    In dieser Arbeit untersucht Max Rohstock die Metaphysik der neuplatonischen Tradition und J. G. Fichtes. Damit rückt er erstens die Liebe als zentrale Prinzipfunktion, die die Philosophie von Plotin, Proklos, Dionysios, Eriugena, Cusanus und Fichte trägt, in den Fokus. Zweitens demonstriert er, dass die metaphysischen Spekulationen des Neuplatonismus und Fichtes nicht bloß in einzelnen Aspekten übereinstimmen. Vielmehr muss man von tiefgreifenden systematischen Parallelen sprechen, die zu verstehen helfen, wieso der in der Forschung oft kolportierte Abgrund zwischen vor- und nachkantischer Philosophie irreführend ist. Diese Thesen werden anhand des häufig missverstandenen Konzeptes metaphysischer Transzendenz veranschaulicht. Max Rohstock examines the metaphysics of the Neoplatonic tradition and J. G. Fichte. Firstly, he finds love to be the central principle that grounds the philosophy of Plotinus, Proclus, Dionysius, Eriugena, Cusanus and Fichte. Secondly, he demonstrates that the metaphysical speculations of Neoplatonism and Fichte do not merely coincide in certain aspects. Rather, they demonstrate profound systematic parallels that help to understand why the often-proclaimed abyss between pre- and post-Kantian philosophy is misleading. Both theses are justified on the basis of the often-misunderstood concept of metaphysical transcendence.

    Arthur Kok klärt systematisch über das Grundverhältnis von Wissenschaft und Metaphysik auf, indem er zwei Schlüsseltexte der philosophischen Tradition einander gegenüberstellt: die ersten Teile von Kants Kritik der reinen Vernunft und Hegels Phänomenologie des Geistes. Das Buch stellt die Frage nach dem Absoluten vorurteilslos und rekonstruiert, wie sie bei Kant und Hegel grundsätzlich abgehandelt wird. Die in ihren Augen notwendige Verwissenschaftlichung der Metaphysik wird sowohl bei Kant als auch bei Hegel mit einer "Wende zum Subjekt" verknüpft. Wie jedoch das Moment der Subjektivität im Wesen unseres Daseins genau gedacht werden soll, und wie ihre Explikation als Bedingung für die Möglichkeit der Metaphysik fungiert, darüber sind sich beide Denker nicht einig. Hier setzt Koks eigene Lösung des Problems an.

    German idealism has attempted to think an absolute ground to self-conscious I-hood. As a result it has been theologically disqualified as pantheistic or even atheistic since many maintain that such a ground cannot be reconciled with a personal God. In the early writings of Friedrich Schelling (1775-1854), it is clear that he and his contemporaries were aware of this difficulty. His Tübinger fellow student, Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843), was convinced of the ultimate inadequacy of any philosophical system to grasp the unitary ground of all that is and turned to poetry. The metaphysical insights expressed in his poetry have been largely neglected in both philosophical and theological scholarship. Drawing on the 20th century metaphysics of Dieter Henrich and Karl Rahner, this book elaborates on Hölderlin's poetry. This results in a novel concept of God as both unitary and personal ground of I-hood.

    Challen-ging the idea of the "liquidation" of ornament as an indicator of modernity, the thesis focuses on ornament after its proclaimed abolition in architectural moder-nism. With Critical Theory as its conceptual basis, its main argument is that, in modern architecture, classical ornament has undergone a radical change of status. Wittnessing a process of "intellectualisation of perception" in modern aesthetics, the debates on the ornament in early modernism appear as directly leading up to today's practice of digitalization of everyday culture. In a critical juxtaposition of both modern semio-tics and philosophical aesthetics, ornament is shown at the center of a shift in 20th Century architectural aesthetics, from ornament-as-object to ornament-as-per-formative-production and from the duality principle to repetition compulsion. Departing from A. Loos ̕Freudian ornament theory, moving on to Russian constructivism, Mies ̕pictorial nihilism, Neue Sachlichkeit and the Surrealists ̕automation techniques, the thesis focuses on the semiological reconceptualization of ornament between the two anti-podes of modern architecture: Loos and Eisenman. Gegen die Kahlschlagmetapher von der "Liquidierung des Ornaments" steht im Zentrum der Dissertation die These vom Statuswandel des Ornaments in der architektonischen Moderne. Am Punkt des technologischen Paradigmenwechsels wird das Ornament im Spannungsfeld diskutiert zwischen der Maschinenproduktion zu Beginn des 20. Jhd. und der Virtualisierung der Kultur im Computerzeitalter, d.h. zwischen der vermeintlichen Abschaffung des Ornaments durch Loos (1910) und Eisenmans performativen Entwurfsverfahren (1990). Die Frage stellt sich, inwiefern die Ornamentproblematik der Moderne nicht als Vorgeschichte zur spezifischen Problematik der medialisierten Massenkultur und ihrer digitalen Bildlogik heute zu lesen wäre. Mit V. Sklovskij und S. Freud, M. Tafuri und K. M. Hays, aber auch zwischen Adornos Ästhetik der "Nicht-Identität" und Derridas "Parergonalität" geht es um die semiologische Reformulierung des Ornaments: im Übergang der Ästhetik der Moderne vom Dualismusprinzip zum Wiederholungsprinzip, von der affirmativen Rückbezüglichkeit zur kritischen Performativität und von der Objektproduktion zur Medialisierung der Kultur.
