    This is the introductory essay to the Special Issue “Faith after the Anthropocene” published in Religions 11:4 and 11:5. How does the Earth’s precarious state reveal our own? How does this vulnerable condition prompt new ways of thinking and being? The essays that are part of this collection consider how the transformative thinking demanded by our vulnerability inspires us to reconceive our place in the cosmos, alongside each other and, potentially, before God. Who are we “after” (the concept of) the Anthropocene? What forms of thought and structures of feeling might attend us in this state? How might we determine our values and to what do we orient our hopes? Faith, a conceptual apparatus for engaging the unseen, helps us weigh the implications of this massive, but in some ways mysterious, force on the lives we lead; faith helps us visualize what it means to exist in this new and still emergent reality.

    A key question in the field of religious studies is the extent to which ‘religion' as a concept ‘translates' in various cultural contexts, with some arguing that it is a purely Western and academic construct. In this article, I argue that the Islamic understanding of religion as a universal category of human experience with various, distinct manifestations is similar to the concept of religion widely operative in the academic discipline of comparative religion; for this reason, Islamic terms related to religion can easily be translated into terminology broadly found in the study of religion, including the term ‘religion' itself. I argue, however, that the apparent ease with which one can translate Islamic religious terminology may obscure some important nuances in the Islamic conception of religion that make it both distinct and internally coherent with its broader view of human nature and of its own particular religious system relative to others. Attentiveness to the semantic range and usage of some key terms in Qur'anic and Islamic terminology regarding religion yields a distinctly Islamic conception of religion that is independent of Western, academic theories of religion.

    Die Vierzig Hadithe sind für die Glaubens- und Lebenspraxis der Muslime vom 9. Jahrhundert an bis heute von großer Bedeutung, wurden wissenschaftlich bislang jedoch kaum beachtet. Für eine überschaubare Sammlung ausgewählter Prophetenüberlieferungen gestaltet sich der Inhalt der Vierzig Hadithe äußerst vielfältig und reicht von Kindeserziehung und religionspraktischen Aspekten bis hin zum Dschihad.In Teilband 1 wird dieses Themengebiet auf Basis der Erhebung von gut neunhundert Sammlungen völlig neu erschlossen. In Teilband 2 erfolgt die Aufarbeitung von Gedankengut und Ideologie des Dschihad auf der Grundlage prophetischer Überlieferungen aus der Zeit der Kreuzzüge bis zur Gegenwart. Eine Übersetzung der Originaltexte macht dabei das einschlägige Hadith-Material auch für Interessierte außerhalb der Islamwissenschaften nutzbar.

    Matthew uses ὀλιγόπιστος to critique inadequate faith from the disciples, adapting already linked Markan pericopes to create a set with a distinct rhetorical function. For the Gospel audience, these function together to call people to the sort of wholehearted trust exemplified in the first use of the term (6,25-34), while developing this ideal in a christological direction. Linguistic studies on the role of the vocative highlight how ὀλιγόπιστος is used to effect this goal, as it serves to recharacterize the disciples, drawing attention to the narrative frame, and emphasising the imperative force of Jesus’ rhetorical questions.

Die Erzählung und die leidenschaftlichen Dialoge mit den Freunden kreisen um die Fragen, warum der Gerechte leiden muss und warum er von Gott zu diesem Leiden auserwählt ist. Hiob akzeptiert nur eine Antwort aus Gottes eigenem Mund. Doch wie ist es möglich, Gottes Stimme zu hören? „Lässt unsere Gesellschaft Kommunikation mit Gott zu?“ (N. Luhmann) Die Reflexionen zu Hiob versuchen, Gedanken von S. Kierkegaard, R. Girard, N. Kermani, M. Susman und M. Buber weiterzudenken. The biblical book of Job is part of the traditional literature of antiquity but is also read as fictional literature in modern times. The figure of Job carries the prayer cry ‘Where is the Father?’ in his name. The story of Job and his passionate dialogues with friends revolve around the questions of why the righteous have to suffer and why God chose them to do so. Job only accepts an answer from God’s own mouth. But how is it possible to hear God’s voice? “Does our society allow communication with God?” (N. Luhmann). This book’s reflections on Job try to extend the thoughts of S. Kierkegaard, R. Girard, N. Kermani, M. Susman and M. Buber.

    Die Vierzig Hadithe sind für die Glaubens- und Lebenspraxis der Muslime vom 9. Jahrhundert an bis heute von großer Bedeutung, wurden wissenschaftlich bislang jedoch kaum beachtet. Für eine überschaubare Sammlung ausgewählter Prophetenüberlieferungen gestaltet sich der Inhalt der Vierzig Hadithe äußerst vielfältig und reicht von Kindeserziehung und religionspraktischen Aspekten bis hin zum Dschihad.In Teilband 1 wird dieses Themengebiet auf Basis der Erhebung von gut neunhundert Sammlungen völlig neu erschlossen. In Teilband 2 erfolgt die Aufarbeitung von Gedankengut und Ideologie des Dschihad auf der Grundlage prophetischer Überlieferungen aus der Zeit der Kreuzzüge bis zur Gegenwart. Eine Übersetzung der Originaltexte macht dabei das einschlägige Hadith-Material auch für Interessierte außerhalb der Islamwissenschaften nutzbar.

    "Interpréter la Parole de Dieu pour la rendre proche de la vie de l'Église est une tâche importante et difficile. La mise en lumière de l'actualité d'une Parole prononcée dans le passé, sans trahir son sens originel, implique une herméneutique adaptée au texte de la Bible, Parole de Dieu inspirée. Joseph Ratzinger a porté une attention constante à cette question. Avec la parution de Jésus de Nazareth et de l'exhortation post-synodale Verbum Domini, l'"herméneutique de la foi" apparaît comme la réponse de Benoît XVI à l'exigence d'une approche proprement théologique de la Bible qui, en conformité avec les indications du concile Vatican II, sait tirer profit d'authentiques acquis de l'exégèse moderne, tout en montrant, à la suite des Pères de l'Église, l'unité de la Parole biblique.     This article presents some of the results of the research on the God that Julian of Norwich makes known to us through her Christological revelations. This woman left a writing about her revelations, in which Jesus Christ is the centre of her theology. In this document, the motherhood of God is manifested as the foundation of human nature. In this research, we wanted to answer the question about what the keys to the theological reading are that we find in Julian of Norwich, which are able to contribute to rethinking current Christology. We turn to hermeneutics as the method that offers an understanding that the theological exercise of interpreting is an art, a practice and a science, a reading and a rewriting based on the existing sources. The results allow us to rethink Christology from a mystical point of view and following Jesus, with an understandable, questioning, propositional and narrative language. Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This article contributes to research regarding women and their theological production. It highlights the Christological reading that Juliana of Norwich made and that becomes a point of reference for analysing and interpreting the action of God from a vision of Verbo incarnation as our mother. The novelty that this research offers is in the identification and deepening of three important categories for theology: a Christology that re-signifies sin and suffering; a Christology of trust, supplication and petition; and a Christology of Jesus’ motherhood.

    Literature is an important medium for representing and communicating world views and values. This article focuses on the representation of culture and religion and reveals constructions of identities in children's literature. The analysis of selected contemporary books from the German speaking area considers the representation of the main characters and their cultural and religious background as well as their faith and practices with a discourse analytical approach. The analysed narrations tend to specify difference by means of cultural and religious characteristics; instead of dissolving those categories, narrations strengthen them. The article states the importance of literature in the mediation of knowledge, self-concepts, interpersonal perceptions and normative paradigms.

    Quisiera comenzar con algunas observaciones preliminares con respecto al tema de nuestro coloquio y autor. La primera se refiere a que en un mundo altamente laico y en relación con un autor que según mi interpretación se encuentra en la tradición de Nietzsche, Heidegger y en estrecha relación con un tipo de epistemología, por ejemplo, de Derrida, Foucault, Baudrillard o Deleuze/Guattari, de la cual el mismo Borges es uno de los primeros en asentar en el siglo veinte después de Heidegger. Una segunda observación: quisiera además dejar en claro que no me referiré a continuación a lo que Borges piensa o no piensa, cree o no cree, ya que no sé qué es lo que Borges como individuo pensaba o creía; tengo sólo sus textos a disposición. Una tercera observación principal tiene que ver con nuestro tema: ¿cómo podemos osar hablar de fe en la obra de Borges sin aclarar el concepto de "fe" tan ligado a la religión? y ¿cómo podemos hablar de "religión"sin poner una base mínima al respecto? Lo que no podemos hacer es suponer que disponemos de un significado en común de lo que significa religión, término que tiene una historia desde la Antigüedad griega y que al menos tiene dos acepciones, la de "relegare" y la de "religare", ligadas particularmente al cristianismo y que atraviesan toda la cultura occidental. A continuación quisiera comenzar con algunas observaciones generales sobre los conceptos fe y religión, para luego pasar a ciertos pensamientos de Borges que se encuentran dispersos por toda su obra y en contextos específicos o generales sobre la religión y fe, también dentro de un contexto de la filosofía postmoderna, reflexiones a Creencia reflexiva las cuales les atribuimos un estatus sistémico.:Observaciones generales. - Borges. - Resumen
