    "This book is a cutting-edge interdisciplinary collection of essays by some of today's most forward-thinking scholars. These writers explore the ways in which the prefix 'trans' erupts German identity and the identity of Germany itself. The volume calls German identity into question and examines the ways in which the prefix 'trans' is deployed to these ends in relation to national borders, historical limits, political institutions, social practices, and forms of cultural and aesthetic expression. The collection reveals the ways in which the transcendence of national, corporeal, disciplinary, and institutional limits is embodied by the use of the prefix 'trans'--and has the potential to do so much more. The volume engages the multifaceted nature of 'trans'--and a Germaneness that defies geography--to explore how Germans and Germany are increasingly situated 'beyond' limits. Collectively, these investigations reveal a radical discourse of Germanness, a discourse with significant implications for historical and contemporary German self-understanding.     Einer der kennzeichnenden Vorgänge der europäischen Zeitgeschichte ist die Relativierung nationaler Territorien und nationaler Funktionen - durch transnationale Entwicklungen einerseits, durch eine Neudefinition der Regionen andererseits. Zwischen Regionen enthält Beiträge zur Erforschung interregionaler Beziehungen aus der Sicht der Geographie, der Politikwissenschaft, der Kommunikations- und Sprachwissenschaft, der Psychologie und der Bildungswissenschaften. Neben begrifflicher und theoretischer Grundlegung vermitteln die Beiträge konkrete Einsichten in den Stand interregionaler Beziehungen in einer zentralen Euro-Region, die an drei Nationen teilhat, dem Gebiet am Oberrhein. Der Band ist hervorgegangen aus der Forschungsinitiative "Interregionalität" der Universität Koblenz-Landau. Der Herausgeber, Hans H.     "Anywhere But Here brings together new scholarship on the cross-cultural experiences of intellectuals of African descent since the eighteenth century. The book embraces historian Paul Gilroy's prominent thesis in The Black Atlantic and posits arguments beyond The Black Atlantic's traditional organization and symbolism. These essays expand categories and suggest patterns that have united individuals and communities across the African diaspora. They highlight the stories of people who, from their intercultural and often marginalized positions, challenged the status quo, created international alliances, cultivated expertise and cultural fluency abroad, as well as crafted physical and intellectual spaces for their self-expression and dignity to thrive. What, for example, connects the eighteenth-century Igbo author Olaudah Equiano with 1940s literary figure Richard Wright; nineteenth-century expatriate anthropologist Antenor Fermin with 1960s Haitian émigrés to the Congo; Japanese Pan-Asianists and Southern Hemisphere Aboriginal activists with Jamaican-born Marcus Garvey; or Angela Davis with artists of the British Black Arts Movement, Ingrid Pollard and Zarina Bhimji? In this book, the author reveals the landscape of a spectacular circulation of ideas between 'East' and 'West' that posits a global scene upon which Persian culture was staged. From the Biblical stories of Esther and Mordechai to Xenophon's Cyropaedia, from Hegel's Philosophy of History to Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, from Mozart's Magic Flute to Handel's Xerxes, from Matthew Arnold's 'Sohrab and Rostam' to Fitzgerald's Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, from Montesquieu's Persian Letters and Goethe's West-Östlicher Diwan to Gauguin and Matisse's fascination with Persian paintings, from the rise of the European Enlightenment and Romanticism to the height of American Transcendentalism, Dabashi maps out a geography of European social, intellectual, and artistic history in which Persia and Persian culture were definitive, and which in turn went back to Iran and its Persianate continental context to cause groundbreaking historical changes. The result is an epistemically provocative reading of world history. The book seeks to alter our conception of the European and therefore global fascination with Persian (and by extension Oriental) culture by locating it on the transnational bourgeois public sphere and thus shows it to be definitive to the social and intellectual movements of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries--from the Enlightenment and Romanticism to the American and French revolutions.
