Le Dictionnaire complète les grands ouvrages d'histoire du livre auxquels l'équipe de chercheurs a d'ailleurs participé, soit l'Histoire de l'édition littéraire au Québec (3 vol., Fides) dirigée par J. Michon et l'Histoire du livre et de l'imprimé au Canada/History of the Book in Canada (3 vol., PUM/PUT) d'Y. Lamonde et P. Fleming. Le Dictionnaire comprend près de 400 notices consacrées à des individus et des instances qui ont œuvré dans le milieu du livre. Les notices présentent un contenu uniformisé, élaboré à partir d'un modèle prosopographique. Elles présentent les paramètres généraux (origines sociales, formation, statut civil, parcours professionnel à l'extérieur du milieu du livre), l'analyse du parcours professionnel dans le milieu du livre (occupation, propriété d'entreprises, réalisations), la mise en relief de la spécificité du cas et enfin cinq références incontournables. Une longue introduction présente l'évolution des différents métiers du livre et une analyse du corpus qui permet de faire ressortir les caractéristiques des gens du livre. Le Dictionnaire comporte également des index et une importante bibliographie."--

    This book is the first comprehensive examination of commercial drama as a reading genre in early modern England. Taking as its focus pre-Restoration printed drama's most common format, the single-play quarto playbook, it interrogates what the form and content of these playbooks can tell us about who their earliest readers were, why they might have wanted to read contemporary commercial drama, and how they responded to the printed versions of plays that had initially been performed in the playhouses of early modern London. Focusing on professional plays printed in quarto between 1584 and 1660, the book juxtaposes the implications of material and paratextual evidence with analysis of historical traces of playreading in extant playbooks and manuscript commonplace books. In doing so, it presents more detailed and nuanced conclusions than have previously been enabled by studies focused on works by one author or on a single type of evidence.
