    The transformation from traditional to integrated production systems reflects the evolvement of the industrial sector. The fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0 for short, is a technological evolutionary stage that emphasizes the importance of logistics in the overall production process. In addition to fulfilling the key requirements of customer orientation, satisfaction and flexibility, it is also vitally important, if not critical, to recognize the wider holistic factors that affect organizations' ability to operate, perform and deliver. To support the organizational holistic goals of cost savings and efficiency, and taking into consideration the transformation of the organization's principles with logistics and production, then this is facilitated through a process oriented adjustment strategy. Publication of this research paper marks the midpoint of the efficiency measurement as an evaluation criterion for the production concept In-Line with the help of a Data Envelopment Analysis. To measure efficiencies, various methods in literature help to assess the relationship between input and output factors. In addition to traditional comparisons of business key performance indicators, the Data Envelopment Analysis is a modern method based on production functions with multiple input and output factors. Although the efficiency analysis was originally developed for the public non-profit sector, various amendments of the DEA currently exist, in order to adapt it for use in semi-public and private sectors. This present research paper applies the DEA in the indus-try sector and examines the efficiency improvement of the In-Line concept. Besides the efficiency measurement, a comprehensive description of the In-Line concept is provided, which, under the aspect of Industry 4.0, can be regarded as a preliminary stage for the reorganization of business processes within logistics and production.

    Digitalisierung ist mehr als nur ein Hype: kurze Innovationszyklen, der digital agierende Kunde sowie ein volatiles Wettbewerbsumfeld fordern von Unternehmen eine nie dagewesene Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit. Vor diesem Hintergrund identifiziert diese Dissertation auf Basis eines Mixed-Methods-Ansatzes – bestehend aus 18 Expertengesprächen und einer Online-Befragung mit 331 Unternehmensvertretern – erstens Veränderungstreiber und analysiert diese hinsichtlich ihrer Wechselwirkungen. Zweitens wird auf der empirischen Grundlage ein soziotechnischer Handlungsrahmen für die digitale Transformation abgeleitet, der wiederum drittens überprüft wird. Die Qualifikation der Mitarbeiter stellt sich als zentrales Handlungsfeld bei der digitalen Transformation in Wertschöpfungsnetzwerken heraus. Digitization is more than just a hype: short innovation cycles, the digitally oriented customer and a volatile competitive environment require companies to achieve an unprecedented speed of reaction. Based on a mixed methods approach – consisting of 18 expert interviews and an online survey with 331 company representatives – this dissertation first identifies drivers for change and analyzes them with regard to their interactions. Second, on the empirical basis, a socio-technical framework for digital transformation is derived, which third is tested. The qualification of the employees turns out to be a central field of action for the digital transformation in supply chains.

    Industrie 4.0 findet auch im Einkauf statt. Die zu beobachtenden Veränderungen auf der prozessualen, organisatorischen und technischen Ebene werden unter dem Begriff Einkauf 4.0 zusammengefasst. Zu diesem Thema wurden bereits einige wertvolle theoretische und empirische wissenschaftliche Arbeiten verfasst, allerdings noch nicht im Bereich der deutschen Versorgungsunternehmen. Diesem Sektor wird traditionell aufgrund der oft langen Planungszeiträume eine große Stabilität und Berechenbarkeit nachgesagt, und vor diesem Hintergrund wollten die Autoren untersuchen, wie sich Einkauf 4.0 gerade in solch einem Segment aktuell und perspektivisch gestaltet. Mit Hilfe einer qualitativen empirischen Erhebung wird dabei folgende Forschungsfrage beantwortet: "Welche Perspektive bietet der Einkauf 4.0 für die Beschaffungsprozesse und die Beschaffungsorganisation in deutschen Versorgungsunternehmen, und wie ist der aktuelle Umsetzungsstand?" Im Rahmen einer Abschlussarbeit wurden dazu zehn Expertinnen und Experten aus deutschen Versorgungsunternehmen befragt und die Ergebnisse mithilfe der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse ausgewertet. Insgesamt ergibt sich damit ein interessanter Einblick in die aktuellen und kommenden Umbrüche dieser Branche.

    This report examines the underlying economics of different types of digital technologies. It highlights what the new drivers of change are, why the dynamics with this latest round of technological change may be different, and what the distributional impacts may be within and across countries. It then examines the evidence for how different digital technologies are – or are not – contributing to competitiveness and opportunities for small and young firms, and firms in less developed areas, and what can be done about it. Europe faces a digital dilemma. European firms are particularly strong in operational technologies such as smart robotics and 3D printing. While this helps Europe's competitiveness, it also widens the divide between large and small firms, and leading and lagging regions. On the other hand, digital technologies, such as transactional technologies or matching platforms, have the greatest potential for market inclusion and convergence, but this is where Europe remains less competitive. The report lays out how Europe 4.0 is attainable. The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has highlighted the importance of the data economy — and raised the risks if the digital dilemma is not addressed. This report provides a framework, evidence and recommendations on how governments can respond. Europe has the chance to attain a dynamic and inclusive technologically enhanced future, it should take that chance
