    In this article, we analyse the use of modality markers in a German text taken from the Freiburger Korpus. We notice how the necessity of preserving face influences the speakers' choices of downgraders and upgraders, devices that determine the intensity of the speech acts and, therefore, the mood of the interaction. Die Autorin analysiert die Anwendung der modality markers einem Text aus dem Freiburger Korpus. Sie zeigt wie das Bedürfnis, das Gesicht zu wahren, die Sprecher dazu führt, downgraders oder upgraders auszuwählen, die die Intensität der Sprechakte und damit auch die emotionale Stimmung der Interaktion steuern.

    From Vater's Thesis, I bring the discussion about the future verbal tense to the centre of discussion. The aim is to prove hat the future verbal tenses can also express time in German, and, therefore, they have to be included in the verbal System and, secondly, that the expression of modality can also be expressed by the future forms, and that it usually overlaps the notion of time. Ausgehend von Heinz Vaters These, das Futur der deutschen Verben habe keine temporale Bedeutung, stelle ich die Frage der Futurtempora erneut zur Diskussion. Meine Absicht ist es, zunächst zu beweisen, dass auch im Deutschen die Futurtempora Zeit ausdrücken und daher als Tempora in das Verbalsystem aufgenommen werden können, aber dass der modale Charakter bei den Futurtempora auch eine wichtige Rolle spielt.

    It is our aim to focus on certain aspects of the complex relationship between language – particularly German – and homeland/identity as seen in the work of a number of Jewish poets and authors. Initially we wish to point out this conflicting relationship in the work of Paul Celan and Rose Ausländer, two Jewish poets born in Romania. The examples of Viktor Klemperer and Ruth Klüger emphasize the complexity of this specific characteristic in the biography/work of German authors of Jewish origin. Elias Canetti, the Nobel Laureate born in Bulgaria, is a literary personality whose biography shows the importance of German culture influence in Eastern Europe at the beginning of the Twentieth Century: Canetti considers himself a German poet who belongs to the German-speaking cultural and literary world. Die Beispiele von Paul Celan und Rose Ausländer zeigen einige dramatische Aspekte des komplexen Verhältnisses zwischen Sprache und Identität, bzw. zwischen der deutschen Sprache im Dritten Reich und der literarischen Identität beider Dichter jüdischer Herkunft. Viktor Klemperer ist das Beispiel eines assimilierten Juden, der stets sein Deutschtum und seine tiefe Zugehörigkeit zu Deutschland und der deutschen Kultur unterstreicht. Ruth Klüger gehört zu einer späteren Generation, die sich eigentlich heimatlos fühlt, aber auch in der deutschen Sprache eine literarische Heimat findet. Canetti, Nobelpreisträger, ein sephardischer Jude, der in Bulgarien geboren ist, wählt für sich als Kosmopolit, als Mensch und Dichter eine Heimat, wo die deutsche Sprache und Kultur die Grenzen bilden.

    This article is intended to analyze Benjamin's interpretation of Kafka from the perspective of tradition. The revision of the said concept is here studied whithin the context of Benjaminian late works. The notions of aggadah and halacha are then central for the structure of his reflections. Thus, this paper aims at tracking the elements involved in the elaboration of a political theory that allowed Benjamin to recover Kafka for his political renewal of the concept of humanity. El presente artículo se propone analizar la interpretación benjaminiana de Kafka tomando como eje central el problema de la tradición y su resignificación política en el contexto de producción tardío. Son relevantes en este sentido, los conceptos de hagadá y halajá con los que Benjamin estructura sus análisis. El objetivo es entonces rastrear los elementos que en la elaboración de una teoría política permiten recuperar al narrador checo para la revisión de un concepto de lo humano.

    Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a construção das Stimmungen (atmosferas) na livre-adaptação do Fausto de Goethe realizada, em 2011, pelo diretor russo Aleksandr Sokurov. Dentro dessa perspectiva, buscaremos demonstrar, particularmente, como o diálogo entre Sokurov e Goethe não se dá somente no domínio do enredo, mas também no modo peculiar como ambos se utilizam da técnica como forma de modulação dos afetos dos espectadores. This work aims at analyzing the construction of the Stimmungen (atmospheres) in the free-adaptation of the Goethe's Faust made in 2011 by the Russian director Aleksandr Sokurov. Within this perspective, we seek to demonstrate in particular how the dialogue between Sokurov and Goethe does not happen only in realm of the plot, but also in the peculiar way in which both use the technique as a way of modulating the spectators’ affections.

    Este trabalho se propõe a utilizar os princípios inerentes à Linguística de Corpus – listas de palavras, palavras-chave e linhas de concordância – com o intuito de fazer uma análise comparativa do texto Trauer und Melancholie, escrito por Freud em 1917, e suas cinco retraduções publicadas em português no Brasil. Devido à insatisfação em relação às traduções indiretas dos escritos freudianos, desde a década de 1990 têm surgido propostas de retraduções que visam recuperar nos textos em português a terminologia e o estilo que o pai da Psicanálise utilizou em alemão. A fim de verificar até que ponto as escolhas tradutórias estão diretamente ligadas ao texto-fonte, partimos de dados empíricos levantados por ferramentas computacionais. As análises quantitativas e qualitativas revelaram que as retraduções diretas foram influenciadas pelas anteriores – indiretas –, mostrando que outros fatores, além do texto de partida, afetam o texto traduzido, ainda que os tradutores não se deem conta disso.     O presente trabalho discute diferentes estratégias de retextualização no processo de tradução de um texto acadêmico, especialmente no caso de transposição de um gênero mais próximo à oralidade a outro, mais próximo da escrituralidade. A edição crítica em português que incorpora estas estratégias de retextualização é desenvolvida tomando como base não só a primeira edição do manual didático-científico Textlinguistik de Eugenio Coseriu, fixada em alemão por Albrecht a partir de gravações em áudio de aulas ministradas por Coseriu em 1977/78, como também as edições em italiano e espanhol. Neste trabalho, diferentes estratégias de verbalização que permitem o deslocamento do texto em direção à escrituralidade são ilustradas e fundamentadas teoricamente, segundo os pressupostos teóricos do modelo de Tradições Discursivas, de base coseriana, que entende a língua como um diassistema de textos e variedades linguísticas localizadas no contínuo de oralidade e escrituralidade. This paper discusses different retextualization strategies during the process of translation, specially in the case of the transposition of a more orally influenced text genre into another one, with more affinity with literacy. The critical edition in Portuguese that incorporates these strategies of retextualization is developed taking into account not only the first edition of the handbook Textlinguistik, by Eugenio Coseriu, published in German by Albrecht from recorded classes given by Coseriu in the winter semester of 1977/78, but also the editions in Italian and in Spanish. In this study, different strategies of verbalization that allow the text displacement in the direction of literacy are illustrated and theoretically grounded, following the theoretical and methodological assumptions of the Discourse Tradition Model (of Coserian origin), which understands the language as a diasystem of texts and language varieties located in the continuum of orality and literacy.

    Cada vez mais, o ensino baseado em textos ganha espaço nas salas de aula de línguas e nos livros didáticos. A teoria dos gêneros do discurso, advinda do Círculo de Bakhtin, tem fundamentado diversas análises e é o ponto de partida das teorias de gêneros discursivos e/ou textuais. Essa teoria é centrada no estudo das materialidades discursivas em seus aspectos sócio-históricos e ideológicos, considerando também as condições de produção e as situações de comunicação dos discursos. Diante de tais considerações, os objetivos deste trabalho são: verificar a concepção de gêneros em um livro didático de alemão como língua estrangeira para iniciantes Planet A1 e investigar o modo como as atividades com os gêneros são abordadas nesse material. A análise apresentada neste artigo é qualitativa e não há qualquer quantificação dos gêneros abordados no livro didático. Para tanto, foram escolhidas três propostas de atividades baseadas em três gêneros, entre os mais recorrentes do livro didático: uma conversa telefônica, e-mails e um gráfico. Os resultados das análises demonstram que o livro didático Teaching based on texts and textual diversity has been receiving increasing space in classrooms and textbooks. The Bakhtin Circle Theory of speech genres has founded several theories of analysis and it is the starting point of the theories of textual/discourse genres. This theory focuses on the study of discursive materiality in their socio-historical and ideological aspects, also considering the conditions of production and communicative situations. Given these considerations, the aims of this work are to verify the conception of genres in a book of German as a foreign language for beginners: Planet A1 and investigate how the activities are addressed in this material. The analysis is qualitative and there is no quantification of genres covered in the textbook. Therefore, three activities were chosen based on three genres, among the most current in the textbook: a telephone conversation, e-mails and a chart. The results show that the textbook aims to address the textual heterogeneity, but it rarely has characteristics related to the conditions of production and the communicative situation.

    Klemens Renoldner, curador da exposição Precisamos de uma coragem bem diferente! -Stefan Zweig - despedida da Europa, aborda, em entrevista, as relações entre entre textos e contextos no âmbito da obra do escritor austríaco Stefan Zweig (1881-1942). Com isso, traz à tona diferentes contextos de recepção e vertentes interpretativas da obra zweigiana, contribuindo assim à relativização de tradicionais clichês em torno da vida e da obra do autor. Além disso, a conversa trata da cooperação entre o Stefan Zweig Centre, em Salzburgo, e a Casa Stefan Zweig, em Petrópolis (Rio de Janeiro), e apresenta projetos realizados e futuros. The curator of the exhibition We need an entirely different courage! Stefan Zweig - farewell to Europe, Klemens Renoldner, discusses in this interview the relation between texts and contexts with respect to the work of the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig (1881-1942). He brings out different contexts of reception and different interpretative approaches, that can put traditional stereotypes about the life and work of the author into new perspectives. The conversation also deals with the cooperation between the Stefan Zweig Centre in Salzburg and the Casa Stefan Zweig in Petrópolis (Rio de Janeiro) and mentions joint projects that have already been realized, as well as future projects. Der Kurator der Ausstellung Wir brauchen einen ganz anderen Mut! Stefan Zweig - Abschied von Europa, Klemens Renoldner, spricht im Interview über Text-Kontext-Beziehungen in Hinblick auf das Werk des österreichischen Schriftstellers Stefan Zweig (1881-1942). Dabei kommen u.a. unterschiedliche Rezeptionskontexte und Interpretationsansätze ans Licht, die dazu beitragen, traditionelle Klischees rund um das Leben und das Werk des Autors zu relativieren.     Lehrer gelten als zentrale und entscheidende Größe des Fremdsprachenunterrichts. Untersuchungen zur Lehrertätigkeit in der einschlägigen Literatur nehmen einen großen Platz ein. Demgegenüber ist die Zahl der Arbeiten, die die Lehreraktivitäten im Fremdsprachenunterricht zum Gegenstand haben, sehr gering. Es ist im allgemeinen bekannt, daß die Lehreraktivitäten im Unterricht Deutsch als Fremdsprache eine unentbehrliche Bedeutung haben. Die Lehrer haben daneben zur funktionellen und effektiven Gestaltung des Unterrichts viele verschiedene Aktivitäten auszuführen. Diese vorliegende Arbeit zielt darauf, die Lehreraktivitäten im kommunikativ orientierten Deutschunterricht darzulegen. Dabei werden auch Vorschläge in Bezug auf die Lehreraktivitäten konkretisiert, die im kommunikativ orientierten Unterricht Deutsch als Fremdsprache zu erfüllen sind.

    People who learn Portuguese usually have difficulties in using two of the most frequent verbs of the Portuguese verbal system: ser and estar. Native speakers of German for example fail to easily identify the differences between these verbs, which are compared with the German verb sein. Our purpose is to describe these verbs, their meaning and function, and also to attempt to find criteria to help learners to identify the differences to use these verbs. Some of the differences can be explained by the speakers experiences and the context. Lerner des Portugiesischen als Fremdsprache haben oft Schwierigkeiten, die zwei häufig gebrauchten Verben des portugiesischen Verbalsystems ser und estar zu verwenden. Deutschsprachige erkennen kaum die Unterschiede zwischen diesen Verben, die im Deutschen oft mit dem Verb sein gleichgesetzt werden, das auch in ähnlichen Strukturen und Situationen vorkommt. In dieser Arbeit beschäftigen wir uns damit, diese Verben in ihrer Funktion und Bedeutung zu beschreiben und versuchen, Kriterien aufzustellen, die dem Lernenden helfen können, diese Unterschiede besser zu verstehen und dadurch die Verben besser anzuwenden. Einige Unterschiede können durch die Erfahrungen des Sprechers und durch den Kontext erklärt werden.

    For the learners of Portuguese and German as foreign languages the subjunctive mood represents a learning problem. Based on syntactic and pragmatic categories, the subjunctive is classified in a way that describes its use and permits the comparison between the Portuguese subjuntivo and the German Konjunktiv. Für Lernende des Portugiesischen bzw. des Deutschen als Fremdsprache stellt der Konjunktiv eine Lernschwierigkeit dar. Ausgehend von syntaktischen und pragmatischen Kategorien wird hier versucht, eine Klassifikation des Konjunktivs durchzuführen, die seinen Gebrauch beschreibt und einen Vergleich des portugiesischen subjuntivo mit dem deutschen Konjunktiv ermöglicht.

    From the very beginning literary discourse plays a decisive role in the context of colonial discourse of power. Even Anna Seghers, a progressive socialist authoress with a fixation on the Enlightenment, the French Revolution and the Jewish-Christian tradition is unable to detach herself from the European claim on universality. In a tensely opposed relationship of projection and otherness, of "memoria" and intertextuality, Heiner Müller, however, understands literature in the sense of Emanuel Lévina's respect for the other being as a work on difference. Vom Anfang an spielt im kolonialen Machtdiskurs der Literaturdiskurs eine entscheidende Rolle. Auch Anna Seghers als fortschrittliche, sozialistische Autorin kann sich mit ihrer Fixierung auf Aufklärung, Französische Revolution und jüdisch-christliche Tradition nicht vom europäischen Universalismus-Anspruch lösen. In einem Spannungsverhältnis von Projektion und Alterität, von Memoria und Intertextualität versteht Heiner Müller dagegen Literatur im Sinne von Emanuel Lévinas' Achtung des Anderen als Arbeit an der Differenz.

    O artigo aborda as experiências fotografias e narrativas do fotojornalista austríaco Mario Baldi, que trabalhou entre os índios brasileiros na primeira metade do século XX. Baldi escreveu um livro sobre sua convivência com os Carajá e publicou tanto no Brasil quanto na Alemanha. O objetivo dessa análise é comparar as duas versões e abordar as inovações e limites das representações que Baldi faz da alteridade cultural brasileira, influenciadas por um romantismo etnológico compartilhado por alguns estudiosos brasileiros e alemães, denominado nos anos 1940 e 1950 de indiologia brasileira. This article concerns photographic and narrative experiences of the Austrian photographer Mario Baldi, who worked among Brazilian Indians in the first half of the twentieth century. Baldi wrote a book about his relation with the Carajá and published it both in Brazil and Germany. This analysis aims to compare both versions of the book and consider the innovations and limits of the representations made by Baldi about the cultural otherness in Brazil. These representations, shared by both Brazilian and German authors, were influenced by an ethnological romantism, the so-called Brazilian Indiology in the 1940's and 1950's.
