    Gottfried Semper (1803-1879) è una figura di grande rilievo dell'architettura e del rinnovamento delle arti applicate del XIX secolo. Richiamandosi alla concezione storico-evolutiva dell'opera d'arte, colloca le cosiddette arti minori a fondamento dell'architettura, "l'ultimogenita delle arti". Sostiene che è l'attività artigianale a interpretare dal basso la sensibilità artistica, il cambiamento. Questo scritto ripropone alcune pagine della sua "estetica pratica", in particolare quelle nelle quali, in un approccio interdisciplinare, si sofferma sul rapporto fra abbigliamento e architettura, due ambiti tra loro apparentemente estranei.
