    Abstract: Dieser Artikel rückt die Frage nach dem Erkenntnisgewinn in den Vordergrund, der sich aus Jacques Derridas Prägung des Begriffs „différance“ – einem Kernstück seiner Sprachtheorie – ergibt. Seine doppelte Begründung dieser Kategorie, die er sowohl in referenztheoretischer wie in sprachstruktureller Hinsicht einführt, löst jedoch erhebliche Bedenken bezüglich ihrer jeweiligen Konsistenz aus. Es kommt hinzu, dass der Text, der die Notwendigkeit einer Unterscheidung zwischen „différence“ und „différance“ postuliert, in einen irreduziblen Widerspruch mündet. Denn sie lässt sich nur begründen vermittels einer Sprache, deren Geltungsansprüche Derrida im Namen der „différance“ zugleich substantiell in Frage stellt. Abstract: This article investigates the possibilities of knowledge gain resulting from Jacques Derrida’s coinage of the term “différance”, a centerpiece of his linguistic theory. His justification of this category is twofold: by introducing it from the standpoint of reference theory as well as from one of linguistic structure, he causes substantial doubts regarding the consistency of both arguments. In addition, the text, postulating the necessity to distinguish between “différence” and “différance”, leads to an irreducible contradiction. Since such a distinction can only be established using the very language whose claims of validity Derrida undermines substantially in the name of “différance”, the validity of the distinction itself is fragile/precarious/called into question.
