    Zeitliche und regionale Entwicklungen ebenso wie offensichtliche Präferenzen von antiken Verfassern und Auftraggebern prägen die enorme Vielfalt der Carmina Latina Epigraphica. In der römischen Republik und Kaiserzeit dominieren Grabinschriften in Versmaß, seit der Spätantike werden offensichtlich auch andere Textgruppen zunehmend attraktiver. In Republik und Spätantike waren solche eingeschriebenen Gedichte mit oder ohne Prosa-Rahmung eher ein Elitenphänomen, wohingegen die Epigramme in der Kaiserzeit eine populäre Textgruppe für breite Bevölkerungsschichten waren. Im Band werden verschiedene Aspekte von Text-Entwicklungen durch die Jahrhunderte ebenso untersucht wie regionale Veränderungen und Wechselwirkungen von Texten und ihren Objektträgern. Oft genug lassen sich aber einzelne dieser Gedichte der Einordnung in vermeintlich regionale und zeitlich vorherrschende 'epigraphic habits' nicht einordnen. Auch für solch singuläre, sehr individuell gestaltete Inschriften werden mögliche Kontextualisierung aufgezeigt, vor allem durch Verbindungen zu anderen Textgattungen und Traditionen. Mit diesem Band wird daher das die Editionen und Analysen zumeist dominierende regionale Prinzip für die Carmina Latina Epigraphica auf die Probe gestellt

    En un siècle marqué par d'incessantes querelles théologiques et d'innombrables conflits armés, auxquels s'ajoutent des tensions entre l'Église, l'État et le parti des " Philosophes ", les correspondances constituent un lieu privilégié pour observer les mécanismes de surveillance. De fait, parmi les lettrées du dix-huitième siècle, la communication épistolaire s'inscrit au cœur de la vie quotidienne. Familière avec cette surveillance, l'élite des Lumières s'amuse d'ailleurs souvent des missives décachetées, quand elle ne se moque pas directement des indiscrets, les enjoignant même à poursuivre leur lecture. Documents à la fois publics et privés, littéralement situées au carrefour de toutes les formes d'activités, ces lettres sont parfois détruites, perdues ou oubliées. Alors que certaines demeurent à jamais scellées ou muettes, d'autres font partie du patrimoine littéraire européen. Que ce soit dans des lettres amicales, des correspondances diplomatiques ou dans des rapports de police, on dissimule et (se) surveille. Aussi les huit articles qui composent ce volume proposent-ils une traversée épistolaire du dix-huitième siècle européen en s'intéressant à des personnages oubliés ou célèbres, voire à des inconnus, qui tous ont dû écrire leurs correspondances en surveillant ou en se sachant épiés

The volume is divided into six parts that present current research on language, literature, and style as well as newer approaches and perspectives in dealing with sources and terminologies. Aspects such as conquest, administration, and financing of provinces are found as well as problems of endowments and the circulation of goods in the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire. Another main topic is dedicated to minorities and their role and situation in various provinces and cities of the Ottoman Empire, as represented by various sources. But also topics like conversion, morality and control are illuminated. Finally, the volume provides an insight into the late Ottoman and early republican period, in which some previously unpublished sources (such as travel letters, memoirs) are presented and (re)discussed.     "This book is dedicated to Claudia Römer and brings together 33 contributions spanning a period from the 15th to the 20th century and covering the wide range of topics with which the honouree is engaged. The volume is divided into six parts that present current research on language, literature, and style as well as newer approaches and perspectives in dealing with sources and terminologies. Aspects such as conquest, administration, and financing of provinces are found as well as problems of endowments and the circulation of goods in the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire. Another main topic is dedicated to minorities and their role and situation in various provinces and cities of the Ottoman Empire, as represented by various sources. But also topics like conversion, morality and control are illuminated. Finally, the volume provides an insight into the late Ottoman and early republican period, in which some previously unpublished sources (such as travel letters, memoirs) are presented and (re)discussed. The book is not only aimed at scholars and students of the Ottoman Empire; the thematic range is also of interest to linguists, historians, and cultural historians"--
