    Abstract: Attitudes towards migrants and refugees are created and reflected at the level of public policies, as well as in local communities which cultivate traditional approaches and a specific worldview. The refugee crisis in Europe in the mid-2010s showed how public opinion translated into voting behaviour and became a source of strength for nationalist anti-immigrant movements and parties across the continent. East-Central Europe was no exception, regardless of the absence of a long-term, massive inflow of refugees. Nevertheless, the migration crisis created a new political narrative which exploited deeply rooted resentments, complexes, and fears. This article aims to analyse the official policy responses to the refugee crisis in the four East-Central European countries: Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, which together constitute the so-called Visegrad Four.     Abstract: Der Syrienkonflikt begegnet uns seit seinen Anfängen vor allem in Videos, die zunächst mit Smartphones, später auch mit hochauflösenden Actionkameras aufgenommen wurden. Verbreitet über das Internet werden diese Videos von einer internationalen Berichterstattung, aber auch von Kunst- und Filmschaffenden aufgegriffen. Die Autorin entwickelt in diesem Kontext eine Forschungsperspektive, die auf innovative Weise Videos der Gewalt und des Todes für einen wissenschaftlichen Zugriff erschließbar und damit verbundene aktivistische, jihadistische und rechtspopulistische Praktiken im Spannungsfeld von Ästhetisierung und Politisierung kritisierbar macht

    Abstract: The development of mankind in the present is characterized by transformation trends in the technological, economic, and social spheres. These trends impact the political environment as well. The challenges of the economic crisis, the migration processes revitalize the development of populism. The present paper is focused on political populism and its dimensions in Bulgaria. The political environment in the country is characterized by almost permanent merge of political entities, which gradually escalates the use of populist approaches, styles and rhetoric. The paper is structured in three methodologically interconnected parts, which respectively present: an overview of the process of politicization of the media and the mediatization of politics; a comparative study of the dimensions of populism in Bulgaria; a discussion on the connection between populism and the media, including a content analysis study conducted during the local elections of 2015

    Abstract: "What can be done with life stories?" This question was posed by Daniel Bertaux (1981) in the introduction to his "Biography and Society". At that time, research interest in life stories was largely concerned with using them as sources of information about a reality existing outside the text. Meanwhile, however, especially in West Germany, this question has taken on another meaning: the life story itself, seen as a socical construct in its own right, has increasingly become the focus of socialsientific research. Empirically founded concepts and programmatic outlines of biographical theory have been put up for discussion by sociologists like Martin Kohli, Fritz Schütze, and Wolfram Fischer-Rosenthal to name a few. Methodology and methods of reconstructing life histories out of oral biographical presentations have been developed continously; the method of obtaining narrative interviews as presented by Fritz Schütze (1977; 1983) is meanwhile established in sociological methods.     Abstract: Mit der politischen Transformation von 1989 verändert sich in Polen auch die wissenschaftliche Landschaft. Die verstärkte Integration westlicher Theorien und ein soziopolitischer Backlash in Geschlechterfragen bewirken ein steigendes Interesse an feministischen Ansätzen. Die polnische Literaturwissenschaft nimmt dabei eine führende Rolle in der Anwendung feministischer Theorien im lokalen Kontext ein. Im vorliegenden Artikel wird nach der Einbettung dieser Forschung in die polnischen postsozialistischen Diskursfelder gefragt. Dabei geht es insbesondere um die Auslotung des engen diskursiven Raums, der sich in der polnischen Gesellschaft zwischen konservativ-patriotischen Narrativen, dem Anspruch auf Fortschritt und der Verhandlung der Vergangenheit eröffnet. Hier sind in den polonistischen Beispielen Strategien sowohl der Assimilation wie auch der Subversion erkennbar
