    "With annual gross sales surpassing 100 billion U.S. dollars each of the last two years, the digital games industry may one day challenge theatrical-release movies as the highest-grossing entertainment media in the world. In their examination of the tremendous cultural influence of digital games, Daniel Reardon and David Wright analyze three companies that have shaped the industry: Bethesda, located in Rockville, Maryland; BioWare in Edmonton, Alberta, and CD Projekt Red in Warsaw, Poland. Each company has used social media and technical content in the games to promote players' belief that players control the companies' game narratives. The result has been at times explosive, as empowered players often attempted to co-op the creative processes of games through discussion board forum demands, fund-raising campaigns to persuade companies to change or add game content, and modifications ("modding") of the games through fan-created downloads. The result has changed the way we understand the interactive nature of digital games and the power of fan culture to shape those games"

    "Theme Park Fandom argues that serious study of theme parks and their adult fans has much to tell us about contemporary transmediality and convergence, themed and immersive spaces, and audience relationships with places of meaning. Considering the duopoly of Disney and Universal in Orlando, the book explores a range of theme park experiences including planning trips, meeting characters, eating and drinking, engaging in practices such as cosplay and re-enactment, and memorializing lost attractions. Highlighting key themes such as immersion, materiality, cultural distinctions, and self-identity, the book argues that theme parks are a crucial site for the exploration of transmediality and the development of paratexts. Proposing the key concepts of spatial transmedia and haptic fandom, the book offers analysis of the intersections between fandom, media texts, and merchandise, as well as fans' own affective and physical responses to visiting the parks."

    Im Zentrum der Arbeit "Deutschsprachige Star Trek-Fan Fiction. Genre, Motive, Kanäle" steht die Beschreibung von Textrezeption, Textproduktion und Textanalyse als Fanaktivität am Beispiel des kulturellen Phänomens "Star Trek". Im Sinne einer "active audience" konsumieren viele Fans nicht nur die vorhandenen Filme und Episoden; sie verwenden bestehende Figuren und Motive als Basis für neue Geschichten, die sogenannte "Fan Fiction". Die Textproduktion von Fans umfasst aber nicht nur belletristische Formen, sondern erstreckt sich auch auf Sachtexte, Einträge in Nachschlagewerken und Rezensionen. Fan Fiction selbst kann verschiedenste Formen annehmen: von kurzen "Drabbles" über virtuelle Staffeln bis hin zu Hörspielen und Fanfilmen. Auch bei Rollenspielen entsteht Text, der jedoch oft nicht dokumentiert wird. Fan Fiction wird über verschiedene Kanäle veröffentlicht, aber zunehmend online publiziert und rezipiert. Gedruckte Fanzines haben in den letzten Jahren stark an Verbreitung verloren. Bemerkenswert ist die Herausbildung von kanonisierten Bezeichnungen für bestimmte Textsorten, die sich unter anderem nach Länge, Art der Beziehung der Hauptfiguren und emotionaler Grundstimmung unterscheiden. Diese Begriffe finden praktische Anwendung bei der Klassifizierung und Beschlagwortung von Texten und Zeitschriften. Mit den Beta-Readern, die auf Texte vor ihrer Veröffentlichung Feedback geben, wurde eine Form von Peer-Review geschaffen. Im muttersprachlichen und fremdsprachlichen Unterricht wurde Fan Fiction erfolgreich eingesetzt, da sie bei der Lesewelt und dem Medienkonsum von Schülerinnen und Schülern ansetzt. Fanzines und Fan Fiction stellen Bibliotheken und Archive vor neue Aufgaben. In den Interviews mit sieben Fans – darunter ProduzentInnen und RezipientInnen von Fan Fiction und die Betreiberin eines Fan Fiction-Archivs – werden diese Themen verdeutlicht.

Until now, virtually no sustained examination of race-and racism-in transnational fan cultures has taken place, a lack that is especially ironic since current fan spaces have never been more vocal about debating issues of privilege and discrimination. Pande's study challenges dominant ideas of who fans are and how these complex transnational/cultural spaces function, expanding the scope of the field significantly. The study's theoretical mapping, in a departure from conventional fandom studies, positions media fandom as a postcolonial cyberspace.     Die Verlagerung ästhetisch-produktiver Tätigkeiten von Heranwachsenden in virtuelle Räume im Web 2.0 verdeutlicht, dass sich seit einigen Jahren ästhetische Sozialisations- und Kommunikationsprozesse zunehmend der Aufmerksamkeit und der Kontrolle von Eltern und Erziehenden entziehen. Es handelt sich bei diesen Foren direkt um Parallelwelten.Im Vordergrund der Untersuchung stehen die in den Foren vorgestellten ästhetisch-produktiven Aktivitäten von Mädchen ab einem Alter von acht Jahren mit Werken zu der kommerziell sehr erfolgreichen und weit verbreiteten Kreativserie "Topmodel", die im Jahr 2008 von der Depesche Vertrieb GmbH & Co. KG ins Leben gerufen wurde.Die Zeichnungen der Mädchen folgen durch konkrete Malvorlagen ein und demselben Schema und sind trotz individueller Einflüsse durch die Zeichnerinnen immer als "Topmodel"-Zeichnungen erkennbar. Die breite Produktpalette der Serie wirkt in verschiedene öffentliche wie private Lebensbereiche der Mädchen ein und nimmt damit direkten Einfluss auf ihr alltägliches Leben. Eva Capell widmet sich in ihrer Arbeit schwerpunktmäßig der Beschreibung und Darstellung des Fanart-Forums, der Analyse ausgewählter Werke im Dialog zu den vorgegebenen Produkten, den Kommunikationsstrukturen im "Topmodel"-Forum sowie einer empirischen Untersuchung zur Fragestellung, wie diese Faktoren in die ästhetische Sozialisation hineinwirken, sodass mit dieser Forschung auch ein Beitrag zu einem bisher kaum beachteten Bereich in der Genderforschung geleistet wird
