Abstract: This paper exposes the development of a written proposal in a 2nd year high school students in a rural school district Santa Terezinha in Itaporã-MS and a part of its results, to promote a reflection on new possibilities for work that contribute to close the gap between school written practices and extracurricular and their socio historical relations. We begin from the assumption that the writing is heterogeneously formed the linguistic facts do not separate the social practices (Corrêa, 2004). The proposal constituted the production of a Virtual Journal on Facebook, developed during the Portuguese classes. The analysis of news production and reporting, plus the comments made on the digital platform, enable linguistically show that there is no rigid boundary between writing practices of focused on writing culture and those of digital culture, as they suppose many educators. Furthermore, show that social networks in school can work as collaborators in a more efficient and meaningful

Educational environments, such as universities, have been deeply affected by technologically driven change. In fact, educational technologies are becoming progressively common, and scholars have stated that there is an expectation for these technologies to be a part of formal learning environments. Hence, university staff are expected to use digital technologies in their work activities. These expectations, however, rely on university staff's capabilities to use such technologies, thus highlighting the importance of literacy skills. This paper aims to explore the impact of information literacy (IL) and digital literacy (DL) on university staff's intention to use digital technologies in their work activities. To support this aim, a conceptual model is composed of constructs such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy and habit from the UTAUT2 framework, while incorporating the dimensions of information literacy and digital literacy. The conceptual model is then assessed with data obtained from 100 university employees thorough partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate there is a direct and significant relationship between information literacy and intention to use digital technologies, whereas the relationship between digital literacy and intention to use is mediated through performance expectancy and habit. Furthermore, performance expectancy and habit possess a direct impact on intention to use technology.

The second edition of Digital Literacy provides a highly focused exploration of key critical concepts in understanding digital media in a clear, engaging, and accessible way for an introductory audience. This updated edition explores a variety of approaches to digital literacy, including prescient work by media theorists, the historical influences of legacy media, the contemporary transformations of the digital environment, and the way our communication ecology is constructed. The book argues for an understanding of the changes in traditional media, the rise of Big Tech, and the challenges these pose to privacy and to democratic ideals.Important themes explored in chapters across the book include digital identity, the internet as infrastructure, the web as a collaborative tool, and domestic and global digital divides. The new edition also explores digital literacy and the pandemic, as well as the growing body of research around the effects and impact of the digital technologies we use every day. Also included are useful Applied Skills Appendices outlining core areas of digital practice. The text is an ideal resource for students and scholars of mass communication, media literacy, digital information literacy, and digital technology courses, as well as for all those wanting to know more about the deep on-going impact of communication technologies on our lives.

Skills shortage in the fields of Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) poses a significant challenge for industries globally. This study examines the interrelationship between high school students’ gender, their proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and their career preferences in the STEM domain. Based on representative data for German teenagers, our study shows that female adolescents are less likely to choose a career in STEM unless they have strong ICT skills in secondary school. The relationship does not hold for male students. Our findings can be explained with evidence that teenagers sort into occupations they believe to be good at and that female teenagers rather underestimate their true potential. Using different empirical approaches, we also show that ICT skills act as a moderator and not as a mediator in the gender-specific choice of training upon graduating from secondary school.
