    Projections of climate change damages based on climate-econometric estimates suggest that, without mitigation, global warming could reduce average global incomes by over 20% towards the end of the century (Burke et al., 2015). This figure significantly surpasses climate damages in Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs). For example, global climate damages obtained with the seminal DICE model are just a 7% reduction in output (Nordhaus, 2018). Here, we show that the discrepancy between the projections can be resolved by accounting for growth convergence in a climate-econometric approach that is consistent with the macroeconomic models underlying most IAMs. By re-estimating the global non-linear relationship between temperature and country-level economic growth, our convergence-consistent projections reveal that under an unmitigated warming scenario, global climate damages amount to 6%.

    The level and growth rates of Total Factor Productivity estimates have been extensively used as a means of assessing the level of efficiency in production across regions as well as a source of the observed differences in economic performance. This paper, focusing on a sample of 242 EU NUTS2 regions spanning the 2000-2020 period provides a time series of TFP estimates, based on a new dataset of regional level capital stocks, and documents significant heterogeneity in terms of TFP developments across regions and groups of regions. The evidence suggest that TFP can account for up to 80% of the observed income differences, while it is made evident that during the period covered by the sample convergence in terms of TFP was weakened.

    Twitch Plays Pokémon presented a unique opportunity: sixty to one hundred twenty thousand players aimed to complete a single run of Pokémon: Red Version. Oppositional identities, based on differences in strategy were created, and a player-driven narrative began to form, codified by specific Pokémon and items. Rather than employing a secular theme to navigate a secular space, the moment of confrontation was imbibed with religiosity.This paper seeks to account for the construction of a communal narrative, revolving around the alignment of religious themes with Pokémon through two sources: the transcript of the chat where religious identities were assigned to Pokémon; and the subreddit of the same. The framework of this paper combines threads of research on social media, seriality, anthropology of globalized phenomenon and the specifics of internet gaming and connectivity to analyze the primary sources of this phenomenon.

    This paper analyzes the evolution of global interpersonal income inequality in the last decades. While some authors characterize the period 2000-2020 as an "age of convergence" (Milanovic, 2022), others argue that global inequality has remained constant (Chancel & Piketty, 2021) or even increased (Hickel, 2017). Nevertheless, all datasets used in the literature point to a decline in standard measures of relative inequality, meaning that the difference in narratives stems from the way these data are interpreted. This paper contributes to the interpretation of this period by showing that while global inequality did fall between 2000 and 2020, this trend was not the result of a truly global convergence process involving all countries, as it was mainly driven by high growth rates in Asia. Combining data from the World Income Inequality Database (WIID) with population forecasts from the United Nations, an upward trend in global income inequality is projected for the coming years. The present study shows that a significant share of the Chinese population has reached such high-income levels that further increases in these incomes will contribute to a rise in inequality. Moreover, a further reduction in global inequality will require faster income growth in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, whereas sustained high growth rates in East Asia will contribute to higher inequality.
