The referent of Ἰησοῦς in Heb 4.8 is traditionally understood to refer to Joshua son of Nun and frequently as a type referring to Jesus the Christ. I will argue against this reading and, instead, maintain that the referent of Ἰησοῦς is Jesus. Two lines of evidence are provided. First, analysis of the context demonstrates that the ‘Joshua’ option disrupts the author's argument, and that understanding the referent to be Jesus clarifies the argument. Second, the use of the nomina sacra abbreviations to refer to Jesus in the earliest manuscripts demonstrates that they interpreted Ἰησοῦς as referring to Jesus.

In Cain Byron demonstrates his interest in using the Bible to critique itself. He sticks close to the letter of his biblical source while engaging directly with traditional scriptural readings including the commonplace combination of the Devil with the serpent who tempts Eve—which Byron’s Lucifer rebuts himself. Byron engages more subtly with the typological equivalence frequently drawn between Abel and Christ, allowing the equivalence to stand but refusing to employ it to legitimize Christianity at the expense of Judaism. Byron thus seeks to rehabilitate two of Genesis’ most reviled characters as part of his search for a credible deliverer of his critique. Cain is juxtaposed with Lucifer and then with his sister Adah and brother Abel. These doublings within the play ultimately demonstrate that Cain is the figure most worthy of conveying Byron’s culminating critique of Christian hypocrisy at the play’s close.

Like any other science theology has a specific language which should express and clarify its essentials. Because most of the subjects of theological research are immeasurable scientific language has to operate using images and theoretical terms. Of course there are many methodologies of theological discourse. Among them one can find the methodology developed by Church Fathers especially those belonging to both West and East Syriac Traditions. Since their mentality was close to the Semitic roots they started to use in the theological treatises a very specific kind of explanation which could be well understood by the people of Middle East. It was a language of analogy. Thanks to the use of tangible images the Fathers invented a direct language which enabled them to explain truths that could not be clarified using ordinary language. In this paper we try to explain the importance of analogy in theological debate. The explanation will be supported by some examples taken from the writings of the prominent Syriac Fathers regarding the baptismal analogies and the typology “Mary - Eve”, seen as an example of the theological explanation of the divine truth. In the final part of this study we attempt to outline the accommodation of analogical language to contemporary theological discussion and liturgical practice.

Drawing on qualitative data from five focus group discussions (N=23), we developed a typology with migrant and refugee students from the Global South living in Vienna and studying at an Austrian university. Our findings indicate that different levels of support are required, depending on both structural and personal factors that respondents displayed. Structural factors include residence permit, field and level of study and conditions at the university (such as digital access, student representation, supervision by professors, workload). Personal factors involve respondents' social capital in terms of social network and friends/colleagues, in particular in the form of in/formal mentoring, language skills and other qualifications, personal resilience and aspirations, and mental health. Based on these factors, our typology differentiates between four different types of migrant and refugee students from the Global South, who differ with regard to the quality of their experience at university and their general well-being, which in turn impacts their study success.

The question of what leads people from a biographical perspective to go on pilgrimage has been a research object in the Department of Sociology at the FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany. This qualitative study examines the biographical constellations which have led to the decision to go on pilgrimage and therefore a typology of biographical motivations was developed. To achieve the aim of a typology, methods of qualitative research were used. The database consists of narrative interviews that were undertaken mostly with German pilgrims. The life stories of the pilgrims were analysed with Grounded Theory Methodology and made into a typology of five main types of pilgrims: balance pilgrim, crisis pilgrim, time-out pilgrim, transitional pilgrim, new start pilgrim.

This article offers a concise typology of spontaneous norms - i.e., norms that are formed or sustained through decentralized collective behavior in a community. The typology combines three criteria for identifying spontaneous norms: (i) implicit formation of (customary) rules, as opposed to explicit formation; (ii) enforcement through decentralized sanctioning actions, as opposed to enforcement by a special social agent; (iii) private interpretation of compliance with rules, as opposed to the presence of a public interpreter of compliance. The paper also suggests how identified types can be modeled game-theoretically as repeated games. It is argued that structural differences between various types of spontaneous norms can be best understood as differences in the sequence of play in a stage game. Further, the typology is illustrated with examples from legal history and legal anthropology. Supposedly dissimilar systems of norms (e.g., customary international law and primitive law; norms of warfare and domestic social norms) are shown to exhibit structural resemblance.

The Alor-Pantar family constitutes the westernmost outlier group of Papuan(Non-Austronesian) languages. Its twenty or so languages are spoken onthe islands of Alor and Pantar, located just north of Timor, in eastern In-donesia. Together with the Papuan languages of Timor, they make up theTimor-Alor-Pantar family. The languages average 5,000 speakers and areunder pressure from the local Malay variety as well as the national lan-guage, Indonesian. This volume studies the internal and external linguistic history of thisinteresting group, and showcases some of its unique typological features, such as the preference to index the transitive patient-like argument onthe verb but not the agent-like one; the extreme variety in morphologi-cal alignment patterns; the use of plural number words; the existence ofquinary numeral systems; the elaborate spatial deictic systems involvingan elevation component; and the great variation exhibited in their kinshipsystems.Unlike many other Papuan languages, Alor-Pantar languages do not ex-hibit clause-chaining, do not have switch reference systems, never suffixsubject indexes to verbs, do not mark gender, but do encode clusivity intheir pronominal systems. Indeed, apart from a broadly similar head-finalsyntactic profile, there is little else that the Alor-Pantar languages sharewith Papuan languages spoken in other regions. While all of them showsome traces of contact with Austronesian languages, in general, borrow-ing from Austronesian has not been intense, and contact with Malay andIndonesian is a relatively recent phenomenon in most of the Alor-Pantarregion

Solid matter. Monolithic and homogeneous concepts for a circular approach to architecture In response to climate change, architects have been seeking a contemporary expression for durable, solid and homogeneous wall structures made of clay, wood, brick, concrete and recycled materials. This book follows 25 projects to analyze construction methods that predominantly involve materials that have a single origin and can be easily dismantled. It looks at a variety of different ways and scales in which architects have dealt with issues of mass and materiality, both in terms of design and construction. Structured according to the specific materials, the book allows direct comparisons, and renders visible solid building typologies and forms. Numerous drawings, developed especially for this book, document the projects. Two essays as well as interviews with Pepe Marquez and Arno Richter examine the strategies and background of monolithic architecture and solid construction methods. - Solid building materials and their contribution to climate protection and sustainability - Analytical presentations of single-variety and demountable construction methods - Insights into research and applications of the materials Angetrieben vom Klimawandel suchen Architektinnen und Architekten den zeitgemäßen Ausdruck für dauerhafte massive und homogene Wandaufbauten aus Lehm, Holz, Ziegel, Beton und Recyclingmaterialien.

Market segmentation and resulting holidaymaker typologies help providers of tourism services to structure heterogeneous demand markets, identify relevant target groups and address them precisely. Against the background of much discussed psychological effects of the Corona pandemic on attitudes towards holiday travel, this working paper presents a holidaymaker typology based on a potentially changed travel motivation on the one hand and the perception of intrapersonal travel barriers (e.g. risk perception) on the other. The analysis was conducted on the basis of representative data collected at the end of 2021 from a total of nine western states (n = 11,003). Using multivariate analysis methods, a total of five corona holiday attitude types could be identified and described in terms of their travel behaviour as well as corona-related strategies for future holiday travel. Furthermore, the relevance (cluster size) of the five types per country was determined and compared, so that the interaction of all findings results in strategic indications for product development and communication in the countries studied.

This book reveals Copenhagen's quality of life using the example of built spaces. It leads its readers on a tour of exploration, visiting exciting architecture projects and surprising districts between Ørestadt and Nordhavn. A total of over 25 exceptional buildings, urban squares and public spaces created in the past 10 years are presented. Documented with brilliant photos, general plans and texts, these projects paint an image of a brave generation of architects and planners who are not afraid to employ novel solutions. On display are daring typologies such as Amager Bakke, a ski slope on a waste incineration plant by BIG, spectacular iconic buildings, including the Royal Danish Aquarium by 3XN or popular public spaces for the urban community

Technology Market Intermediaries (TMI) are currently emerging on the markets for technologies attempting to realize business opportunities and facilitate the technology and IP transactions supporting firms and other markets actors (e.g. universities). They aim to support open innovation, respectively facilitate more economically technology and particularly IP transactions. However, our understanding of TMIs and their roles needs to be considered incomplete. In this paper I provide evidence on the growing number of TMIs and derived a conceptual basis for a further understanding of TMIs. The inherent difficulties of intellectual property monetization present a challenge for technology based enterprises and business opportunities for IP firms. Following a literature review, I develop a typology for TMIs. Having carried out a review of the literature I compiled a mix of primary and secondary data on about 70 TMIs. Applying the 'nine business model building blocks' from Osterwalder (2004) I identify 12 different TMI types which I then consolidate into six TMI archetypes using the framework for 'business models archetypes' of Herman and Malone (2003). -- typology ; type ; Technology Market Intermediaries

This thesis examines the negotiation of nativist migration myths in literary texts dealing with two major periods of migration into Britain after the Second World War: Windrush Generation migration between 1948 and the late 1960s and East European migration after 2004. The thesis explores this topic because in contemporary Britain, migration myths have significantly influenced the way many British citizens think about and relate to migration. The Brexit debate stimulated a substantial production of research on migration myths within social sciences; yet, in literary studies, this theme remains largely unexplored, despite a considerable number of migration literature texts that deal with it. This study explores a corpus of seventeen novels focusing on how they negotiate migration myths and their relation to the emergence of nativism in Britain in the two major moments of mass migration mentioned above. It first establishes a typology of migration myths that recurrently appear in nativist discourses of the periods in focus, then literary techniques and strategies are examined to capture, discuss, and question the effects of migration myths on interactions between natives and immigrants in these narratives. In addition, this thesis explores how the selected narratives build cosmopolitan conviviality as an alternative to prevailing nativist views and as a means to challenge anti-migrant myths. For pursuing these goals, this study integrates concepts, theories, and methods from social sciences and literary studies to facilitate a reading that highlights the aesthetic qualities of the selected novels, as well as their potential to comment on (and question) current social and political issues. This work undertakes a comparative study of migration literature on the Windrush generation and on immigration from Eastern Europe after 2004. In doing so, it compares canonized works on the period from 1948 through the late 1960s with works on the immigration phase after 2004 that have received comparatively little critical ...

  23. Nobody’s Perfect

This paper challenges the cross-linguistic validity of the tense–aspect category ‘perfect’ by investigating 15 languages from eight different families (Atayal, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, English, German, Gitksan, Japanese, Javanese, Korean, Mandarin, Niuean, Québec French, St’át’imcets, Swahili, and Tibetan). The methodology involves using the storyboard ‘Miss Smith’s Bad Day’ to test for the availability of experiential, resultative, recent-past, and continuous readings, as well as lifetime effects, result-state cancellability, narrative progression, and compatibility with definite time adverbials. Results show that the target forms in these languages can be classified into four groups: (a) past perfectives; (b) experientials; (c) resultatives; and (d) hybrids (which allow both experiential and resultative readings). It is argued that the main division is between past perfectives, which contain a ‘pronominal’ tense, on the one hand, and the other three groups on the other, which involve existential quantification, either over times (experiential) or over events (resultative). The methodological and typological implications of the findings are discussed. The main conclusion of the study is that there is no universal category of ‘the perfect’, and that instead, researchers should focus on identifying shared semantic components of tense–aspect categories across languages. ; Social Sciences ; Humanities Research Council of Canada ; Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan ; Jacobs Research Funds ; Peer Reviewed

The paper aims to explore the typology of the category of case in the epics Beowulf, The Book of Dede Korkut, The Song of The Nibelungs and The Tale of Igor's Campaign. It draws certain universal features and their nature based on the contrastive study of all the mentioned epic texts. The contrastive analysis reveals similarities in how various morphological units express the case category in these texts, suggesting that they have a deep root rather than an occasional nature. On the other hand, the results of such typological studies provide essential arguments to researchers in psychology, cultural studies, history, sociology, and other disciplines within this context. Our research topic is related to studying the typological features of case categories in ancient epics of diverse, unrelated, and geographically dispersed language speakers. In this context, it connects us to the unity of human nature and directs us towards the unity of biological and cognitive organisation. In ancient epics, identifying typological characteristics by case category means increasing the volume of language universals in this context. In ancient epics, the type of cases, and their development directions, are almost similar.
