    The first edition of this work became a standard reference work in the general context of humanistic approaches to foreign language teaching and learning. This new edition gives a brief overview of further developments in relevant fields and discusses the importance of the concept of teaching as an art in light of the increasing standardization and digitalization of education. Reviews of the 1st edition I believe that the book will become a standard reference point for all those who, against the current tide of 'scientific', objectives-based, test-oriented, control-obsessed, sterile approaches to language teaching, continue to believe that language teaching is indeed an art, and a joyful art at that.     Mit dieser umfangreichen Monografie dokumentiert Mario Zanucchi in geschlossener Form die Rezeption der Lyrik des französischen Symbolismus in der deutschsprachigen Dichtung der Moderne. Die Arbeit befasst sich mit Prozessen und Figuren der transnationalen Übernahme literarischer Formen und Motive (Transfer) und deren poetischer Anverwandlung bzw. Überformung (Modifikation): Es werden imitative, transformative und transgressive Verfahren der Textproduktion und -reproduktion berücksichtigt [.], die in Übersetzungen, Übertragungen, Pastiches, Adaptationen, Nachdichtungen, Parodien und Kontrafakturen ihren Niederschlag finden. Demzufolge orientiert sich die komparatistisch angelegte Studie methodologisch und begrifflich stark an der Intertextualitätsforschung. Sie deckt die Zeitspanne zwischen 1890, dem Erscheinungsjahr von Stefan Georges 'Hymnen', und dem Jahr 1923, in dem die 'Sonette an Orpheus' von Rainer Maria Rilke erstmalig veröffentlicht werden, ab. Von daher umfasst sie sowohl die ästhetizistische als auch die avantgardistische Moderne. Zanucchis Arbeit begegnet einem langjährigen Forschungsdesiderat schon allein deswegen, weil eine derart breit angelegte und auf einem umfangreichen Textkorpus basierende Überblicksdarstellung über die deutschsprachige symbolistische Lyrik bisher fehlte.
