    The existence of the Icelandic Book of Joseph and Aseneth was first brought to scholarly attention in M.R. James's introduction to Batiffol's Latin edition of 1889. Since then commentators have continued to include the Icelandic tradition in lists of translated versions (often by the shelfmark provided by M.R. James, BL Add MS 11068). However, until now the Aseneth contained in BL Add MS 11068 has remained unedited. This article provides an annotated edition and translation which presents the Icelandic Aseneth in comparison with the exemplar from which it was translated, namely Hans Mogensen's Danish version of 1580. Most importantly, the Icelandic translator, Ami Halldôrsson (1630-1687), made an original contribution to the tradition, authoring a unique account of the death ofAseneth from grief.

Zu Ehren seines siebzigsten Geburtstags erscheint die vorliegende Festschrift, die sich aus vielfältigen Perspektiven der isländischen und deutschen Kultur annimmt. 28 Kolleginnen und Kollegen legen philologische, literaturwissenschaftliche, linguistische und geschichtswissenschaftliche Beiträge zum Kulturaustausch zwischen Island und Deutschland in seiner Einbettung in einen breiteren europäischen Kontext vor. Der Band bietet ein Panorama vom Mittelalter bis in die Gegenwart und reflektiert die Bandbreite der Forschungsschwerpunkte Hubert Seelows von der Altnordistik über die frühneuzeitliche isländische Kultur bis hin zu Übersetzungen und Studien der neueren und neuesten isländischen Literatur und Sprache. ; German-Icelandic relations – the title of this volume summarizes what characterizes Hubert Seelow's work, and also what has shaped his personal life. In honor of his seventieth birthday, this commemorative publication takes a look at Icelandic and German culture from a variety of perspectives. 28 colleagues present philological, literary, linguistic and historical contributions on the cultural exchange between Iceland and Germany, embedding it in a broader European context. Topics in this volume range from the Middle Ages to the present and reflect Hubert Seelow's broad research interests from Old Norse studies and early modern Icelandic culture over studies of more recent and modern Icelandic literature and language to literary translations.
