    "Esta es una obra, escrita por el ingeniero Jorge Alberto Naranjo Mesa, es un homenaje a la Facultad y al espíritu formador de los maestros que desde allí inspiran a jóvenes de diversas procedencias a cumplir sus sueños a través de la ciencias y la academia. A través de esta novela histórica, el profesor Naranjo recogió los imaginarios y vivencias de cuatro jóvenes, con los que se sentirán identificadas las personas que han pasado por sus aulas y laboratorios. En ese sentido, el lector tendrá entre sus manos una obra fundacional, de aquellas que recogen toda la carga cultural y significativa de un espacio y la condensan en un volumen. Este es un libro que narra, desde la literatura y la historia, lo que representa ser parte de la Facultad de Minas y ver en la ciencia, el arte y la academia un camino para formarse de manera integral. "La estrella de cinco picos es un testimonio de la Facultad de Minas de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Sede Medellín, en la época 1967-1973, pero no debe quedarse en "documento histórico," pues es a la vez una suerte de "profesión de fe" con la confianza en la práctica de la ciencia como camino para mantenerse alegre y sano, sobre todo si se complementa con el estudio del arte y con la creación artística, a la vez que es exposición de un modo de vivir, de actuar, de pensar, de enfrentar la vida. Es para ser leída como obra de arte pero en el fondo expone una ciencia. No conviene creer que por conocer personalmente al autor o a determinadas personas y anécdotas de la Facultad de Minas entonces uno "se sabe la historia."
