    Comment écrire le voyage au vingtième siècle ? Le genre du récit de voyage porte en lui un paradoxe fondamental : il s’inscrit entre l’expression d’une nécessaire subjectivité et un ancrage référentiel, qui apparaît de manière flagrante au siècle où la définition du sujet est remise en cause. Ainsi émerge une œuvre viatique qui exprime le besoin de s’inscrire hors des critères définissant jusqu’à présent le genre du récit de voyage. Nos quatre auteurs contribuent à cette remise en cause ainsi qu’à un renouvellement des constantes du genre viatique, s’exprimant de manière dialectique : entre terre natale et terres d’élection : entre soi et l’autre. Ils proposent également quelques motifs constitutifs de poétiques du voyage – l’archaïsme, les espaces clos, l’inachèvement, la mort – réexaminant les notions d’espace et de temps, marquant la structure des oeuvres comme la langue. How to describe traveling on the 20th century? The genre of travel story implies a fundamental paradox: it lies between the expression of a necessary subjectivity and a reference anchoring, which highlights during the century which witnesses the questioning of the definition of the subject. Consequently, a travel work emerges and expresses the need to instill beyond the criteria which have been defining the genre of traveling until now. These four authors contribute to this questioning as well as a remodeling of the constants of the genre of traveling, while expressing in a dialectical way: between native land and the target countries; between oneself and the other. They also propose some patterns consistent with the poetics of traveling: archaism, closed spaces, incompleteness, death – reexamining the concepts of time and space, which influence the structure of the works as well as the language in use

    On observe que l'Espagne occupe, dans les œuvres de Georges Bataille, Jean Genêt et Claude Simon, une place importante. Elle est, d'abord, l'objet d'une expérience privée, à la fois brève et intense. Mais le retentissement de cette expérience - l'effort pour la penser - rencontre ensuite, croise les images à travers lesquels on a accoutumé, depuis des siècles, de la percevoir. Tout particulièrement celles que leur lèguent deux grandes traditions : la mythologique héroïque de la guerre civile, d'une part, l'imaginaire exotique et pittoresque propre aux romantiques, d'autre part. Par rapport à l'héritage, le travail consiste en une déconstruction patiente, minutieuse. Mais les stéréotypes ne sont pas écartés, au prétexte qu'ils seraient trompeurs. Ils sont, au contraire, exposés, repris, déplacés. De là, chez les trois auteurs, et en dépit de tout ce qui peut les séparer, l'élaboration d'une Espagne nouvelle, tout à la fois reconnaissable et méconnaissable. De l'altérité de convention sort une altérité forte, et des stéréotypes un mythe. Car l'Espagne, au bout du compte, ouvre sur la vérité qui leur importe et qui se tient au centre de leur pensée : vérité anthropologique dans le cas de Simon et de Bataille, vérité intime dans le cas de Genet Spain noticeably figures prominently in the works of Georges Bataille, Jean Genet and Claude Simon. It is first and foremost the object of a private experience that is both brief and intense. However, the registering of such an experience - the attempt at turning it into thought -then encounters and intersects the images through which the country has customarily been perceived for centuries. They notably turn to two traditions: the heroic mythology of the Civil War, on the one hand, the exotic and picturesque imagination that has characterised the romantic generation, on the other hand. They have patiently and carefully deconstructed such an inheritance. Yet, these stereotypes are not cast away altogether as deceitful conceptions. They are much rather exhibited, taken up, displaced. Hence, in the works of the three authors that are of concern here and despite everything that might distinguish them otherwise, the elaboration of a new Spain, at once recognizable and unrecognizable. A strong alterity springs forth from a conventional alterity, and myth emerges from stereotypes. Indeed Spain eventually opens onto the truth which matters to them and which stands at the core of their respective thought: an anthropological truth in the cases of Simon and Bataille, an intimate truth in the case of Genet.che aut

    Prenant pour point de départ l'œuvre de l'écrivain américain, Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), notre thèse étudiera les écrits du français Henri Bosco et de l'italien Dino Buzzati. Elle concernera principalement la première moitié du XXe siècle. On étudiera le thème des lieux en montrant comment ces derniers deviennent des paysages fantasmatiques : les lieux de la mort sont des lieux isolés qui influencent l'action et sont, parfois, des personnages à part entière. Puis, on analysera le thème du temps, indissociablement lié au sentiment de la mort. On verra ce dernier se manifester dans l'immobilité - ou l'accélération - du temps, dans la perte du sentiment de la durée ou la mesure obsessionnelle du temps par les personnages. Enfin, le sentiment de la mort apparaîtra à travers le thème des personnages complexes, ambigus, parfois pervers, ou, au contraire, symbolisant le Bien absolu. On ne dissociera pas l'étude de ces thèmes de celle des principaux axes des œuvres. Ainsi, on verra comment les lieux, les personnages et le sentiment de la durée servent l'idée de la quête de l'Idéal. On montrera aussi que cette dernière ne peut exister sans une spiritualisation du monde où l'on voit agir l'âme des lieux et celle des personnages. Et l'analyse des œuvres montrera de quelle façon celles-ci reflètent les préoccupations eschatologiques des auteurs : exploration du seuil de l'au-delà, présence des données, apocalyptiques, infernales. Enfin, on mettra en évidence que le fantastique est le principe d'écriture régissant les œuvres étudiées : onirisme en rapport avec le sentiment de la mort, présences de la Mort maternelle, d'un avant-monde de la naissance, d'une intrusion de la mort dans la vie From the Edgar Allan Poe's works, our thesis will examine some ones of the French novelist, Henri Bosco, and a few of the Italian writer, Dino Buzzat. It ill concern mainly the first half of the twentieth century. We'll study the themes of the places showing how they serve the imaginary world of the writers : the spots of death are isolated places where the animal and vegetable kingdoms just as the elements influence action. Sometimes they are themselves true characters. The, we'ss analyse the theme of time linked to the feeling of death : motionlessness or too speedy time, the loss of the feeling of length or, on the contrary, the obsession of time by the characters. We won't dissociate the study of these themes of the key-ideas of the works. So, we'll see how the places, the characters and the feeling of lengthh contribute to the idea of the quest of Ideal. We'll show also that the quest doesn't exist without a world metamorphosed by the transcendence in which the soul of the places and that one's of the characters are acting. And the analysis of the works will show how they reflect the preoccupations of the authors : exploration of the the treshold of the beyond, presence of apocalyptic, infernal facts. At last, we'll bring that the fantastic is the principle of the style governing the studied works : obvious connection between imagination and feeling of death, presences of maternal death, of a world before the birth, of an interference of death into life

Mais le retentissement de cette expérience - l'effort pour la penser - rencontre ensuite, croise les images à travers lesquels on a accoutumé, depuis des siècles, de la percevoir. Tout particulièrement celles que leur lèguent deux grandes traditions : la mythologique héroïque de la guerre civile, d'une part, l'imaginaire exotique et pittoresque propre aux romantiques, d'autre part. Par rapport à l'héritage, le travail consiste en une déconstruction patiente, minutieuse. Mais les stéréotypes ne sont pas écartés, au prétexte qu'ils seraient trompeurs. Ils sont, au contraire, exposés, repris, déplacés. De là, chez les trois auteurs, et en dépit de tout ce qui peut les séparer, l'élaboration d'une Espagne nouvelle, tout à la fois reconnaissable et méconnaissable. De l'altérité de convention sort une altérité forte, et des stéréotypes un mythe. Car l'Espagne, au bout du compte, ouvre sur la vérité qui leur importe et qui se tient au centre de leur pensée : vérité anthropologique dans le cas de Simon et de Bataille, vérité intime dans le cas de Genet Spain noticeably figures prominently in the works of Georges Bataille, Jean Genet and Claude Simon. It is first and foremost the object of a private experience that is both brief and intense. However, the registering of such an experience - the attempt at turning it into thought -then encounters and intersects the images through which the country has customarily been perceived for centuries. They notably turn to two traditions: the heroic mythology of the Civil War, on the one hand, the exotic and picturesque imagination that has characterised the romantic generation, on the other hand. They have patiently and carefully deconstructed such an inheritance. Yet, these stereotypes are not cast away altogether as deceitful conceptions. They are much rather exhibited, taken up, displaced. Hence, in the works of the three authors that are of concern here and despite everything that might distinguish them otherwise, the elaboration of a new Spain, at once recognizable and unrecognizable. A strong alterity springs forth from a conventional alterity, and myth emerges from stereotypes. Indeed Spain eventually opens onto the truth which matters to them and which stands at the core of their respective thought: an anthropological truth in the cases of Simon and Bataille, an intimate truth in the case of Genet.che aut
