    HauptbeschreibungThis collection of articles comprises the first full-volume publication in Germany on teaching the New English Cultures and Literatures. It provides an exemplary survey of the challenges teachers of English are currently faced with - i.e. the opening towards the post-colonial and global world, and the growing diversity and pluralism in English-speaking cultures. In a globalizing world we are departing from former concepts of homogeneous cultures or nation-states and we are experiencing a fundamental shift away from Eurocentric worldviews. In the field of foreign language teaching and in cultural studies at university there has been a trend to go beyond previous concepts of teaching cultural awareness and intercultural competence, which adhered to the notion of national differences with the aim of instructing students in culturally adequate behaviour. The evolving concept of transculturality calls such national constructs into question and stresses the hybrid, interlocking interdependence of cultures in the era of globalization. The 14 case studies presented in this volume provide student-centred and innovative examples of how to teach the New Cultures and Literatures in the advanced EFL classroom. The focus is on a new ethics of cosmopolitanism in a new humanist spirit, which can further peaceful, productive and mutually enriching encounters between human beings from diverse backgrounds. All contributions are written in English and are addressed to university lecturers and students as well as to schoolteachers

    Der Sammelband 'Anglophone Literaturdidaktik - Zukunftsperspektiven für den Englischunterricht' verfolgt das Ziel, Lesern einen Einblick in verschiedene aktuelle Themenbereiche der anglophonen Literaturdidaktik zu ermöglichen. Das Hauptanliegen der Herausgeber beruht darauf, Expertenwissen verschiedener Literaturdidaktiker in einem Band zusammenzuführen und so zu strukturieren, dass es für verschiedene Zielgruppen gewinnbringend ist. Der Fokus ist darauf gerichtet, Studierenden, Wissenschaftlern, Referendaren und Lehrern innovative Ansätze im Bereich der anglophonen Literaturarbeit im Englischunterricht zu vermitteln. Der vorliegende Band ist ein grundlegender Beitrag zur Literaturdidaktik des Englischunterrichts, der sich den Themen und Herausforderungen der globalen Welt und ihren literarischen Herangehensweisen widmet, indem er gängige Konzepte des interkulturellen Lernens mit Aspekten des transkulturellen und globalen Lernens verknüpft.     This the first extensive study of the graphic narratives of Alison Bechdel, one of the most renowned and influential cartoonists and graphic novelists of our time. Over the last few decades, a wealth of publications on the growing medium of graphic fiction has become available. The contribution of this volume to this body of work is to explore Bechdel’s oeuvre from her earlier cartoons to her contemporary full-length graphic memoirs, particularly chronicling her formative years. Employing a number of case studies from Bechdel’s work, this publication shows how Bechdel plays with the medium-specific characteristics of graphic narratives in order to trace back the complex relationship with her parents and the development of her own gender identities.

    This book updates reader-response criticism as the foundation of aesthetic reading in the classroom by bringing it in line with cognitive theories in literary studies and linguistics. With the help of Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner‘s conceptual integration theory, which shares a surprising number of correspondences with Wolfgang Iser‘s The Act of Reading, it is possible to flesh out the latter‘s model of narrative meaning-making. In turn, this allows for a consistent reader-response approach to the medium of comics and auto/biography as one of its dominant genres. The fragmentation of comics narratives, but also of human lives and identities, requires such a theory that can explain how different perspectives and experiences can be blended into an experiential whole.

    Die Uraufführung von John Osbornes Look Back in Anger (1956) ging als tiefgreifende Zäsur in die britische Theater- und Dramengeschichte ein. Der Autor greift diesen vermeintlich dichotomen Übergang von drawing-room comedies der Vor- und Nachkriegszeit zu kitchen-sink dramas auf und untersucht anhand thematisch vielfältiger (dramatischer) Texte nach 1956 die individuellen Ich/Welt-Interaktionen der jugendlichen Protagonist*innen. Mit Hilfe eines umfassenden Methodengerüsts, das Dramen-, Bildungs- und Subjektivierungstheorien vereint, treten in den Textanalysen mannigfaltige, jugendliche Figurenkonzeptionen hervor, die sich vor allem sichtbar emotional in facettenreichen Entfaltungs- und Gestaltungsräumen positionieren. Das eigentliche Novum ab 1956 äußert sich so in Form einer expliziten Thematisierung von Selbst- und Fremdverhältnissen in jugendlichen Figurennetzen.
