Im Mythos des Gesetzlosen finden gesellschaftliche Diskurse um Recht und Gerechtigkeit, um Herrschaft und Widerstand, um Souveränität und Legitimität einen narrativen Ausdruck. Erzählungen, in denen Räuber, Piraten oder Banditen zu Rebellen und schließlich zu Helden avancieren, gestalten die Widersprüche innerhalb rechtlich geordneter Gesellschaften literarisch. Rechtsordnungen besitzen einen sozialen und einen territorialen Aspekt. In der narrativen Darstellung historischer Raumkonstellationen wird die Vorstellung vom Recht als konstituierendem gesellschaftlichem Faktor anschaulich. Die vorliegende Studie eröffnet eine neue Perspektive auf die Bedeutung der heroischen Gesetzlosigkeit als einem Phänomen der sozialen und räumlichen Transgression This book attends to three outlaw heroes from England, Germany, and North America. Robin Hood, Klaus Stoertebeker, and Jesse James still fascinate people today. The myth of the outlaw expresses social discourses about law and justice, government and resistance, and sovereignty and legitimacy. Stories in which robbers, pirates, or bandits advance to become rebels and heroes give literary form to the contradictions of the legal order. Law has a social and spatial aspect. The depiction of historio-spatial constellations in the narratives reveals how law is imagined as a social relation. This study of mythic spaces of lawlessness opens up a new perspective on the meaning of heroic outlawry as a phenomenon of social and spatial transgression

    Ob Occupy Wall Street, Stuttgart 21 oder der Arabische Frühling: Proteste sind historisch gewachsene Ausprägungen sozialer Auflehnungsbewegungen, die auf den gesellschaftlichen Wandel anpassungsfähig reagieren. Aus dieser Anpassungsfähigkeit und der sich daraus ableitenden Wandlung der Protestformen resultiert eine gewisse definitorische Unschärfe des Protestbegriffs. Der vorliegende Band erfasst Protestbewegungen in ihrer Vielfältigkeit und Komplexität und untersucht sie als diskursive und folglich kulturell und historisch bedingte Formen aufbegehrenden gesellschaftlichen Handelns. Vorgestellt werden unterschiedliche Protestbewegungen vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart, deren geschichtlicher Wandel sowie systematische Beschreibungen der Quellen, Strukturen, Formen, Akteure, Narrative, Rhetoriken, Räume und Medien des Protests. Aus der Zusammenschau der versammelten Einzelanalysen wird ersichtlich, dass sich neuere Protestformen aufgrund der sozialen, politischen und ökonomischen Beschleunigungsprozesse immer mehr durch Kurzfristigkeit und Hybridität auszeichnen, sodass ihre wissenschaftliche Beschreibbarkeit immer neue Klassifikations- und Differenzierungsstrategien und -methoden erfordert

No two authorities seem able to agree as to his origins, antecedents, or even whether or not he was a historical personage or a mythical figure. Historians, both amateur and professional, have for years been bringing out new books in which they claim to have found 'the real Robin Hood', but his identity remains clouded.     A controversial literary critic and commentator, Joseph Ritson (1752–1803) made his reputation identifying and exposing literary forgeries. His enduring legacy, however, stems from his interest in the legend of Robin Hood. The combination of his passion for collecting literary antiquities, particularly medieval ballad poetry, and his political convictions in support of republican government, drew him to the tale of the English outlaw. This two-volume work, first published in 1795, is an important collection of texts relating to the legend. Ritson's aim was to present all the known poems and songs, and his research was so thorough that very little further material has been found since. This work helped transform the perception of the Robin Hood tradition, encouraging its serious study. As well as a selection of texts, Volume 2 contains an appendix of shorter pieces, including some song lyrics with scores

    Ob Occupy Wall Street, Stuttgart 21 oder der Arabische Frühling: Proteste sind historisch gewachsene Ausprägungen sozialer Auflehnungsbewegungen, die auf den gesellschaftlichen Wandel anpassungsfähig reagieren. Aus dieser Anpassungsfähigkeit und der sich daraus ableitenden Wandlung der Protestformen resultiert eine gewisse definitorische Unschärfe des Protestbegriffs. Der vorliegende Band erfasst Protestbewegungen in ihrer Vielfältigkeit und Komplexität und untersucht sie als diskursive und folglich kulturell und historisch bedingte Formen aufbegehrenden gesellschaftlichen Handelns. Vorgestellt werden unterschiedliche Protestbewegungen vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart, deren geschichtlicher Wandel sowie systematische Beschreibungen der Quellen, Strukturen, Formen, Akteure, Narrative, Rhetoriken, Räume und Medien des Protests. Aus der Zusammenschau der versammelten Einzelanalysen wird ersichtlich, dass sich neuere Protestformen aufgrund der sozialen, politischen und ökonomischen Beschleunigungsprozesse immer mehr durch Kurzfristigkeit und Hybridität auszeichnen, sodass ihre wissenschaftliche Beschreibbarkeit immer neue Klassifikations- und Differenzierungsstrategien und -methoden erfordert.

Rächer der Entrechteten oder mörderische Agenten imperialer Großmächte? Räuber zur See oder Entrepreneure mit politischem Gestaltungsanspruch? Die Beiträge dieses Bandes beschränken sich nicht nur auf die Geschichte der Seeräuber von der Antike bis heute, sondern nehmen auch die literarische, mythologische und filmische Bearbeitung der Piraterie in den Blick. Sie achten zudem auf den Rollenwechsel der Seeräuber – zwischen Held und Pirat in der Odyssee, zwischen Pirat und Söldner in Byzanz oder Venedig, zwischen Kaperfahrer mit staatlicher Erlaubnis und freiem Pirat in der frühneuzeitlichen Karibik.
