    Por la relevancia de la reproducción en la adolescencia y la juventud en la agenda social de la región, en este documento se describe y analiza la evolución y desigualdad de varios de sus indicadores. Para ello, se usan los datos de censos y encuestas más recientes disponibles. Se halla que mientras la reproducción en la adolescencia ha caído lentamente luego de un aumento en las últimas décadas del siglo XX, la que ocurre en la juventud ha bajado significativamente. La desigualdad social es alta, pero mayor en la reproducción adolescente y no registra signos de reducción. La baja reciente de la reproducción adolescente se explica por el aumento de la educación y de la anticoncepción. Pero la reproducción temprana aún es frecuente entre los grupos desaventajados, por lo cual abatir las barreras de acceso a la anticoncepción para las adolescentes de estos grupos es fundamental, así como ofrecer oportunidades alternativas a la maternidad adolescente.     The study is a purely descriptive analysis of the trends in adolescent fertility and an assessment of reproductive inequalities in a defined area of the Caribbean region, over the twenty year period 1990-2010 The main data sources used are the decennial censuses of population and housing, the system of vital registration and relevant specialised surveys. The core data for the analysis are stored in the MATERNILAC database maintained by CELADE, the Population Division of ECLAC.The analysis shows that the area has experienced declines in the adolescent birth rate, to varying degrees over the period. Occurring simultaneously with these reductions there were also declines inmotherhood among adolescents. The limited data indicating inequalities show overall an association between the declining reductions and education, residence and socio-economic status.     Las conductas en la adolescencia pueden tener efectos para el resto de la vida. Entres estas conductas están las reproductivas, que suelen ser objeto de control social. Este control presenta variaciones entre países y culturas. Por ello, en este trabajo se examinan indicadores específicos de estas conductas en América Latina y el Caribe y otras regiones del mundo.
