By his novel "as-summar ath-thalatha" Saʿīd Awlaqī catches the atmosphere in the People"s Democratic Republic of Yemen shortly before its breakdown. Describing two important days in the lives of his heroes he shows the stagnation and insecurity prevailing at that time, but also the despotism and injustice the protagonists are faced with. The author gives up the narration in chronological order that was typical for Yemeni literature until then and chooses the structure of a collage: a frame story interrupted by several inside narratives that give additional information and have a heavy influence on the speed of narration. Àwlaqi also often changes the nararrator"s perspective. The Protagonists are shown as very different characters who are joined together due to their high moral standards
