ger: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den soziologischen Hintergründen von Thrash Metal Songtexten sowie deren literarischer Analyse. Zu Beginn wird ein Überblick über das Genre bereitgestellt, welcher als generelle Einleitung in die Thematik fungieren soll. Hierbei wird Bezug auf Herkunft, Entwicklung sowie generelle musikalische Charakteristika genommen. Obwohl Thrash Metal als internationales Phänomen kategorisiert werden kann, liegt der Ursprung des Genres doch beinahe ausschließlich im nordamerikanischen Raum. Aus diesem Grund wird in der Arbeit auch nur auf dieses geographische Gebiet Bezug genommen. In den anschließend folgenden Kapiteln werden die Hauptthematiken, welche vermehrt im Songmaterial auftauchen, besprochen und beleuchtet. Diese Themenschwerpunkte sind die Glorifizierung des Heavy Metal-Lebensstils und der Musik generell, satanistische/okkulte Themen sowie politisch motiviertes Gedankengut. Neben der Untersuchung von diversen Song- und Textbeispielen, wird in den Kapiteln auch Bezug auf die Relevanz der jeweiligen soziologischen Kontexte genommen. Den Abschluss der Arbeit stellt eine genaue literarische Textanalyse dar, welche sich auf jeweils ein Beispiel der zuvor genannten Hauptthematiken bezieht. Während Thrash Metal keine lyrisch hochwertigen Songtexte der Marke Bob Dylan hervorbringen konnte, beschreibt die Arbeit, inwieweit Selbstfindung und die Darstellung der eigenen Überzeugungen in den Texten reflektiert werden, sowie deren generelles Reagieren auf etwaige soziale, kulturelle und politische Geschehnisse. eng: This thesis focuses on sociological as well as literary aspects of Thrash Metal lyrics. To properly introduce the topic, the first chapter will provide a general overview of what, exactly, Thrash Metal is. The focus thereby will lie on its origin, its development and on its general musical characteristics. While the Heavy Metal subgenre of Thrash Metal is generally known as an international phenomenon, it primarily originates from the United States, which is why this thesis will put its main focus exclusively on this specific location. Following the introduction, the subsequent chapters will analyze the three main thematic fields that are addressed in the lyrics of Thrash Metal songs. These themes include the glorification of the Heavy Metal lifestyle and the music itself, satanic/occult topics as well as political ideas and beliefs. In addition to each chapters focus on specific examples of each particular thematic field, their sociological and cultural relevance will be highlighted and discussed. Following the investigation of Thrash Metal's thematic cornerstones, the final and conclusive chapter of this thesis will feature an in-depth literary analysis of three songs, with each of them representing one of the aforementioned lyrical fields. Although Thrash Metal lyricists have never managed to compose highly sophisticated lyrics like those of Bob Dylan and the likes, this thesis shows how the songs reflect self-discovery and personal convictions, which also includes reactions to social, cultural as well as political incidents and developments.
