    The theme of memory in the Wisdom of Solomon shows affinities with the conceptualization of memory in the ancient world generally. The book is written such that the more one has internalized the texts and traditions of the Jewish community, the more meaningful and persuasive its argument will be. To have shaped oneself according to the authoritative Scriptural texts is to perceive the true reality of how history is unfolding. Even if there is danger or suffering in the present, one can make sense of this in terms of a coming eschatological judgment because one will contextualize the present in the patterns of the remembered past. Thus, virtues like fortitude, self-control, justice, and prudence can be developed because God and Wisdom, from whom these come, have assured their eventual reward. In addition, the same pedagogical role of memory that Pseudo-Solomon describes through the plague sequence is evident in the author’s approach to his audience as well. They are expected to learn from the remembered, sacred past as well as from their own experiences. And when shaped by these memories, they will have the prudence to remain faithful because they perceive the intimate connection between virtue and immortality that has been evident throughout history. They will understand that wisdom provides eternal remembrance, both among people but even more importantly, in the mind of God.

    This paper will focus on the thematics of mystery, conspiracy and inquiry, a subject area explored in one of my more recent books, where I sought to understand the prominent place these thematics have occupied in the representation of reality since around the turn of the 20th century. It has also long been my aim to analyse the role that these thematics may have played in the formation of political metaphysics. Although not necessarily one of the canonical forms of political philosophy, political metaphysics left its mark on the last century and, in all probability, continues to haunt the present one. It can be seen as a kind of mythology that is equipped with a formidable practical effectiveness, which gives it the power to shape the contours of reality. The thematics of mystery, conspiracy and inquiry have constantly flipped back and forth between the representation of reality in literature, particularly in so-called ‘popular’ literature, and the most disturbing and sometimes most dramatic aspects of reality itself.

    Alban Nikolai Herbst’s literary blog Die Dschungel. Anderswelt differs from other blogs insofar as his experimental intention is to use the Internet not only as a publication platform but also to expose himself to the “dynamics of the net”. The author scrutinizes the relation between fiction and reality in the context of the technological conditions within which literary writing in the Internet occurs. “Cyberrealism”, a term developed by Herbst, refers to cybernetic models of thought, in which the technological development dissolves the interface between man and technology. In “Cyberrealism” the author turns into a “Cyborg”, a being which is located at the interface between man and medium, thus dissolving the antipodes between reality and fiction and between the private and the public. In this way he creates a new reality, or, in keeping with the term “Cyberrealism”: Cyberreality.

    Anhand uneindeutiger literarischer Texte wird demonstriert, wie jeweilige Wirklichkeiten bzw. Wahrheiten hergestellt werden: durch die Zuordnung einer Narration zu einem Genre, durch Konvention oder durch Regeln des Diskurses. Eine Diskussion des Genrebegriffs weist dessen Schwäche für ein Verständnis psychologisch relevanter Erzählungen auf. Besser tauglich scheint Wittgensteins Regelbegriff, von dem eine Brücke gefunden werden kann zu Foucaults Konzept des regelgeleiteten Diskurses, mit dem das Wirken heteronomer Macht in narrativen Konstruktionen deutlich werden kann.

    Bis heute hält die Forschung an der negativen Perspektivierung höfischer Moralistik fest, an einer pessimistischen Anthropologie im Zeichen des amour-propre. Mit ihrer literaturwissenschaftlichen Untersuchung zur Konversation und Geselligkeit im französischen Salon zeigt Karin Schulz eine optimistische Lesart, welche die sozial-reflexive Produktivität moralistischen Denkens stärkt. Auf der methodischen Grundlage der Erfahrungsdifferenz von Idealität und Realität hinterfragt sie das Selbstverständnis idealer Verhaltensnormen und zeichnet für den französischen Salon, ausgehend vom 17.     This bachelor thesis analyzes the coalescence of reality and fantasy as an element of the literary childhood perspective. It proposes the thesis that the uncertain seperation and confluence between the real and the fantastic from the perspective of the literary child is developed as a literary strategy to generate an experiential child perspective, one that emulates the worldview and subjective perceptions of a fictional, literarily constructed child. The paper provides three case studies that consist of a close reading of excerpts from three different child perspectives in contemporary English-language novels: “The Daydreamer” (1994) by Ian McEwan, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” (2005) by Jonathan Safran Foer, and “Gun Love” (2008) by Jennifer Clement.

Auf der Basis dieser Einsicht werden literarische Darstellungen als spezifische Wirklichkeitskonstruktionen aufgefasst, die über eigene, im wissenschaftlichen Diskursuniversum vernachlässigte, ästhetische Erkenntnispotentiale verfügen. Diese Textformen können im Rahmen qualitativer Sozialforschung für das Verständnis der schweigsamen Dimensionen des Sozialen produktiv gemacht werden. Der Beitrag nähert sich den Erkenntnispotentialen von Literatur sowohl über eine historische Rekonstruktion des schwierigen Verhältnisses von Literatur und Sozialwissenschaften als auch über beispielhaft illustrierte, theoretische Überlegungen zur Wirkung literarischer Repräsentationen auf die Körperlichkeit und Sinnlichkeit der Leser.' Based on this understanding, literary representations are seen as specific constructions of reality containing a characteristic potential of aesthetic knowledge which the world of scientific discourse tends to neglect. Qualitative social research may make productive use of this kind of text to enhance its understanding of the silent dimensions of the social sphere. The potential of knowledge inherent to literature is approached by a historical reconstruction of the difficult relations between literature and the social sciences as well as by a case-based theoretical discussion of the effects of literary representations on readers corporeality and sensuality.'     'Zwei aktuelle Schulromane aus Frankreich und Deutschland sind Gegenstand dieses Beitrags. Die Romane wurden ausgewählt, weil sie über nationale Grenzziehungen hinweg eine hohe Parallelität der Handlung und nahezu übereinstimmende Problematisierung von Schule als Machtbehälter aufweisen. Analyseinstrument ist Pierre Bourdieus Theorie der symbolischen Gewalt, welche hier vor allem auf die Komplizenschaft der Erwachsenen mit den immer subtiler werdenden und inzwischen unsichtbaren Macht- und Unterwerfungsmechanismen von Schule aufmerksam macht. Bei der Analyse der beiden Romanhandlungen wird maßgeblich die These vertreten, dass in den dort vorgelegten literarischen Reflexionen von Schule vor allem ein bisher kaum beachteter Aspekt ins Zentrum gerückt wurde: Der Essentialismus realitätsbezogener Autoritäten als Auslöser jugendlicher Gewalt durch Desillusionierung.' (Autorenreferat) ; 'The paper focuses on two topical novels, from France and Germany, on life in school. The novels were chosen because of the high cross-national parallelism in their ways of conducting plots and of problematizing school as a closed sphere of power. Bourdieu's theory of symbolic violence is primarily used as an analytical tool for highlighting adults' complicity with the increasingly subtle, and ultimately invisible, mechanisms of power and repression that characterize school. In analyzing the plots of both novels, the main argument is that these literary reflections on school emphasize an aspect which, as yet, has been rarely addressed: the reality-geared essentialism of authorities, which brings about disillusionment and, as a result, juvenile violence.'     'Gewiss sind 'Geschichten', die sich die Menschen erzählen, aktive Konstruktionen der Wirklichkeit. Aber sie sind so wenig beliebig wie die gesellschaftlichen Strukturen, in die sie verwoben sind. Pointierter sogar: Sie machen Strukturen transparenter. Sie eröffnen den methodischen Zugang zur historischen Alltagspraxis der Menschen. Der folgende Beitrag will am Beispiel einer klassischen Methodenkontroverse des 20. Jahrhunderts, der Erklären-Verstehen-Debatte, zeigen, welche Reichweite Erzählungen als 'Laienkonzepte der 'Welt'' (Habermas) für die Rekonstruktion von sozialer Wirklichkeit haben.' (Autorenreferat) ; 'Of course, stories told by people are active constructions of reality. However, they are not arbitrary, nor are the social structures which they are embedded in. More specifically, they make structures more transparent. They offer a methodological approach to the historical practice of people's everyday life. On the basis of a classical methodological controversy of the 20th century, the debate on explanation vs. understanding, the following contribution aims to show the importance that narrations, as 'lay concepts of 'the world' (Habermas), have for the reconstruction of social reality.'     Viele der zur Darstellung medieninduzierter Veränderungen und Unterschiede genutzten Begrifflichkeiten und Ausdrücke produzieren Leerstellen und Wortnebel, weil deren kontextspezifische Bedeutung nicht oder nur unzureichend expliziert wird. Sie halten weder einer sprachwissenschaftlichen noch einer medienphilosophischen Analyse stand. Anhand der drei prominenten Oppositionen 'offline/online, analog/digital und real/virtuell' zeigt der Vortrag, warum aus Sicht des Referenten die am häufigsten genutzten Ausdrücke den Gegenstand 'Online-Beratung' bzw. 'Online-Kommunikation' nicht nur nicht angemessen beschreiben, sondern in einigen Fällen Mystifizierungen produziere. ; Many terms and expressions used to describe media-induced changes and differences produce vagueness and word fog due to insufficient explanation of context-specific meaning and readers often remain confused. Under these conditions those terms do not stand up to linguistic or media philosophical analysis. On the basis of the three most common oppositions (offline/online, analog/digital, real/virtual), the lecture tries to show, why these expressions do not adequately describe the subject 'online counselling' or 'online communication', and - furthermore - disseminate mystifications about the subject.
