    "Architektur ist dann von Bedeutung", schreibt Paul Goldberger, "wenn sie uns Freude, Traurigkeit, Verwirrung und Ehrfurcht bringt und uns ein Dach über dem Kopf bietet." In Why Architecture Matters zeigt er uns, wie das funktioniert, anhand von Beispielen, die von einem kleinen Cottage in Cape Cod bis zu den riesigen, fließenden Präriehäusern von Frank Lloyd Wright, vom Lincoln Memorial bis zum Guggenheim Bilbao reichen. Die Kirche Sant'Ivo in Rom beschreibt er wortgewandt als ein Werk, das "die tiefsten Komplexitäten der menschlichen Vorstellungskraft umfasst".
