ger: Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Eigenschaften von Englisch als Lingua Franca (ELF) in online Gemeinschaften und Chatrooms von Computerspielern. ELF findet in einer Vielzahl von Situationen im Internet Gebrauch, einschließlich synchroner Chatrooms. Diese Chatrooms werden von Personen europa- und weltweit genutzt, um miteinander zu kommunizieren. Diejenigen, die Videospiele spielen, nutzen Chatrooms um miteinander zu spielen, miteinander zu interagieren und schlussendlich virtuelle Gemeinschaften, sogenannte Communities of Practice, aufzubauen. Das Internet ist ein neues Medium, dessen Effekte auf den Sprachgebrauch noch nicht vollständig untersucht sind. Zusammen mit dem Umstand, dass in diesen Gemeinschaften Englisch als Lingua Franca verwendet wird, stellt sich die Frage nach den Eigenschaften des Sprachgebrauchs in einer solchen kommunikativen Situation.Diese Untersuchung gibt einen Überblick über die lexikogrammatischen Eigenschaften von ELF, die in einer Gemeinschaft von Computerspierlern aus ganz Europa beobachtet werden können. Es wird gezeigt, dass die User des Chatrooms lexikalisch kreativ sind und die Grenzen der Englischen Sprache ausloten. Die Gründe dafür sind die Verminderung von redundanten Ausdrücken, sprachliche Regularisierung und eine effiziente Ausdrucksweise. Ihr Ziel ist es, verstanden zu werden und nicht, perfektes Englisch zu gebrauchen. Ferner versuchen sie anhand ihres Sprachgebrauchs Zugehörigkeit zur Gemeinschaft ausdrücken.Um dies zu demonstrieren, wurden in dieser Diplomarbeit Nachrichten aus einem synchronen Chatroom untersucht, der etabliert wurde um das Spiel League of Legends zu diskutieren und gemeinsam zu spielen. Die Ergebnisse belegen, dass bisher nachgewiesene lexikogrammatische Eigenschaften von ELF im Sprachgebrauch dieser Gemeinschaft vorhanden sind. Überdies vereinen die Teilnehmer ELF Eigenschaften mit Konventionen der Videospielsprache und erschaffen damit eine einzigartige Form der Kommunikation. eng: This thesis deals with the features of English as a lingua franca (ELF) in online gaming communities and chatrooms. ELF is employed in a variety of Internet situations, including synchronous chatrooms. These chatrooms are used by people all over Europe and the world to communicate with each other. Among them, the people who play video games use chatrooms to play games together, interact with each other, and build virtual communities, so-called Communities of Practice. The Internet is a new medium, and its effects on language use are still being examined. Combined with the fact that English is used as a lingua franca in these communities, the question arises what the most salient features of language use in such a communicative situation are. This study gives an insight into which lexico-grammatical features of ELF can be observed within a community of video gamers from all over Europe. In general, it is shown that the users of chatrooms are lexically creative and bend the boundaries of the English language. They do so for reasons of redundancy reduction, regularization and economy of expression. Their aim is to be communicatively successful rather than to adhere to standard English. Furthermore, they strife to signal belonging to their virtual community through their language use. In this thesis, messages from a chatroom that has been established to discuss and play the game League of Legends together are examined. The findings show that attested lexico-grammatical ELF features are present in the language use of this community. Moreover, the participants combine ELF features and conventions of online and gaming-specific language, creating a unique form of communication.
