    The description and visualization of processes and underlying requirements are a core task in IT projects today. The translation of information between different forms of representation is used to include these efficiently in the different steps of a project, e.g., to describe the as-is and to-be states. However, the transformation of a process description into the visual representation of a process model is still a costly and complex task that often comes with an inevitable loss of information. One common challenge to be resolved during the process of modeling arises with the diversity of stakeholders involved. To improve the communication between stakeholders, different techniques of Natural Language Processing (NLP) are combined in this work to analyze the textual descriptions of Petri nets, in order to enable a transformation of texts into process models. The performed steps of analysis and transformation are means to ensure conformance between process models and their textual description. Die Beschreibung und Visualisierung von Prozessen und ihrer zugrundeliegenden Anforderungen sind heute eine der Kernaufgaben in IT-Projekten. Die Übersetzung von Informationen zwischen verschiedenen Darstellungsformen wird genutzt, um diese effizient in die verschiedenen Schritte eines Projekts einzubinden, beispielsweise um Ist- und Soll-Zustände zu beschreiben. Die Transformation einer textuellen Beschreibung in eine visuelle Darstellung eines Prozessmodells ist jedoch nach wie vor eine aufwendige und komplexe Aufgabe, die oft mit einem unvermeidlichen Informationsverlust einhergeht. Eine Herausforderung, die während des Modellierungsprozesses zu lösen ist, liegt unter anderem in der Vielfalt der beteiligten Stakeholder begründet. Um die Kommunikation zwischen Stakeholdern mit verschiedenen Hintergründen zu verbessern, werden in dieser Arbeit verschiedene Techniken der natürlichen Sprachverarbeitung kombiniert. Textuelle Beschreibungen von Petri-Netzen werden analysieren, um eine Transformation der Texte in Prozessmodelle zu ermöglichen. Die durchgeführten Schritte der Analyse und Transformation sind Mittel zur Sicherstellung der Konformität zwischen Prozessmodellen und ihren textuellen Beschreibungen.

    Despite being widely accepted and applied, maturity models in Information Systems (IS) have been criticized for the lack of theoretical grounding, methodological rigor, empirical validations, and ignorance of multiple and non-linear paths to maturity. This PhD thesis focuses on addressing these criticisms by incorporating recent developments in configuration theory, in particular application of set-theoretic approaches. The aim is to show the potential of employing a set-theoretic approach for maturity model research and empirically demonstrating equifinal paths to maturity. Specifically, this thesis employs Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) to identify maturity stage boundaries as necessary conditions and Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) to arrive at multiple configurations that can be equally effective in progressing to higher maturity. Furthermore, this thesis prescribes methodological guidelines consisting of detailed procedures to systematically apply set theoretic approaches for maturity model research and provides demonstrations of it application on three datasets. The thesis is a collection of six research papers that are written in a sequential manner. The first paper reviews literature on maturity models in IS, identifies research gaps and proposes use of configurational theory to address these challenges. The second paper conceptualizes stage boundaries as necessary conditions and demonstrates the application of Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) on a social media maturity dataset. Building on the second paper, the third paper conceptualises maturity stage characteristics in terms of configurations using Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). Overall, the third demonstrates empirically the existence of multiple paths to maturity and provides IS researchers with a six-step procedure and detailed guidelines to systematically apply set theroretic approaches to maturity models (STAMM). The fourth paper then uses the social media maturity dataset, computes maturity scores using different quantitative methods prescribed in maturity models literature and proposes recommendations for maturity model designers. The fifth and sixth papers are demonstrations of applicability of STAMM on different datasets. The fifth replicates and extends a prior research study on ITIL maturity and compares the findings with the results using STAMM. Finally, the sixth paper argues for a multi-method approach by combining STAMM and PLS-SEM in understanding the conditions associated with IT service management (ITSM) maturity. This PhD thesis contributes to the academic discussion on how maturity occurs through configurations. The key contribution is STAMM, a set-theoretic procedure model and method, which employs FsQCA and NCA to empirically demonstrate multiple paths to maturity (or equifinality). It also contributes to set-theoretic approaches, in particular QCA and NCA. Finally, this thesis contributes to multimethod approach by harmoniously integrating PLS-SEM, QCA and NCA, thus adding to the limited body of multi-method literature.

    In this research report, we present a new version of IT Modeling Language (ITML). It is integrated with the family of Domain-Specific Modeling Languages (DSMLs) that are part of Multi-Perspective Enterprise Modeling (MEMO). The design of the language followed a proven method. It provides for analysing requirements based on the analysis of possible use scenarios. The ITML was specified with the meta modeling language MEMO MML. Due to the considerable size of the meta model, its presentation is split into several partial meta models, which are described at a level of detail that is required for the implementation of the language within a modeling tool. The presentation of the meta model is supplemented by discussions of design conflicts and related decisions. In addition to the abstract syntax and semantics, which are represented by the meta model, we also propose a concrete syntax, which was designed with the support of a graphic designer. Finally, we also provide a short discussion of principal limitations of conventional meta modeling as well as an outlook on our future research.

    This paper studies the economics behind the investment in information technologies (IT) by U.S. commercial banks in the past decade. By linking banks' IT spending to their lending technologies, we analyze the distinctive natures of banks' dealings with information across various lending activities. Investment in communication IT is shown to be associated more with improving banks' ability of soft information production and transmission, while investment in software IT helps enhance banks' hard information processing capacity. We exploit polices that affect geographic regions differentially to show causally that banks respond to an increased demand for small business credit (mortgage refinance) by increasing their spending on communication (software) IT spending. We also find that the entry of fintech induces commercial banks to increase their investment in IT--more so in the software IT category

    As more and more activities in the economy become digitized, analytics and data-driven decision-making (DDD) are becoming increasingly important. The adoption of analytics and DDD has been slower in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) compared to large firms, and reliable causal estimates of the impacts of analytics tools for small businesses have been lacking. We derive experiment-based estimates of the effect of an analytics tool on SME outcomes, analyzing the randomized introduction of eBay's Seller Hub (SH), a data-rich seller dashboard. We find that SH adoption is associated with increased DDD, and that access to SH increases e-retailers' revenues by 3.6% on average, as more items are transacted and service quality increases, without increases in average prices. Our results suggest that analytics and DDD help SMEs establish a competitive advantage. Managerial practices play an important role in reaping the benefits from the analytics dashboard, as over a third of the SH impact is driven by active performance monitoring. This suggests that digital platforms could increase revenues by supporting the adoption of analytics tools by SMEs. Furthermore, policies supporting small businesses' transition to the data era could address gaps in analytics and data-driven decision-making (DDD) by providing access to tools such as SH, as well as offering appropriate managerial training

    This paper presents the services trade restrictiveness indices (STRIs) for computer services. The STRIs are composite indices taking values between zero and one, zero representing an open market and one a market completely closed to foreign services providers. The indices are calculated for 40 countries, the 34 OECD members and Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa. The STRIs capture de jure restrictions. This report presents the first vintage of indicators for computer services and captures regulations in force in 2013. The scores range between 0.08 and 0.34, with a sample average of 0.18. Explicit barriers to trade in computer services are rare, but the sector is subject to a number of economy-wide restrictions facing all sectors. Among these, restrictions on movement of people (mode 4 in GATS terminology) make the largest contribution to the index value, followed by regulatory transparency issues. The paper presents the list of measures included in the indices, the scoring and weighting system for calculating the indices and an analysis of the results.

    Auch in Forschungseinrichtungen gewinnt die Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie im Wertschöpfungsprozess zunehmend an Bedeutung. Dies bedingt eine qualitativ hochwertige Entwicklung bedarfsgerechter IT-Leistungen für alle Geschäftsprozesse in diesen Einrichtungen. Der Wandel zu einer ganzheitlichen serviceorientierten IT-Leistungserstellung und -produktion kann durch ein geeignetes IT-Dienstleistungsmanagement unterstützt werden. Das working paper beschreibt auf der Basis des im Rahmen des Forschungsprojektes "praxisorientiertes IT-Dienstleistungsmanagement für kleine IT-Organisationen in Forschungseinrichtungen" entwickelten Modells "proITS" deren erste beispielhafte Anwendung. Die Erarbeitung eines Ansatzes zur Systematisierung und Kategorisierung der Wertschöpfungsstrukturen und Geschäftsprozesse einer Forschungseinrichtung (Struktur-Domäne) bietet als standardisierbares Anforderungsmuster die Grundlagen zur Gestaltung (das Design und die konkrete Erstellung) von IT-Services und ITLeistungen (IT-Service.Domäne). Somit ist eine wesentliche und notwendige Bedingung für ein funktioniertes IT-Dienstleistungsmanagement erfüllt. Abschließend geht der Beitrag auf die Diskussion erster Wechselwirkungen zwischen den beiden Domänen ein und beschreibt weitere notwendige Überlegungen und Untersuchungen als Ausblick. Also for research institutions information technology is becoming increasingly important for value creation and competition. This situation requires the supply of high-quality IT services for business processes in these institutions. The alteration to an integrated service oriented framework for design and production of a customer oriented set of IT services can only driven by IT Service Management. This approach was developed within the research project "Praxisorientiertes IT-Dienstleistungs-management für kleine IT-Organisationen von Forschungseinrichtungen". On the basis of this model, developed in the area of the research project mentioned above, this working paper describes an example of the first utilzation. A standardised pattern of requirements beginning from a premise of catogorisation and systemisation of structured, business processes of research institutes (in the structural domain) offers the basis for creation (design and realization) of IT services and IT management (in the IT service domain). Therefore, an essential requirement for a working IT service management has been fullfilled. Finally, the working paper dicuses the interactions between the two areas and describes further essential theorization and research.

    Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien haben die Produktion in Unternehmen grundlegend verändert. IT-basierte Dienstleistungen stellen ein zentrales Bindeglied zwischen vielen anderen Unternehmensprozessen dar und leisten einen wichtigen Beitrag zur betrieblichen und gesamtwirtschaftlichen Produktivität. Welche Konzepte gibt es zur Messung und Steuerung dieser Produktivität und wie werden sie in der Praxis eingesetzt? Wie können sie weiterentwickelt werden? Diese Fragen standen im Mittelpunkt des Forschungsprojektes "Produktivität IT-basierter Dienstleistungen", das das Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung (ZEW), Pierre Audoin Consultants GmbH (PAC) und die Universität Mannheim gemeinsam in den Jahren 2010 bis 2014 durchgeführt haben. Das Projekt wurde vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) im Rahmen des Programms "Innovationen mit Dienstleistungen" gefördert. Ziel des Projektes war es, die Messung, die Bestimmungsfaktoren und die Steuerung der Produktivität IT-basierter Dienstleistungen aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln zu untersuchen. Diese Blickwinkel lassen sich anhand der Frage erläutern, welche gesellschaftlichen Akteure ein Interesse haben, Produktivität IT-basierter Dienstleistungen zu messen.
