    Inwiefern lässt sich das mittelalterliche Fastnachtstheater als Auseinandersetzung mit städtischer Ordnung verstehen? In der vorliegenden Studie interpretiert Beatrice von Lüpke die vorreformatorischen Nürnberger Fastnachtspiele unter Berücksichtigung historischer Quellen und geschichtswissenschaftlicher Forschungsergebnisse. Viele Spieltexte lassen sich dadurch neu erschließen; vor allem deutet die Vielzahl der Anspielungen auf Ordnungsmuster und Konflikte darauf hin, dass die Teilhabe am städtischen Ordnungsdiskurs diese frühe Spieltradition wesentlich charakterisiert. Mit den ihm eigenen poetischen Mitteln verhandelt das Fastnachtspiel Recht, Religion, Politik, Wirtschaft und Stand sowie Ehe- und Geschlechterrollen. Exemplarisch zeigen sich hier die Bedingungen des vormodernen Theaters in der Stadt. To what extent were the Shrovetide pieces performed in the mid-15th century influenced by issues of urban order? In this study, Beatrice von Lüpke interprets the pre-Reformation Nuremberg Shrovetide plays by using historical sources and tapping into academic historical research results. Subsequently, many of the plays' texts are revealed in a new light. Moreover, the myriad allusions to urban orders and conflicts that come to light indicate that participation in the discourse on these things characterized this early theatrical tradition significantly. Through their own particular poetic means, the Shrovetide plays grappled with justice, religion, politics, economics and status as well as martial and gender roles. What was required of pre-modern urban theatre is revealed through these examples.

    We analyse in what way co-determination affects non-compliance with the German minimum wage, which was introduced in 2015. The Works Constitution Act (WCA), the law regulating co-determination at the plant level, provides works councils with indirect means to ensure compliance with the statutory minimum wage. Based on this legal situation, our theoretical model predicts that non-compliance is less likely in co-determined firms because works councils enhance the enforcement of the law. The economic correlates of co-determination, such as higher productivity and wages, affect non-compliance in opposite directions. The empirical analysis, using data from the German Socio-economic Panel (SOEP) for the years 2016 and 2019, demonstrates that non-compliance occurs less often for employees in co-determined establishments, while there is no impact on the difference between the minimum wage and the amount, which was actually paid. Therefore, co-determination helps to secure the payment of minimum wages.
