    Este libro comprende un estudio sociofonético del habla de los presidentes y ministros de origen andaluz en el Gobierno de España entre 1923 y 2011. Se presenta un análisis cuantitativo de los principales rasgos lingüísticos del discurso de estos dirigentes para conocer, por un lado, las características de su producción oral y, por otro, para poner de manifiesto la existencia de posibles procesos de convergencia y divergencia entre las variedades en contacto -la andaluza y la centropeninsular- a lo largo de todo el siglo estudiado; y es que, al asumir cargos importantes en la política nacional, estas personalidades andaluzas se integran en una comunidad de habla diferente, considerada, además, como más prestigiosa, al menos en lo que al español europeo peninsular se refiere. Todos estos fenómenos son puestos en relación con un conjunto de variables internas (lingüísticas) y externas (socioestilísticas), que permiten conocer las dimensiones sociolingüísticas de su funcionamiento y distribución en los políticos estudiados. El libro constituye así una aportación original, tanto para la comunidad científica como para el público general, sobre una cuestión apenas estudiada hasta la fecha This sociophonetic study investigates the language of Andalusian politicians in the Spanish government between 1923 and 2011.     The 25 contributions of this volume represent a selection from the more than 120 papers originally presented at the International Conference on "Multilingual Individuals and Multilingual Societies" (MIMS), held in Hamburg (October 2010) and organized by the Collaborative Research Center "Multilingualism" after twelve years of successful research. It presents a panorama of contemporary research in multilingualism covering three fields of investigation: (1) the simultaneous and successive acquisition of more than one language, including language attrition in multilingual settings, (2) historical aspects of multilingualism and variance, and (3) multilingual communication. The papers cover a vast variety of linguistic phenomena including morphology, syntax, segmental and prosodic phonology as well as discourse production and language use, taking both individual and societal aspects of multilingualism into account. The languages addressed include numerous Romance, Slavic and Germanic varieties as well as Welsh, Hungarian, Turkish, and several South African autochthonous languages
