    What is the child for Latin American cinema? This book aims to answer that question, tracing the common tendencies of the representation of the child in the cinema of Latin American countries, and demonstrating the place of the child in the movements, genres and styles that have defined that cinema. Deborah Martin combines theoretical readings of the child in cinema and culture, with discussions of the place of the child in specific national, regional and political contexts, to develop in-depth analyses and establish regional comparisons and trends. She pays particular attention to the narrative and stylistic techniques at play in the creation of the child's perspective, and to ways in which the presence of the child precipitates experiments with film aesthetics. Bringing together fresh readings of well-known films with attention to a range of little-studied works, The Child in Contemporary Latin American Cinema examines films from the recent and contemporary period, focussing on topics such as the death of the child in ‘street child’ films, the role of the child in post-dictatorship filmmaking and the use of child characters to challenge gender and sexual ideologies. The book also aims to place those analyses in a historical context, tracing links with important precursors, and paying attention to the legacy of the child’s figuring in the mid-century movements of melodrama and the New Latin American Cinema

    This book explores the topic of ideological manipulation in the translation of childrens literature by addressing several crucial questions, including how target language norms and conventions affect the quality of a translation, how translations are selected on the basis of what is culturally accepted, who is involved in the selection of what should be translated for children in the target culture, and how this process takes place. The author presents different ways of looking at the translation of childrens books, focusing particularly on the practices of intralingual and interlingual translations as a form of rewriting across a selection of European languages. This book will be of interest to Translation Studies and children's literature scholars, as well as those with a wider interest in the impact of ideology on culture. Vanessa Leonardi is Associate Professor of English Language and Translation Studies at the Italian University of Ferrara. Her research interests lie mainly in the fields of Translation Studies, Gender Studies and English language teaching

    Lisa Tetzner und Kurt Kläber (Pseudonym Kurt Held) waren bereits bekannte AutorInnen, als sie 1933 ins Exil in die Schweiz gingen. Dort entstanden Klassiker wie „Die Kinder aus der Nummer 67“, „Die schwarzen Brüder“ und „Die rote Zora und ihre Bande“. Der Beginn ihrer produktiven Partnerschaft liegt jedoch in der Jugendbewegung. Der interdisziplinär angelegte Sammelband zeigt detailliert, wie die Ideen der Jugendbewegung das Werk des Autorenpaars beeinflussten und auch das Schreiben anderer zeitgenössischer AutorInnen nachhaltig prägten. Damit wird der Forschung erstmals ein tieferes Verständnis vom Konnex Jugendbewegung – Jugendlichkeit – Jugendliteratur geboten
