    Postkoloniale Studien zählen aktuell zu den einflussreichsten kritischen Interventionen, was angesichts der massiven Effekte des Kolonialismus nicht verwundern kann. Postkoloniale Theorie zielt darauf ab, die verschiedenen Ebenen kolonialer Begegnungen zu analysieren und dabei die sozio-historischen Interdependenzen und Verflechtungen zwischen den Ländern des »Südens« und des »Nordens« herauszuarbeiten. Diese Einführung erschließt das weite Feld postkolonialer Theoriebildung über eine kritische Debatte der Schriften der drei prominentesten postkolonialen Stimmen – Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak und Homi Bhabha. Die aktualisierte dritte Auflage unterzieht insbesondere die neuen Schriften Spivaks und Bhabhas einer kritischen Würdigung, setzt sich aber auch mit den gegenwärtigen Diskussionen um Globalisierung, Religion, Menschenrechte und Dekolonisierung auseinander.

Postkoloniale Theorie zielt darauf ab, die verschiedenen Ebenen kolonialer Begegnungen zu analysieren und dabei die sozio-historischen Interdependenzen und Verflechtungen zwischen den Ländern des »Südens« und des »Nordens« herauszuarbeiten. Diese Einführung erschließt das weite Feld postkolonialer Theoriebildung über eine kritische Debatte der Schriften der drei prominentesten postkolonialen Stimmen – Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak und Homi Bhabha. Die aktualisierte dritte Auflage unterzieht insbesondere die neuen Schriften Spivaks und Bhabhas einer kritischen Würdigung, setzt sich aber auch mit den gegenwärtigen Diskussionen um Globalisierung, Religion, Menschenrechte und Dekolonisierung auseinander.

Dafür treten die klassischen, kritischen Texte von Adorno und Horkheimer in einen Dialog mit dem Feld der Black Studies und Denker:innen wie Saidiya Hartman, Fred Moten und Denise Ferreira da Silva. Diese beiden intellektuellen Traditionen verbindet die radikale Kritik an der kapitalistischen und kolonialen Einrichtung der Welt. Die Gewaltgeschichte des europäischen Kolonialismus wird so als Affekttheorie bürgerlicher Subjektivität gelesen, ihr wird jeder Anschein von Unschuld genommen.

Anschaulich beschreibt er, wie die europäischen Gesellschaften die Kategorien Schwarz und weiß erfunden haben, um Kolonialismus, Versklavung und Ausbeutung zu rechtfertigen. Bis heute zementiert das weiße Denken Herrschaftsverhältnisse und Ungleichheit in der ganzen Welt. In vielen Beispielen, auch aus seiner persönlichen Erfahrung, zeigt Thuram, wie diese Deutungsmuster funktionieren und wie sie allgemeingültig werden konnten.Thuram bezieht sich immer wieder auf postkoloniale Diskurse, auf Frantz Fanon und Aimé Césaire, James Baldwin und Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison und Achille Mbembe. Sein Buch ist ein zutiefst humanistischer Appell, eingeschliffene Denkstrukturen zu hinterfragen, um so das Fundament für neue Solidaritäten zu legen. Nur dann können wir einander endlich wieder als Menschen begegnen - und die Krisen der Gegenwart gemeinsam bewältigen Diese Verhaltensweisen haben mich im Laufe meiner Karriere verfolgt. Immer wieder hieß es scherzhaft: "Lilian steht auf Schwarze Frauen." Man fragte mich sogar: "Magst du keine weißen Frauen? Bist du etwa Rassist?", als müsste ich mich in irgendeiner Form schuldig fühlen. Diese Art von Spott enthüllte eine erstaunliche Geringschätzung Schwarzer Frauen. Denn woher kam die amüsierte Überraschung meiner Teamkollegen? Von der Tatsache, dass ich mit meinem Einkommen eine weiße Frau für mich hätte einnehmen können und das also auch hätte tun sollen. Wer Geld hat, hat ein großes Haus, ein dickes Auto, eine goldene Uhr, und heiratet eine weiße Frau! Es ist genau so, wie Fanon sagt, die weiße Frau wird zu einer Trophäe, sie ist Teil der Weißwaschung, sie ist die weiße Maske, die Schwarze Männer tragen, die es zu etwas gebracht haben.
