within the aim of a dynamical study of on- and off-shell heavy quarks Q in the quark gluon plasma (QGP) - as produced in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions - we study the heavy quark collisional scattering on partons of the QGP. The elastic cross sections $\sigma_{q,g-Q}$ are evaluated for perturbative partons (massless on-shell particles) and for dynamical quasi-particles (massive off-shell particles as described by the dynamical quasi-particles model "DQPM") using the leading order Born diagrams. We demonstrate that the finite width of the quasi-particles in the DQPM has little influence on the cross sections $\sigma_{q,g-Q}$ except close to thresholds. We, furthermore, calculate the heavy quark relaxation time as a function of temperature T within the different approaches using these cross sections.

Proceeding of the talk given at SQM2013 in Birmingham, based on arXiv:1305.7180 [hep-ph] ; We calculate the shear $\eta(T)$ and bulk viscosities $\zeta(T)$ as well as the electric conductivity $\sigma_e(T)$ and heat conductivity $\kappa(T)$ within the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model for 3 flavors as a function of temperature as well as the entropy density $s(T)$, pressure $P(T)$ and speed of sound squared $c_s^2(T)$. We compare the results with other models such as the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model and the dynamical quasiparticle model (DQPM) and confront these results with lattice QCD data whenever available. We find the NJL model to have a limited predictive power for the thermodynamic variables and various transport coefficients above the critical temperature whereas the PNJL model and DQPM show acceptable results for the quantities of interest.

International audience ; The potential energy of heavy nuclei has been calculated in the quasimolecular shape path from a generalized liquid drop model including the proximity energy, the charge and mass asymmetries and the microscopic corrections. The potential barriers are multiple-humped. The second maximum is the saddle-point. It corresponds to the transition from compact one-body shapes with a deep neck to two touching ellipsoids. The scission point lies at the end of an energy plateau well below the saddle-point and where the effects of the nuclear attractive forces between two separated fragments vanish. The energy on this plateau is the sum of the kinetic and excitation energies of the fragments. The shell and pairing corrections play an essential role to select the most probable fission path. The potential barrier heights agree with the experimental data and the theoretical half-lives follow the trend of the experimental values. A third peak and a shallow third minimum appear in asymmetric decay paths when one fragment is close to a double magic quasi-spherical nucleus, while the smaller one changes from oblate to prolate shapes.

6 pages, 7 figures, Proceedings of the STARS2013 and SMFNS2013 conferences, 4-10 May 2013, Havana/Varadero, Cuba ; The dynamics of partons and hadrons in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions is analyzed within the novel Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach, which is based on a dynamical quasiparticle model for the partonic phase (DQPM) including a dynamical hadronization scheme. The PHSD approach is applied to nucleus-nucleus collisions from low SPS to LHC energies. The traces of partonic interactions are found in particular in the elliptic flow of hadrons and in their transverse mass spectra. We investigate also the equilibrium properties of strongly-interacting infinite parton-hadron matter characterized by transport coefficients such as shear and bulk viscosities and the electric conductivity in comparison to lattice QCD results.

International audience ; Over the last two decades, groundwater systems and surface water bodies are being more and more considered as a same entity which constitutes a single resource within the hydrologic system; understanding groundwater surface water (GW–SW) interactions is necessary to effectively manage the water resources. Concepts, methods of analysis and classifications of these hydrodynamic interactions have thus been developed, mostly in case of porous aquifer. Today, GW–SW interactions are still often poorly understood in many watersheds, particularly in the case of complex aquifers like karst aquifers. This study focuses on the influence of groundwater on the genesis and propagation of surface floods in the case of a highly karstified watershed. GW–SW hydrodynamic interactions are analysed (i) at a local scale focussing on hydrodynamic interactions between the karst aquifer in the vicinity of the river and the river, and (ii) at a larger scale focussing on hydrodynamic interactions between a karst spring and sinkholes in the riverbed. Hydrodynamic time series are described using the karst watershed of the Coulazou River (western Montpellier, France) as a case study. Results are used to adapt GW–SW classifications that are usually devoted to porous media. In case of the studied karst aquifer, it is shown that the initial groundwater level may be used to forecast the type of hydraulic connection between the river and the saturated zone during flood. However, initial water level in the karst aquifer does not give any information about the flow direction (gaining or losing stream) during a flood. The latter is found to be also controlled by the limited discharge capacity of karst conduits. A conceptual model of karst/river interactions during flood is given, with concepts that are derived from the analysis of the Coulazou watershed but that can be easily applied to most of the karst watersheds.

This student conference celebrates the bicentennial of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or: The Modern Prometheus (1818). At 200, the novel is still very much alive as it continues to haunt pop culture and literary theory alike. Literary critics have never ceased to engage with the novel and its myriad adaptations. From its lasting impact on science fiction and the fantastic to its emphasis on mediality and hybridity, it remains an enduring object of fascination. The M.A. students scheduled to talk about their work in progress will focus on feminist, postcolonial, ecocritical, and posthumanist approaches to the novel. We are cooperating with the YLAB to foster interactions between humanities departments and students at high schools in Lower Saxony. We are happy to welcome one speaker and some audience members from the "gymnasiale Oberstufe."

International audience ; Inductive processes are used in many industrial processes and applied to various materials within a large frequency domain from Hz to MHz. In order to analyze the performance and to optimize inductive processes we develop a dedicated software coupling integral method and finite element method. Integral method is dedicated to model electromagnetic phenomenon and finite element method is used to model heat transfer and fluid mechanic. This software is developed for 2D and 3D configurations. In the article some results are given for various inductive processes.

International audience ; Since 2008, epitaxial graphene growth has been developed in terms of homogeneity and scale by using a 1 ATM argon pressure at high temperature (>1650°C). Until now, it still remains challenging to obtain films with different and controlled characteristics such as the thickness or the doping by tuning the growth parameters. Here, we optimized the epitaxial growth of monolayer graphene (1LG) on 4H-SiC (0001) under a low argon pressure of 10 mbar. This intermediate pressure allows growing a continued 1LG in a short process ~1h30.First, we discuss the initial growth stages from buffer layer to 1LG as a function of annealing temperature (same heating rate). The combined Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy analyses show that a buffer layer, fully covering the Si-face of SiC, forms as the first step of growth. Subsequently, 1LG starts to grow at step edges and continue to cover the buffer layer on terraces with a step-flow growth mechanism. Eventually, reproducible syntheses of 1LG films were achieved by this temperature-controlled growth process. Then, we investigate the structural and electronic properties of the 1LG films. The integrated intensity of G-band in Raman spectra normalized with respect to a HOPG reference, AG/AG-HOPG, of each spectrum in Raman map of our continued graphene film is very close to the experimental value reported for a 1LG, demonstrating the good homogeneity. Atomically resolved scanning tunnellingmicroscopy (STM) evidences a (6x6) superstructure, indicative of 1LG covering a reconstructed interface layer[7]. Regarding the transport measurement, quantum Hall plateau values observed in our graphene layers confirmed both continuity and thickness of the1LG film. Moreover, we estimated a hole concentration of p~10^10 - 10^11 /(cm^2) at 1.7 K in helium atmosphere. We ascribe this unusual doping type to an atmosphere contamination effect since we regain the typical n-doped graphene under vacuum by transport measurement and STM analysis.

Digital games are a significant element in the digital media and information society. They influence the development of media technologies as well as interface design, online social interaction and new evaluation approaches. The Fourth Symposium for Information Design focused on the question of how game based learning environments can motivate and stimulate learners in different situations, and improve learning. It presented didactical and pedagogical issues, as well as actual examples and concrete applications.
