    With their joint announcement about the desire to resume peace talks, Colombia’s new president and the country’s second-largest guerrilla group, the ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional), have sent a clear political signal. The pacification of the ELN is to take place under the aegis of a “leftist” government and be accompanied by a comprehensive and ambitious reform project. This is a renewed attempt to end the civil war following the conclusion of a peace agreement with the FARC rebels in 2016. However, the agreement with the FARC can serve as a blueprint only to a limited extent, not just because of the different historical origins of the two guerrilla groups but also owing to the strongly decentralized internal structure of the ELN. The issues of a cease­fire and the release of prisoners - prerequisites for possible peace talks - remain unresolved. Lengthy negotiations lie ahead, and the involvement of Colombian civil society is essential as central questions about the country’s future must be clarified.

    Since the turn of the millennium, the African continent has been extremely active in producing African futures. These are part of the multiple non-western modernities existing simultaneously; modernities of revolution, reform, or restitution. This contribution adds to the debate by analysing four recent concepts along four axes: the representation of time and space, the initiators behind those four concepts, and the concepts’ social inclusiveness. The paper first discusses the idea of the “African Renaissance,” which has been proposed as official government policy in South Africa and has given shape to Pan-African political bodies. Second, “Afrotopia” is a term coined by the Senegalese economist Felwine Sarr that emphasises identity politics. Third, “Afropolitanism” proposes an “African-style” modernity as seen in the works of Achille Mbembe and Sarah Nuttall and is also likened to John and Jean Comaroff's writings on “Afromodernity.” Finally, “Afrofuturism” emerged in relation to science fiction literature and digital visual arts and uses the virtual sphere to address an international audience. Der afrikanische Kontinent entwickelt seit der Jahrtausendwende äußerst aktiv Zukunftsentwürfe. Diese sind Teil der vielfältigen nicht-westlichen Modernitäten, welche nebeneinander existieren und sich durch Revolution, Reform oder Restitution auszeichnen. Dieser Beitrag trägt einen Vergleich von vier neueren Zukunftskonzepten entlang von vier Achsen zur Debatte bei: die Darstellung von Zeit und Raum, die Impulsgeber der jeweiligen Konzepte und die soziale Inklusivität des Konzepts. Der Beitrag erörtert zunächst die Idee der “afrikanischen Renaissance,” die in Südafrika als offizielle Regierungspolitik vorgeschlagen wurde und panafrikanischen politischen Gremien Gestalt verlieh. Zweitens prägte der senegalesische Ökonom Felwine Sarr den Begriff “Afrotopia,” der die Identitätspolitik betont. Drittens schlägt “Afropolitanism” eine Modernität im afrikanischen Stil vor, wie sie in den Werken von Achille Mbembe und Sarah Nuttall zu finden ist, und ähnlich in Schriften von John und Jean Comaroff zur “Afromodernität” konzeptualisiert wird. Schließlich entstand der “Afrofuturismus” im Zusammenhang mit Science-Fiction-Literatur und digitaler visueller Kunst und nutzt die virtuelle Sphäre, um ein internationales Publikum anzusprechen.

    The future of the Yemen conflict will be decided about 120 kilometres east of the capital Sanaa, in the city of Marib. So far, the internationally recognised Yemeni gov­ernment, supported by Saudi Arabia, has been able to ward off a two-year offensive from the Houthi movement, which originates from the north of the country and is aiming to take hold of the eastern provincial capital. The Houthis have had the mili­tary advantage, but as of January 2022, are being pushed on the defensive by the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-backed Giants Brigade, which is advancing into the governorate of Marib from the south. Conceivable scenarios for the course of the conflict are: 1) ceasefire negotiations after a successful defence of Marib; 2) the fall of the provincial capital as the starting point of a shift of the conflict to the southern parts of the country; or 3) a negotiated division of the country with participation of the UAE and Iran. Against this backdrop, Germany and its European partners should support regional powers’ attempts at rapprochement and begin discussing new political per­spectives for the future of Yemen with civil society and parties to the conflict.

    Im Rahmen von performativen Zugängen zu sprachlichem Lernen erhalten der sich bewegende Körper, das eigene ästhetische Wahrnehmen, Fühlen, Handeln und Erleben oder auch das kreativ-spielerische Gestalten, Darstellen, Inszenieren von Sprache zentrale Bedeutung. In den letzten Jahren rücken diese Aspekte auch im Bereich des Erwerbs von Deutsch als Zweitsprache (DaZ) verstärkt in den Blick und man entwickelt bzw. adaptiert performative Ansätze für verschiedene Lehr-/Lernkontexte und Zielgruppen. Das Lehr- und Praxisbuch präsentiert auf 461 Seiten nach kognitionspsychologischer und spracherwerbstheoretischer Verortung eine Reihe performativ-orientierter didaktischer Ansätze und illustriert diese mit konkreten Unterrichtsbeispielen. Das Buch richtet sich an Lehramtsstudierende und Referendare, an DaF/DaZ-Studierende sowie an Sprach- und Fachdidaktiker:innen und Lehrkräfte. Es kann als Seminarlektüre im Rahmen der DaZ-Ausbildung und als Begleiter fachdidaktischer Übungen genutzt werden; es eignet sich aber auch für das Selbststudium und als Inspirationsquelle.

    With their joint announcement about the desire to resume peace talks, Colombia’s new president and the country’s second-largest guerrilla group, the ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional), have sent a clear political signal. The pacification of the ELN is to take place under the aegis of a “leftist” government and be accompanied by a comprehensive and ambitious reform project. This is a renewed attempt to end the civil war following the conclusion of a peace agreement with the FARC rebels in 2016. However, the agreement with the FARC can serve as a blueprint only to a limited extent, not just because of the different historical origins of the two guerrilla groups but also owing to the strongly decentralized internal structure of the ELN. The issues of a cease­fire and the release of prisoners - prerequisites for possible peace talks - remain unresolved. Lengthy negotiations lie ahead, and the involvement of Colombian civil society is essential as central questions about the country’s future must be clarified.

    Millions of Turkish voters are geared up for the twin (parliamentary and presidential) elections that are scheduled to take place in June 2023 at the latest. After nearly 20 years in power, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s rule may seem unassailable to many observers of Turkish politics. However, owing to the economic downturn and rifts in his ruling party, this will be the first election in which Erdoğan is not the clear favourite. Six opposition parties of different ideological origins have come together to pick a joint presidential candidate to stand against Erdoğan and to offer a common platform for restoring parliamentary democracy. Although the opposition alliance has reasonable chances of defeating Erdoğan’s ruling bloc, their victory would not guarantee a smooth process of transition to parliamentary democracy. If the opposition can defeat Erdoğan, the new government would need to undertake the arduous tasks of establishing a meritocratic bureaucracy, restructuring Turkey’s diplomatic course and economic policy, and switching back to parliamentary rule. Due to the opposition alliance’s diverse composition, accomplishing these goals may be as difficult as winning the elections.
