    We explore whether there is a link between mood and hiring decisions. This research examines how positive mood affects the discrimination faced my homosexual job candidates compared to heterosexuals. Our experimental design allows us to track the complete hiring process and monitor employers' behavior within and without our treatment context, in both online and offline labor market settings. Constructing pairs of curriculum vitae, distinguished, in each case, only by the sexual orientation or the gender of the applicants, led to the observation that females and gay men faced a significantly lower chance of getting hired regardless the labor market context. We also find that female employers propose higher levels of discrimination only for the case of female applicants. Our positive mood manipulation led to a depletion of discrimination levels, with the effects being more robust in the online labor context. Thus, there is substantial experimental evidence to suggest that discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender does exist also in online labor markets. Contributions to the hiring discrimination, mood research, and gig-economy literature are discussed.

    Mit dem Erscheinen von Goethes »Werther« (1774) hält ein neues Phänomen Einzug in die Literaturgeschichte: die Stimmung. Dieses schon der Antike bekannte Gefühl einer fundamentalen Verschränkung von Ich und Welt avanciert im letzten Drittel des 18. Jahrhunderts zu einem poetologischen Gestaltungsprinzip, das die folgende Epoche der Romantik entscheidend prägen wird. Nach ihrem Aufkommen in der Literatur wird die ästhetische Stimmung auch in Musik und anderen Künsten europaweit zu einem zentralen Ausdrucksmittel. Stefan Hajduks Studie liefert die systematische Ausarbeitung von Stimmung zu einem methodisch belastbaren Konzept der historischen Literaturforschung und verbindet damit die aktuelle Theoriedebatte über Emotionen mit der Praxis der wissenschaftlichen Gefühlslektüre. With the publication of Goethe's `Werther' (1774), a new phenomenon found its way into the history of literature: mood. This feeling - familiar since antiquity - of a fundamental entanglement of self and world, developed in the last third of the 18th century into a formal poetic principal which went on to decisively shape the ensuing epoch of Romanticism. After its emergence in literature, the aesthetic mood also becomes a central medium of expression in music and other forms of art right across Europe. Stefan Hajduk's study systematically fleshes out the phenomenon of mood into a methodologically sound concept of historical literary research, and as such, connects the current theoretical debates around emotions with the practice of the scientific reading of emotions

Ki wird auf Deutsch häufig übersetzt mit Worten wie Luft, Atem, Atmosphäre, Lebenskraft oder -energie. Inspiriert von der linguistischen Phänomenologie von J. L. Austin und ausgehend von philosophischen Ansätzen von Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Hermann Schmitz, Gernot Böhme und Rolf Elberfeld kommen Zusammenhänge zwischen alltäglichem Wortgebrauch und Modi des Fühlens bzw. Empfindens in den Blick und lassen Grundlinien einer kritischen Ästhetik der Gefühlsartikulierung hervortreten. What does feeling mean? Does it differ depending on the linguistic cultures in which one grows up, and if so, to what extent? This book explores the different forms of sensation and feeling formation that can be observed within the word field ki (気). Ki is often translated into German with words such as air, breath, atmosphere, life force or energy. Inspired by the linguistic phenomenology of J. L. Austin and based on philosophical approaches by Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Hermann Schmitz, Gernot Böhme and Rolf Elberfeld, this study establishes connections between everyday word use and modes of feeling or sensation and allows the basic outlines of a critical aesthetic of articulating feeling to emerge.
