Aktuelle Globalisierungs-, Internationalisierungs- und Migrationsprozesse scheinen diese Ansicht gleichzeitig neu zu akzentuieren und in Frage zu stellen. Die Beiträge des Bandes reflektieren die vielfältigen Dynamiken, die sich vor dem Hintergrund dieser Prozesse für den Zusammenhang von globalisierter Mehrsprachigkeit und Bildung ergeben. Die Autorinnen und Autoren diskutieren differenziert und kritisch aus bildungstheoretischer Perspektive Themen wie das Übersetzen, den Erwerb interkultureller Kompetenzen wie auch die Hegemonie der englischen Sprache.     We propose a flow-based criterion (intensity of use) and a stock-based criterion (stability of value) for choosing an anchor currency. This conceptual framework is applied to analyzing the RCEP region. According to the estimated TVP-VAR model, the influence of the US dollar in the region was weakened during the global financial crisis and the COVID pandemic, creating an opportunity for both Chinese Yuan and Japanese Yento compete for the anchor currency. In terms of the intensity criterion, China accounts for the largest share in the regional share, but Yen seems to havean upper hand in the stability criterion. The sophisticated cooperative-competitive relationship between China and Japan may prolong the birth of a new anchor currency. Before then, US dollar still holds the role and the RCEP regional trade is subject to excessive volatility.

    Mit der Fördermaßnahme zur "Internationalisierung von Spitzenclustern", die über die vergangenen 5 Jahre von Forschern des IfW Kiel wissenschaftlich begleitet wurde, rückt die Offenheit der Cluster für Impulse von außen in den Vordergrund. Ziel ist es, die Vorteile der räumlichen Nähe der Akteure, die ein Cluster bietet, mit den Vorteilen der internationalen F&E-Kooperation zu verbinden. Die Autoren zeigen, dass der Anteil der Auslandsaktivitäten, die im Zusammenhang mit der Cluster-Internationalisierung durchgeführt wurden, im Laufe der Fördermaßnahme deutlich gestiegen ist. Dabei sind Forschungseinrichtungen die Haupttreiber bei der internationalen Kontaktanbahnung und bei der Umsetzung der F&E-Projekte. Junge Unternehmen profitieren bei ihren Innovations- und Internationalisierungsaktivitäten stärker von den Beziehungen zu Akteuren aus dem eigenen Cluster als ältere Unternehmen. Insbesondere in wissensintensiven Branchen wie der Biotechnologie und Medizintechnik sind die regionalen Beziehungen im Cluster für die Anbahnung internationaler Aktivitäten besonders wichtig. Innovative Cluster können bei der Bewältigung zukünftiger technologischer Herausforderungen eine wichtige Rolle spielen, vor allem wenn eine breite internationale Vernetzung besteht. The funding measure "Internationalization of leading-edge clusters", which IfW researchers have accompanied scientifically, promotes international openness and international exchange of leading-edge clusters. Its aim is to combine advantages of spatial proximity with those of international R&D-cooperation. The authors show that the share of international activities that have been conducted as part of the cluster-internationalization has risen considerably. Research institutions are the main drivers when it comes to establishing international contacts and implementing R&D-projects. When it comes to innovation and international activities, young firms benefit more from cluster ties than older firms. Particularly in biotechnology and medical technology, regional ties within the cluster are especially important for initiating international activities. Innovative clusters can play a vital role in overcoming future technological challenges, especially in case of broad international linkages.

    This paper is based on the PhD thesis written by the author. Post-fordist production system has raised since 1970's. Main firms have divided production process into different stages and transferred some stages of the production to either other firms in the same factory or another firms in another spaces. Not only production process but also different parts of supply chain have been moved to different geographies. Apparel industry in Turkey has faced with similar development. Large apparel producers have moved some part of their production to the different locations in both Turkey and abroad. The aim of the paper is to investigate which parts of the supply chain of Turkish apparel industry have moved to different geographies and which of those have stayed where it is established. Moreover, it is searched the location and relocation criteria of these firms. A case study has conducted for the research. Eroglu Giyim, one of the biggest apparel supplier of Turkey and owner of very well-known brand of Colin's, and its supply chain have been investigated. Semi-structured deep interviews have been made with Eroglu Giyim, its subcontractors and its input suppliers. Supply and production maps of Eroglu Giyim for the year of 2002 and 2012 have been produced. 27 suppliers of total 35 suppliers have been interviewed to find out their location and re-location criteria. Eroglu Giyim has expanded its production network globally since 2003. The main reasons of this expanding are flexible and international production system, expectations and demands of their customers, legal and trade regulations as well as qualifications and strategies of the firm. Which products to be produced in which geography has been determined by customer demands and expectations. Those are related to some advantages of geography, for example, accessibility, human capital, innovation, proximity and face-to-face contact. Geography of the input supplier of Eroglu Giyim has been mainly shaped by strategies and qualifications of the firm and its suppliers. Legal regulations, which are made by the state in order to restrict the import, causes input to supply from generally Turkey. However, some input are purchased from the foreign international suppliers that make production in Turkey. All these local and international suppliers have mainly concentrated on Marmara Region where Istanbul in. It has observed that Turkish fabric companies have expanded their marketing networks globally for last 10 years. Most of them have a contact office in numerous countries in different continents, especially in Europe. Some of these companies have started to make production abroad. It has been seen obviously in the survey that Turkish fabric suppliers have become international companies for more than 10 years. Geographical proximity still is a very important location criteria for producer firms, suppliers and main customers. Istanbul presents some advantages like transportation, proximity to market, skilled labour force and face-to-face contact for the firms. Especially skilled labour force of Istanbul causes more complicated goods to produce in this city. So, Istanbul still is an important city for the apparel firms although its disadvantages like expensive production cost.

    This paper aims to present some reflections about the importance given to internationalization by Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In Brazil, although it is recognized as an important aspect for promoting growth and economic development, the internationalization of HE has been established in a disjointed and uneven way, and perhaps not as a strategic function established through public policies. As a former colony of Portugal, there was no attempt of establishing HE courses in Brazil until the 19th century, and institutional support given by the government began only in the 1930s. Initially there were isolated initiatives to the exchange of teachers, especially those trained in Europe. This process of internationalization, based on knowledge transfer from developed countries to Brazil, continued until 1960. From the 1960s on, Brazilian government began to establish bilateral educational, scientific and technological cooperation agreements with different countries. In the 1970s the emphasis is given to institutional programs to support graduate qualification abroad, promoting internationalization through exchange of students and development of joint research. Finally, after the 1990s, is given a strategic dimension to the internationalization of higher education, both by government and the own HEIs. In this context, there is a risk to happen a new "international division of labor" in HE terms - division of the world between countries who send their own students abroad (the so-called "passive" countries) and other that receive students and conduct the top research ("active" countries) in a new "geopolitics of knowledge". This paper presents then a case study about the internationalization process occurred in São Paulo State University (Unesp), in Brazil, evaluating both the strategic dimension (establishing agreements with foreigner HEIs and delimitation of internal rules to foster internationalization) and operational (human and material resources to perform it). Unesp is one of the leading universities in Brazil in undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as in research, consisting of 34 university units, scattered in 24 municipalities of São Paulo. It has solid international academic cooperation agreements with over 388 foreign institutions in 59 countries and is ranked among the 500 "best" universities in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities - ARWU and Times Higher Education World University Ranking. Collected data suggest that the internalization process that ocurred in Unesp reflects the general pattern observed in Brazil: the university lies in the South but looks to (and looks for) the North - to the developed countries.

Specifically, we analyze how the wage differential between men and women in Swedish firms is affected by the degree of gender inequality in the home country of foreign investors. The results suggest that gender norms of the home country matter-the gender wage gap in foreign-owned subsidiaries appears to increase with the degree of gender inequality prevailing in the investors' home market. Spotify, one of the new players in the music industry, has expanded its business activities and grown to become the leading streaming company worldwide. Today, Spotify offers a wide variety of audio products, such as podcasts and audiobooks, to subscribers, as well as significant service solutions for artists and music producers alike. This case study describes the development of the music industry before the advent of Spotify. After presenting Spotify’s origins and after discussing Spotify’s market entry into the most important music market in the world, namely, the US, the case study focuses on the company’s growth. We show that acquisitions of other companies enabled Spotify to develop its services further, as well as to diversify its product portfolio. We also shed light on Spotify’s internationalization as another important driver of firm growth. Over time, Spotify’s relationship with major labels has changed, and this case study reveals how Spotify has gained power while getting more independent from the major labels.

    "This book engages with the thorny question of global urban political agency. It critically assesses the now popular statement that in the context of paralysed and failing nation-state governments, cities can and will provide leadership in addressing global challenges. Cities can act politically on the global scale, but the analysis of global urban political agency needs to be firmly embedded in the field of urban studies. Collectively, the chapters in this volume contextualise urban agency in time and space and pluralise it by looking at how urban agency is nurtured through coalitions between a wide range of public and private actors. The authors develop and critically assess the conceptual underpinnings of the notion of global urban political agency from a variety of theoretical and disciplinary perspectives.     This report examines the development and composition of Finland's international trade in services compared to other countries. The findings reveal a substantial growth in Finland’s service exports, though at a slower pace than the EU average. Different countries have specialized in various types of services. Finland stands out for its prominent presence in IT services and software, while Sweden specializes in music services, and Denmark in maritime transport services. Both Finland and Denmark have focused their service exports in specific areas. In the future, diversifying the range of service exports is crucial.

    According to our results the imports of services to Finland have increased. The share of services in total imports in Finland is relatively large compared to many other EU countries. Companies often use imported services as their intermediates, with services accounting for nearly half of the total intermediate imports. It seems that offshoring of services is declining. While in the years 2015–2017 approximately 8.5 % of large and medium-sized service companies offshored their operations abroad, in 2018–2020 the share had decreased to 6.4 %.

    Does internationalization affect firm valuation? To answer this question, literature mainly considers firms from around the world internationalizing by issuing equity in the USA, whereas the current study focuses on US firms that internationalize by issuing debt in overseas markets. This paper provides evidence on theories of internationalization and capital structure, finding that overseas corporate debt offerings have a positive short-term effect on US firms' valuations. The effect varies in firm characteristics, timing, and the location of the issue. Additionally, firms with a strong need for external funds and growth prospects accelerate their offshore public debt market entry
