    In de 5de eeuw v.Chr. schreef de Chinese generaal Sun Tzu zijn handboek 'The Art of War' over oorlogsvoering en strategieën voor conflictbeheersing. Tegenwoordig worden zijn opvattingen nog vaak gebruikt in het bedrijfsleven. Hoewel zijn geschriften handelen over oorlog voeren, blijft zijn eerste uitgangspunt steeds het voorkomen van een gewelddadig conflict. Want conflicten en tegenstrijdige meningen hoeven niet problematisch te zijn, conflicten beslechten met geweld wel.0"Honderd overwinningen halen in honderd slagen is niet de hoogste uitmuntendheid; het leger van de vijand onderwerpen zonder strijd is de hoogste uitmuntendheid." - Sun Tzu in 'The Art of War'.0'Door de oorlog getekend' toont hoe ook kunst als aanklacht tegen oorlog wordt ingezet. Kunstenaars uit verschillende tijden - van Otto Dix tot Pablo Picasso, van Francisco Goya tot Max Beckmann en Frans Masereel - verbeelden oorlog in al zijn vormen. De contexten zijn verschillend in inzet, schaalgrootte en aanleiding, maar het resultaat van geweld is gelijk: dood, verminking, vernieling,ontwrichte samenlevingen en rouw. Elke oorlog is anders, maar geweld vraagt steeds dezelfde offers.0Met bijdragen van onder anderen Herman Van Rompuy, professor Frank van Vree, Peter Verlinden, Marie Bamutese, Jean Paul Van Bendegem en professor Luc De Vos.
