First produced at Leicester's Haymarket Studio in 1995, 'Disappeared' is a tense flickering mystery thriller revolving around the unexplained exit of a woman from a Manhattan bar. The conversation between the woman and the peculiar man last seen with her is interwoven with the scenes which follow her disappearance: press conferences appealing for information; police interrogations of the man and his impassive reaction; the grief of the woman's mother. The elliptical structure endows Nagy's play with a rich tension, and the characters' need for escape gives it a final, elusive beauty.

London in the 1980s: a racist English football hooligan's relationship with his beloved pitbull terrier, Roy, gets him into trouble and changes his life. This short one-man show takes a satirical look at the working class and the similarities between the doggedness of a terrier and the doggedness of a violent lout, ultimately bringing out the loneliness and isolation beneath. 'Dog' premiered (under the title 'Pitbull') at the Warehouse Theatre, Croydon, in August 1993.

'Drag Act' is a proud and punchy monologue spoken by Rose, a fifty-two year old lesbian who cannot stand being told how she should dress. She was told by her mother that she should be more girly and feminine, and now she finds she is being told that she is letting down 'the Cause' by wearing trousers; she is sick of people thinking she's trying to be a man. So she is reluctant when her new younger girlfriend Sarah insists they go to a drag club for her birthday, until she realises that among the sequins and the feathers are people just like her. 'Drag Act' was first presented in 1993 at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool.

Charlie is that modern media phenomenon, an a list celebrity. Mobbed and adored by thousands, his face is everywhere, his name on everything from breakfast cereals to sports gear. He is truly the man who has it all. a beautiful wife, wonderful children, immense wealth and a magnificent home. Everyone is agreed that Charlie Conrad is undoubtedly the man to know and be associated with. What is far more difficult to pin down is what precisely it is that has made Charlie so famous. What has Charlie ever done? Indeed, has he ever done anything? and, in the distorting, mirrored world of celebrity hype, does anyone even care? 'Drowning on Dry Land' was premiered at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough in 2004.

It has been four years since Anna's fiancé, Andreas, was declared missing in action in the trenches of World War I. Therefore, she is understandably shocked when he reappears. Andreas discovers that in his absence, Anna has agreed to marry a man who became rich dealing in the black market during the war. This 'anti-romantic' love story is set against the Spartacist uprising of 1919, an attempt by the German Communist party to destabilise the Weimar government. 'Drums in the Night' was an immediate success when first performed in 1922, and went on to play all over Germany, but Brecht later admitted that he only wrote the play to make money.

The Royal Court Theatre produced Bond's surreal drama 'Early Morning' in 1967 despite a total ban by the Lord Chamberlain's office. It portrays a lesbian relationship between Queen Victoria and Florence Nightingale, the royal princes as Siamese twins, Disraeli and Prince Albert plotting a coup and the whole dramatis personae damned to a cannibalistic heaven after falling off Beachy Head.

It is London in the 1970s and Mike, Les and Sylv are fighting for their youth. Filling their days with sex and violence, they battle both the boredom they fear and the inevitable future they see in their parents, ultimately finding that history is doomed to repeat itself. 'East' offers a stylised and humorous examination of the violence and uncertainty of growing up in the east end of London. It premiered at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, in August 1975.

'Easy Access (For The Boys)' is a hard-hitting and uncomfortable play about victims of child abuse, and the challenging complexity of their relationships with their abusers. Michael and his friend Gary were both sexually abused by their fathers. Michael, a young prostitute, is making a video diary with Gary's help - an attempt to understand his past and the lies he has been told by his father and by himself. When his dad gets a new assistant and she and her young son move in with him, Michael's determination to protect the child leads him to revisit the past in more ominous detail. Mixing video footage and on-stage conversations, this is a story of blame, love and confusion, in which the sufferings of the past spill over into the rage of the present. 'Easy Access (For The Boys)' premiered at the Drill Hall in 1998.

In 'Easy Virtue', John Whittaker brings home his new wife for the first time. Some years older than her husband, Larita is a woman of class, beauty and experience, with a worldview, we find, in stark contrast to the single-minded morality of her new sisters- and mother-in-law. At first a tense truce reigns, but after a summer of boredom and mental lassitude, Larita is confronted with the facts of her past: scandalous according to her outraged in-laws; but mere truth to Larita, who refuses to be brow-beaten into hypocrisy by the priggish social system of her new relations. 'Easy Virtue' was first performed in New York in 1926.

Simon Armitage was commissioned in 1996 by the National Theatre in London to write 'Eclipse' for the BT National Connections Scheme for young people. The play was inspired by the real-life disappearance of a girl in Hebden Bridge, and set at the time of the 1999 solar eclipse in Cornwall. Six friends are interviewed by the police after the disappearance of Lucy Lime, the strange unnerving girl whom they met on the beach beneath the cliffs. Each in turn goes into an interview room and makes a statement about the version of events which is either the one being remembered or the one being created. Between the monologues there is a series of flashbacks to the day when the eclipse occurred and Lucy Lime appears and disappears. 'Eclipse' was first produced at the Cottesloe Theatre in London in 2004.

'Empty' is the story of an out-of-control teenage party, and a teenager who can't stop what is happening to his house and his life. Col would like to get off with Lily, and lets slip that his parents are away from the weekend on the last day of term. Instead of the quiet romantic evening he had hoped for, Col finds himself inadvertently hosting an `empty': a night of stolen booze, flooded bathrooms, sex and disappointment. Empty is fast, furious and raucous. The colloquial and dialogue-driven writing explores themes eminently relevant to teenagers: fitting in with demanding mates, desiring the undesirable and the unobtainable, and severely fractured relations with parents. Commissioned by the National Theatre of Scotland as an initiative to encourage younger audiences into the theatre, 'Empty' was first performed at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow in 2010.

'Fallen Angels' is a biting, hilarious comedy about the rivalry between two bored married women as they await the arrival of their exotic former lover. Dramatising female sexual desire and frustration, the play's first performances in 1925 outraged the critics, who proclaimed it to be shocking and obscene. But rather than insulting British womanhood (as its scandalised opponents asserted) Coward's sharp, entertaining script incisively draws attention to male sexual hypocrisy, while probing the vacuous lives of the play's privileged protagonists.

The Featherway family are gathered glumly in the drawing room in 1860 after their father's funeral. But as madeira is drunk, dressing-up boxes unearthed, songs sung, childhood memories re-discovered and the scandalous secrets of the will revealed, the gloom turns into what Coward described as 'a sly satire on Victorian hypocrisy'. 'Family Album' is a short play from the 'Tonight at 8.30' cycle, which was first produced at the Phoenix Theatre in London in 1936.

This play tells how a remote Chinese village comes to terms with Communism. Every revolution creates new words. The Chinese revolution created a whole new vocabulary in which a very important word is 'fanshen' which literally means 'to turn the body' or 'to turn over'. To hundreds of millions of landless and poor peasants it means to stand up, throw off the landlords' yoke, and gain land, stock, and houses. Moreover it means to enter a new world and this play is the story of how the peasants of Long Bow build a new world. 'Fanshen' was first performed in London by the Joint Stock Theatre Group at the ICA Terrace Theatre, London, in April 1975.

'Fathers and Sons' is set in rural Russia of the mid-nineteenth century. A brilliant, anarchic young medical student, Bazarov, arrives at the provincial family villa of his best friend, Arkady, for the summer vacation. He wants to despise the family for their imperturbable complacency, and bourgeois effeteness. But he is tormented by conflicting emotions, and takes desperate action, with tragic consequences. 'Fathers and Sons' opened at the Lyttelton Theatre, South Bank, London, in July 1987.

First produced by the Actors' Touring Company in 1997, 'Faust is dead' is about existence: virtual, metaphorical, philosophical and suddenly real. It is a dark, shocking and often brutally funny meditation on our world of virtual reality. Sacked from his university position for announcing the 'death of man' and 'the end of history' on the David Letterman show, the world's most famous philosopher decides to 'live a little'. He wakes in the company of a young man on the run from his father, and they embark on a tense and hedonistic journey across America, in which they discover that the translation from simulation to reality is a shocking one.

First performed in 1983 at the University of Essex Theatre, 'Fen' is a flinty, eerie play, haunted by the ghosts of starving field workers and claustrophobic in its condemnation of agrarian and social exploitation. Against the flat, bleak landscape of the Fenlands, men and women are cramped into bitterness by grinding labour and economic oppression. The play is composed of brief, fiercely resonant scenes, carving with powerful humanity the desolate lives of the village's men and women.

'Filumena' is De Filippo's best-known work and arguably his finest comedy-drama, drenched in Neapolitan atmosphere and full of entanglements at once cynical and romantic. In the heat of late-1940s Naples, Filumena Maraturano lies on her deathbed awaiting her marriage to Domenico Soriano, the man who has kept her as his mistress for twenty-seven years. But no sooner has the priest completed the ceremony than Filumena makes a miraculous recovery. As he reels in shock, Domenico discovers that this brilliant, iron-willed woman has a few more surprises for him. Is Filumena a simple, illiterate woman who wants to create a family for her children, or a ferine, opportunistic prostitute? Will Domenico, the selfish aged gigolo, learn to accept his responsibilities? Exploring themes of family, age and love, 'Filumena' exemplifies De Filippo's trademark moral optimism and warmth, coupled with unflinchingly astute and humorous observation of his characters.

Through a story of a poet and a novelist, Mercer studies the position of the political writer in post-war Europe. Marek, the celebrated Polish novelist, turns up outside Olivia's house. Olivia the poet, whose older husband was killed in the Second World War in the company of Marek, is writing an article about her guest, trying to pin down the politics and psychology buried beneath his constant drinking and womanizing. Their relationship is strained and sad, and swiftly intercut with footage of WWII air strikes, Olivia with her husband, and her husband's meeting with Marek. Mercer creates through the interaction of Olivia and Marek a bleak portrait of profound historical consciousness. 'Find Me' was first presented by BBC Television in December 1974.
