It reviews the state of research and provides an overview of the aims and sources of the special issue, whose individual contributions take into account both national specificities and transnational contexts. Sandra Folie and Gianna Zocco emphasise the important role of comparative literature for the field of African European studies (and vice-versa). L'introduction porte sur des imaginations littéraires noires de l'Europe qui inversent ou compliquent le regard européen (néo )colonialiste sur "l'Autre africain". Elle examine l'état de la recherche et donne un aperçu des objectifs et des sources de ce numéro spécial, dont les contributions tiennent compte des spécificités nationales et des contextes transnationaux. Sandra Folie et Gianna Zocco soulignent le rôle important de la littérature comparée pour les études afro-européennes (et vice-versa).

It reviews the state of research and provides an overview of the aims and sources of the special issue, whose individual contributions take into account both national specificities and transnational contexts.     With this volume, the editors Katharina Edtstadler, Sandra Folie, and Gianna Zocco propose an extension of the traditional conception of imagology as a theory and method for studying the cultural construction and literary representation of national, usually European characters. Consisting of an instructive introduction and 21 articles, the book relates this sub-field of comparative literature to contemporary political developments and enriches it with new interdisciplinary, transnational, intersectional, and intermedial perspectives. The contributions offer [1] a reconsideration and update of the field's methods, genres, and theoretical frames; [2] trans-/post-national, migratory, and marginalized perspectives beyond the European nation-state; [3] insights into geopolitical dichotomies such as Orient/Occident; [4] intersectional approaches considering the entanglements of national images with notions of age, class, gender, sexuality, and ethnicity/race; [5] investigations of the role of national images in visual narratives and music.

    Februar ist Black History Month und damit der ideale Zeitpunkt, eine Blogserie über Berliner Orte zu beginnen, die wir - Gianna Zocco und Sandra Folie - im Zuge unseres neuen Forschungsprojekts "Schwarze Narrative transkultureller Aneignung" besuchen: Museen, Theater, Verlage, Archive usw., die für eine afroeuropäisch fokussierte Literatur- und Kulturforschung relevant sind und mit denen wir ins Gespräch kommen wollen. Die erste Exkursion führte mich zur Ausstellung BERLIN GLOBAL im Humboldt Forum, die zu zeigen versucht, "wie die Stadt und ihre Menschen mit der Welt verbunden sind". Sie beruft sich dabei auf eine vielstimmige, partizipative Konzeption und Umsetzung und beschäftigt sich intensiv mit dem Thema des Kolonialismus und seinen Nachwirkungen. Unter dem Titel "Sichtbar werden" führten eine externe afrodeutsche Expertin und eine Museumsvermittlerin im Gespräch - miteinander, aber auch mit der Gruppe - durch die Spuren Schwarzer Geschichte(n) in der Ausstellung. Welche Aspekte Schwarzer Geschichte(n) müssen aber in einer solchen Ausstellung erst im Rahmen einer speziellen Führung "sichtbar werden", fragte ich mich vorab. Und würde sich die Führung mit ihrem Anspruch der Sichtbarmachung als ein Akt des 'narrating back' und damit der partiellen oder temporären Aneignung eines (zu) weiß kodierten Raumes wie des Humboldt Forums begreifen lassen? Die Expertin, die den thematischen Fokus setzte, war Tanja-Bianca Schmidt, freie Kuratorin und Kunsthistorikerin an der TU Dresden mit den Schwerpunkten Black Identity, rassismuskritische Kunstgeschichte, Ästhetik der Migration und Postkoloniale Theorie. Zusätzlich zu ihrer beruflichen Expertise brachte sie ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen als Schwarze Deutsche mit ein. Sophie Eliot, die als Outreach-Spezialistin für das Stadtmuseum Berlin tätig ist und sich in der diskriminierungskritischen und -sensiblen Museumsarbeit verortet, war ihre Gesprächspartnerin.
