    Abstract: Against the backdrop of the current debate revolving around the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, dealing with ethnological collections in science and society has become a controversial subject, as the history of ethnological museums is inseparably linked to Eurocentrism and colonialism. Criticism of ethnological museums is not new, but it has not yet translated into the exhibition practice accordingly - dominant narratives have consistently been reproduced. Post-colonial criticism of museums is not only levelled against the appropriation and submission of bodies and objects of other cultures, but already starts at the epistemological concepts on which the museum as an institution is founded. How can museums encounter this past? Can the transformation of a colonial institution into a space for post-colonial discourse be successful? What are the challenges at the interface of ethnological museums and art?

    Abstract: Vor dem Hintergrund der aktuellen Debatte um das Humboldt Forum in Berlin wurde der Umgang mit ethnologischen Sammlungen in Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft zu einem umstrittenen Thema. Denn die Geschichte ethnologischer Museen ist untrennbar mit dem Eurozentrismus und Kolonialismus verbunden. Die Kritik an ethnologischen Museen ist nicht neu, doch sie fand in der Museums- und Ausstellungspraxis bislang nicht den entsprechenden Niederschlag - dominante Narrative wurden immer wieder aufs Neue reproduziert. Die postkoloniale Kritik an den Museen setzt nicht erst bei der Aneignung und Unterwerfung von Körpern und Objekten fremder Kulturen an, sondern bereits bei den epistemologischen Konzepten, auf denen die Institution Museum gründet. Wie also können Museen dieser Vergangenheit begegnen? Kann die Umwandlung einer kolonialen Einrichtung in einen Raum postkolonialer Auseinandersetzungen gelingen?     Abstract: Against the backdrop of the current debate revolving around the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, dealing with ethnological collections in science and society has become a controversial subject, as the history of ethnological museums is inseparably linked to Eurocentrism and colonialism. Criticism of ethnological museums is not new, but it has not yet translated into the exhibition practice accordingly - dominant narratives have consistently been reproduced. Post-colonial criticism of museums is not only levelled against the appropriation and submission of bodies and objects of other cultures, but already starts at the epistemological concepts on which the museum as an institution is founded.     Abstract: Avatars are growing in popularity and present in many interfaces used for computer-mediated communication (CMC) including social media, e-commerce, and education. Communication researchers have been investigating avatars for over twenty years, and an examination of this literature reveals similarities but also notable discrepancies in conceptual definitions. The goal of this review is to provide a general overview of current debates, methodological approaches, and trends in findings. Our review synthesizes previous research in four areas. First, we examine how scholars have conceptualized the term “avatar,” identify similarities and differences across these definitions, and recommend that scholars use the term consistently. Next, we review theoretical perspectives relevant to avatar perception (e.g., the computers as social actors framework).     Abstract: Vor dem Hintergrund der aktuellen Debatte um das Humboldt Forum in Berlin wurde der Umgang mit ethnologischen Sammlungen in Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft zu einem umstrittenen Thema. Ein Ausweg aus der Krise der Repräsentation wird in der Zusammenarbeit mit zeitgenössischen Künstlern und Künstlerinnen gesehen. Postkoloniale künstlerische Interventionen, Artist in Residence-Programme oder Artistic Research-Projekte können einen wertvollen Beitrag leisten, in kollaborativen Prozessen zwischen Wissenschaft und Kunst die Institution zu hinterfragen. Aber tiefgreifende strukturelle Veränderungen müssen die Museen selbst leisten. Denn jenseits des kolonialen Projekts macht es keinen Sinn, die Menschen nach 'Ethnien' und Kulturen einzuteilen. Es gilt, sich jedem gesellschaftlichen Gefüge gleichermaßen unter Berücksichtigung der politischen, ökonomischen, sozialen und kulturellen Verhältnisse aus einer historischen und gegenwärtigen Perspektive anzunähern.     Abstract: This article explores the emotional dimensions of political representation by British Members of Parliament (MP) in relation to child protection. The public speech acts and first-hand accounts of three MPs are drawn upon as examples. These highlight different forms of emotional interest representation that arise following the death of a local child from severe abuse or neglect and in response to anxieties in the community about risk. Firstly, I examine the role of the MP in seeking to embody their constituency in the public expression of collective emotional responses and to defend it from feelings of guilt and shame. Personal feelings of guilt and a consciousness of the politician's role in attributing blame are then considered. Thirdly, I explore the role of the MP as trusted envoy for anxieties about risk to individual children within their constituencies. The article draws on Berezin's concept of the secure state and Hochschild's notion of politicians as feeling legislators, an
