    Jeannette Fischer untersucht die Antriebe, die zu Hass und zu hasserfüllten Handlungen führen. Hass gegen andere beginnt als Selbsthass. Dieser wiederum hat seine Ursache in Schuldgefühlen, die bereits in der Kindheit in uns ausgelöst wurden. Die Autorin illustriert das an Beispielen, u.a. an dem fürchterlichen Amoklauf von Anders Breivik vom Juli 2011 und an dem Entschluss eines jungen Kanadiers, sich dem IS anzuschließen. Die zugrundeliegenden Opfer/Täter- und Schuld/Unschuld-Narrative sind dominante Muster in vielen Handlungen und Diskursen; wir sind deren Gefangene. Das zeigt sich nicht nur auf der persönlichen Ebene, sondern auch im gesellschaftlichen und politischen Leben. Wir können Hass nicht beseitigen, indem wir ihn verurteilen, verabscheuen, ja gar hassen. Veränderung ist erst möglich, wenn wir den Teufelskreis verlassen und das ausleuchten, was zu seiner Entstehung führt. Jeannette Fischer examines what it is that leads to hate and to hateful actions. Hatred against others begins as self-hatred. This in turn has its cause in feelings of guilt that were already triggered in us in childhood. To illustrate this, the author uses examples like the horrific rampage of Anders Breivik in 2011 and the decision of a young Canadian to join the IS. The victim/perpetrator and guilt/innocence narrative is a dominant pattern in our actions and discourses; we are held prisoners by it. And it shows up not only at the personal level, but also in social and political interactions. We cannot eliminate hate by condemning it, abhorring it, even hating it. Change is brought about only by leaving the vicious circle and making clear what leads to its creation.

Taylor Nygaard and Jorie Lagerwey track how these shows of the white left, obsessed with its own anxiety and suffering, are complicit in the rise and maintenance of the far right-particularly in the mobilization, representation, and sustenance of structural white supremacy on television.Nygaard and Lagerwey examine a cycle of dark television comedies, the focus of which are "horrible white people," by putting them in conversation with similar upmarket comedies from creators and casts of color like Insecure, Atlanta, Dear White People, and Master of None. Through their analysis, they demonstrate the ways these non-white-centric shows negotiate prestige TV's dominant aesthetics of whiteness and push back against the centering of white suffering in a time of cultural crisis.Through the lens of media analysis and feminist cultural studies, Nygaard and Lagerwey's book opens up new ways of looking at contemporary television consumption-and the political, cultural, and social repercussions of these "horrible white people" shows, both on- and off-screen

    Angaben zur beteiligten Person Spicker: Dr. Friedemann Spicker ist freier wissenschaftlicher Schriftsteller und Aphoristiker. Nach seiner Promotion in Köln 1973 war er in Schulen und Hochschulen im In- und Ausland tätig. Er hat zahlreiche Buch- und Aufsatzpublikationen überwiegend zum Aphorismus vom 18. bis 20. Jahrhundert verfasst. Die deutsch-jüdischen Aphoristiker bilden das Selbstverständnis der deutschen Juden in seiner ganzen widersprüchlichen Vielfalt ab, von westjüdischem Liberalismus bis zur Orthodoxie, von Solidarität bis zur Abgrenzung, von umstandsloser Assimilation bis zu Zionismus und jüdisch-israelischem Nationalbewusstsein. Eine gespannte, leidvoll erlebte Doppelheit ist die vorherrschende biographische Figur. Das Phänomen der Spiegelung von außen ist dabei nicht zu vernachlässigen. Was das Implizite betrifft, so ist der Aphorismus zweifellos »keine jüdische Erfindung« (Kunert). Dennoch treffen viele konstitutive Elemente der Gattung auf eine spezifische Disposition. Die aus der Aggression der Umwelt sich nährende Selbstbeobachtung, der provozierende Witz dessen, der sich zum Außenseiter gemacht sieht, Skeptizismus und Desillusionismus, Paradoxie und Dialektik ebenso wie das Verhältnis zu Schrift und Sprache.; German-Jewish aphorists depict the self-understanding of German Jews in all its contradictory diversity, from Western Jewish liberalism to orthodoxy, from solidarity to demarcation, from straightforward assimilation to Zionism and Jewish-Israeli national consciousness. The biographical character in question portrays a tense and grievously experienced duality. The phenomenon concerning the reflection from the outside ought not to be neglected. As far as implication is concerned, aphorism is undoubtedly "not a Jewish invention" (Kunert). Nevertheless, many constitutive elements of the genre encounter a specific disposition: introspection, which feeds off the aggression of its surroundings, the provocative wit of the one who believes himself to have been deemed an outsider, scepticism and disillusionism, paradox and dialectics, as well as the relationship to writing and language.
