Ina-Maria Greverus ist Direktorin des Instituts für Kulturanthropologie und Europäische Ethnologie an der Universität Frankfurt. Sie schrieb ein grundlegendes Werk über den »territorialen Menschen« und in der Beck'schen Schwarzen Reihe den Band »Kultur und Alltagswelt« (BSR182).     Das Wohnen der Menschen ist weder ein Tun noch ein Handeln oder eine Funktion. Im Wohnen drückt sich vielmehr aus, wie die Menschen an Orten und in Räumen ihr Leben führen. Wohnraum im weiteren Sinne ist (über die „eigenen vier Wände“ hinaus) die Erde im Ganzen. Damit das Wohnen vom lokalen wie globalen Maßstab gelingt und die Erde nicht ver-wohnt wird, muss der Mensch gut wohnen. Wo das Nehmen (aus den Ressourcen der Natur wie des Sozialen) aber gegen das Prinzip der Schonung verstößt, wird das Wohnen zu einer Sache der Sorge um die Bewohnbarkeit der Erde in der Zukunft. Deshalb reklamiert sich heute eine ethische Revision aller Arten und Weisen wie die Menschen auf der Erde sind. The way people live is neither a task, nor an action, nor a function. Rather, living expresses how people carry out their lives in places and spaces. One’s home in the broader sense (beyond ‘one's own four walls’) is the earth as a whole. In order for living to be successful on both a local and global scale, and for the earth not to become overly inhabited, people must live in a good way. But where extraction (from the resources of nature as well as the social sphere) breaks the principle of conservation, living becomes a matter of care for the habitability of the earth in the future. That is why today an ethical revision of all the ways and means in which people are on the earth is required.

    How are notions of 'home' made and negotiated by ethnographers? And how does the researcher relate to forms of home encountered during fieldwork? Rather than searching for an abstract, philosophical understanding of home, this collection asks how home gains its meaning and significance through ongoing efforts to create, sustain or remake a sense of home. The volume explores how researchers and informants alike are always involved in the process of making and unmaking home, and challenges readers to reimagine ethnographic practice in terms of active, morally complex process of home-making. Contributions reach across the globe and across social contexts, and the book includes chapters on council housing and middle-class apartment buildings, homelessness and migration, problems with accessing the field as well as limiting it, physical as well as sentimental notions of home, and objects as well as inter-human social relations. Home draws attention to processes of sociality that normally remain analytically invisible, and contributes to a growing and rich field of study on the anthropology of home

Doch ist ihm die Zugehörigkeit zur Moderne immer wieder explizit aberkannt worden. Kristin Eichhorn revidiert diese These, indem sie eine grundlegende Neubestimmung literarischer Modernität vornimmt, die auf der inszenierten Repräsentativität von Autorschaft fußt und den Manifest-Charakter der Moderne selbst herausarbeitet. Nicht inhaltliche ästhetische Vorgaben machen in diesem Sinne modernes Schreiben aus, sondern der immer wieder neugestaltete Gestus, der den Willen kommuniziert, modern zu sein

    This collection of essays sets out to examine the complexity and significance of the idea of "home" in its various permutations and manifestations. It puts forward the notion of "home" not only as a physical spatial/geographical location, but as a cultural, socio-economic and ideological paradigm that is gendered and racialized. In exploring the different concepts, constructions and contexts of "home," and challenging the common associations of the term, the contributions in this volume propose that it might be less a static and fixed entity than a flexible, multivalent and even inherently contradictory term. Adopting diachronic approaches to the concept of home from various disciplines such as literature, cultural studies, history, sociology, art, media, architecture, philosophy, and psychology, this volume includes an exceptionally broad variety of case studies and individual conceptualizations of home in literature, film, media, and the arts. It illustrates how the notion of "home" should be unhinged from prevalent and seemingly universal understandings of the term as a permanent location of repose and shelter, the place of one's origin and roots. Rather, the essays collected here propose that "home" refers to a much more complex, and contested, concept. To this end, they investigate the various productive tensions that emerge as a result of globally/locally contested spaces, diverging ideologies, conflicts of interest and power struggles, all of which re-shape and re-configure the various concepts, constructions and contexts of "home."
