    Among Cultures: The Challenge of Communication, Third Edition explores intercultural communication and the relationship between communication and culture, using narrative as a common and compelling thread for studying intercultural interactions. Anchored in the position that people make sense of their worlds through choosing and telling narratives to themselves and others, this text is replete with narratives and stories. Chapters address key aspects of intercultural communication, including verbal and nonverbal communication; stereotypes and bias; identity; conflict; diversity; and ethics. Using an interpretive approach to intercultural communication, the text helps students understand that although a person may appear different, his/her common sense is quite reasonable within a particular interpretive context. Resources are included to help students understand and explain the reasonableness of other cultural systems. The text includes activities for students to complete while reading, including self-assessments and nonverbal self-knowledge tests. Reflection questions within and at the end of each chapter promote thinking and discussion on each topic. With its unique approach to studying intercultural communication via real-life narratives, this text facilitates a deep understanding of the cultural aspects of communication. In providing the narratives of others, it encourages students to tell their own stories and build a strong foundation for communicating across cultures. New to the Third Edition: New chapter—"What Role Does Culture Play in Contemporary Contexts?"—explores intercultural communication as it relates to the environment, health, and technology.     Remixing multilingualism" is conceptualised in this book as engaging in the linguistic act of using, combining and manipulating multilingual forms. It is about creating new ways of 'doing' multilingualism through cultural acts and identities and involving a process that invokes bricolage. This book is an ethnographic study of multilingual remixing achieved by highly multilingual participants in the local Hip Hop culture of Cape Town. In globalised societies today previously marginalized speakers are carving out new and innovating spaces to put on display their voices and identities through the creative use of multilingualism. This book contributes to the development of new conceptual insights and theoretical developments on multilingualism in the global South by applying the notions of stylization, performance, performativity, entextualisation and enregisterment. This takes place through interviews, performance analysis and interactional analysis, showing how young multilingual speakers' stage different personae, styles, registers and language varieties

La langue n'est pas pur logos ; elle est habitée par le mythos, tout comme le conscient est habité par l'inconscient ; les frontières sont plus de l'ordre du second que du premier ; mais ne nous trompons pas avec les frontières : qu'elles ne soient pas n'importe comment et n'importe où ! Nature et lieu, géopolitique et topologie. Comment alors penser ces frontières des langues ?     This monograph highlights the significance of narrative tools for the analysis of language behaviour in various social situations and considers narrativity as a natural human way of making sense. Through narration we develop unique modes of comprehending reality and dealing with its complicated structure. The analysis elaborates narrating as a dialogical experience and highlights its important role in coaching and in personalised education. Additionally it throws light on the modern city narrative as a literary genre. Lastly the authors develop the aspects of narrativity in the act of conversion in evangelical churches as an instance of identity enactment explaining the modern trends in preaching in charismatic evangelical churches.

The authors identify the opportunities and difficulties involved in interdisciplinary engagement, and challenge current claims about where the greatest difficulties are to be found. The first part of the book introduces interdisciplinarity and identifies key issues that influence our understanding of it. The second part of the book presents the findings of research based on over 50 hours of recording and nearly 450,000 words of transcript drawn from a number of university faculties, concluding with a discussion of how this might inform interdisciplinary practice. The book is accessible to the non-specialist reader while also being of interest to social scientists working in professional and academic communication. Seongsook Choi is a lecturer in the Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, UK. Her current research focuses on interdisciplinary talk, the development of analytical tools for mapping interactional patterns, and representing these dynamically in visual formats. Keith Richards worked at the Universities of Aston and Warwick, UK, but is now retired.
